What a beautiful concert! Price is in resplendent voice! The Meyerbeer is stunning, but then, so is everything else!! Oh. If there was a video of this event!!!! Thank you for posting!
Another beautiful concert from the Beloved and Celebrated American Soprano Leontyne Price. I wish more of these were on DVD. Surely some of these concerts were televised and preserved. Here are the Arias Price gifts us on this gorgeous concert: Dove Sono (Le Nozze di Figaro) Sur mes genoux (L’africaine) Depuis le jour (Louise) Io son umile ancella (Adriana Lecou) Give me my Robe (Antony Cleopatra) Summertime (Porgy and Bess) Chi il bel sogno (La Rondine) Vissi d’arte (Tosca)

Thank you for this! Great sound just as it was broadcast. I love it. I have a concert from February 1968 in Paris with the same orchestra but I do not recall Rescigno being the conductor. I think mine says Carlo Rizzi. I am not sure, as I cannot find it to verify. This concert has some of the same pieces but she sounds different. My recording has the Ernani aria and "Senza mamma" but lacks "Depuis le jour" and the instrumental pieces played here. Strangely enough, she sounds different here in the "Dove sono" but the orchestra makes the same mistakes in the same places as it does on my recording. Do you know if she gave two different concerts in Paris at this time under different conductors? This is a fabulous document of a legendary soprano at her zenith. Again, my thanks to you for sharing . Love!!!
@@saol67 Thanks for the information and the correction. The conductor was not Carlo Rizzi. She did a similar concert on 1-27-1968 in Munich and the conductor then was Carlo Franci. I confused the two discs as the pieces she performs are mostly the same. After digging out my CD just now I see that the dates on my disc and your upload are the same and the conductor is listed as Nicolas "Rizchin" which is maybe the Gallic spelling of "Rescigno?" Still, the radio rebroadcast does not include the Ernani aria and "Senza mamma" in which she gives unbelievably electrifying performances of. 🙂
Archive
Price had plenty of chest voice but it’s a vocal choice sometimes not too engage it depending on the music. Most of these arias sit high and don’t really call for a heavy chest voice like the Verismo rep. Her voice was not small at all and filled any hall without problems. She was an intelligent singer that’s why she had such longevity!!

Astonishing. The most beautiful voice I have ever heard in the opera house.
I agree. The most beautiful voice I have ever heard period! To have heard her sound live is to have heard the tones of the Divine!

Lovely
Justly admired for her fantastic high notes, but it's her f in the passaggio that drives me wild!
And F-sharp!

This concert was broadcasted this summer by France Musiques, from their archives or INA's. Carlo Rizzi was born in 1960, it cannot be him.

Nicolas Rizchin is the conductor. Arias from Ernani and Suor angelica are missing

I feel like you have no idea what you just said and just wanted to sound smart
@@Reikyellah "Wanted to sound smart"????? LOL! But they only succeeded in sounding stupid, retarded, deaf and dumb and really ignorant.
Leontyne Price, vibrato lento???????? Oh, sure 🙄
I’m so sorry, Sierra is good, but she can’t touch the singing of Price.
