I bought the books after seeing the series. I wanted to go to Corfu too. I decided it was to hard and that I would be wanting the Durrell family to be there and of course they would not. Your show is great, I am especially loving this visit to Cofu and all your ideas and tips. Who knows might still get there who knows... ~Mary Ann
Thank you so much for the travel vlog it brought back so many lovely memories of when I was there many moons ago. I really believe a producer out there should offer you a travel programme on national tv as your vlogs are informative, beautifully shot and relaxing. It’s not surprising you make friends so easily as you have a lovely personality. Lots of love xxx
Merlin van Es It was a Marella cruise, booked through TUI. Itinerary was Aegean shores I think. There were quite a few other solos on board to meet up with if I fancied some company. I did a couple of organised trips and spent them with other solos
The Durrells in Corfu quickly became one of our favorite TV series during lockdown. We really enjoyed it, and were also so inspired by the island and how lovely it looked. Awesome for you that you went and visited! Fun vlog!
I thoroughly recommend grabbing a local bus, wherever you go. I used to do it all the time years ago, when it was just me and my 2 kids. You can go for miles, get on and off when you want to and it's definitely loads cheaper! Just memorise your surroundings when you first get on the bus, so you know where to get off on the way back. Great video Catherine, I'm glad you had a lovely time. 💕
When I went to Hawaii years ago we took the city bus to an open air shopping mall in Honolulu. The bus ride was one of the more interesting activities we did there. The bus travelled through some of the more gritty areas of the city. I believe it was a Sunday morning and we saw things that are not pictured in any tourist brochures. I preferred to talk with people who actually lived on Oahu. I befriended a young man who said he lived with his mother and siblings. His mother tended their garden where she grew some cannabis plants. When it was harvested and dried he would go to the tourist beaches and sell the cannabis to help support the family. (His father had abandoned them and paid no family support.) He was a very nice young man, perhaps 16 at the time. We bonded over pop music and I invited him to our condo for a cold drink and to meet my mother who I was traveling with. It was a simple friendship. I was in my early twenties at the time and I really enjoyed meeting people. I still do enjoy meeting people although I don’t get out nearly as much as I used to.
I know exactly how you feel about dreary winter months. I grew up in the north of the US where winters are long, cold and gray. After college I moved to Texas, and, aside from the crazy politics here, I love the weather. I don't even mind the hot summers if I can be near a pool. But it made me realize I need sunshine! Glad you got a little break. Corfu looks amazing!
I went to northern Ireland for a weekend from mainland, I was nervous but i thoroughly enjoyed it, I did go with my husband and I don’t think I would be confident enough to go on my own. So glad you had a good time and relaxed x
oh my I finished all the seasons of Durrell's and I cried on the last episode :) . You inspire me to do solo traveling. I will definitely visit Corfu, on my own. Thank to you!
So happy you got away for a holiday Catherine. Corfu is beautiful. I have never solo travelled, been with my partner 23yrs. It wouldn’t be fair to leave him home haha. Looked like you had a lovely time 😊💖
My parents bough a house in Greece where they plan to retire. I still haven’t visited it because of all the restrictions 🥲 and how confusing it all was. We are thinking about booking flights for January to go visit and your vlog gave me confidence it might not be as hard as we are fearing ❤️ In really glad to see world reopening. Thank you, have a great Sunday x
Hi Kathrine!!! I am from Greece and I am glad that you visit Corfu and show to people the great views of Greek island. I have to tell you that people from Corfu have the rumor for being "crazy" and sing all the time and dance traditional dances, and there are so lovely! When they talk you think they sing!! there are so lovely persons!! I enjoy your video....and for the masks, I have to say that outside is not obligatory to wear a mask, but you have to wear a mask on all the public transpotations and all the closed areas. That is for the time being of course!!!
Oh this brought back some wonderful memories for me! Our first trip abroad with 2 kids (ages 10 & 12) was way back in 1987! We stayed in Paleokastrista and did that same trip with spectacular bay views...except we walked all way up through the olive groves! We wondered whether the kids would manage, but they were/are sturdy, and it took us about 30/40 minutes...and we treated them to huge ice creams at the cafe at the top. You are so right, the views are out of this world, and the walk down (by road this time) was just as lovely. So glad you had a wonderful time, it looks just as it did way back then - it's a beautiful island. Our second trip there was without kiddos, and we cycled all over the place, and saw some of what you showed here on the east of the island. Happy days and memories...and I've been to other Greek islands too, all different and all gorgeous, but Corfu is special. You are right about the boat trips sometimes being long...we did the trip to Paxos, and was too long for the kids. Even I ended up feeling queasy!! But the water there is so beautiful. Just too long of a boat ride. Thank you for the video...made my evening :-)
I have never traveled.now my husband's passed I probably won't but ohhh how beautiful this place is.so relaxing to watch and I can dream can't I.thank you for this. I needed a pick me up
Hi Catherine thanks for posting this charming blog. I was last in Corfu in 1997!! I, like you, wanted to visit but it was after reading the durrell books "my family and other animals" as a girl. It did not disappoint and your vlog brought back many memories. Like you I have done lots of solo travel, I last went to "Death in paradise" island Guadeloupe on my own in 2016 - and survived lol - there is something about travelling alone which kind of forces you out of your comfort zone, and like you I don't want to limit myself just because I live alone. I love your channel - so warming and comforting. Strangely I also have a white female cat called Lolly looks like your blondie. I also have her 3 boy siblings - don't think I would trust myself going to a shelter lol - that episode was adorable though. Keep doing what you are doing - you are definitely a super star 🌟 your friends are lucky to have you xxx
I have been to Corfu lovely. Not solo but I have done holidays on my own. With a group but on my own. Went to Nepal, Italy, Cyprus and lanzarote and Greek island of Ithaca all on my lonesome but thoroughly enjoyed them x
Hi, I’m new to your Chanel and am loving it👍. I have to say Corfu is one of my favourite Greek Islands, I stayed at the Kontokali Bay Resort which is next door to where The Durrells was filmed. One day we were out walking and saw all the lorry’s bringing the set and costumes, didn’t realise what they were filming until we got home….I was glued to the tv when The Durrells started. Your video brought back so many happy memories of a beautiful Island, thank you and I glad you had a good holiday.
Oh wow! This has always been on my bucket list !! Want to go sooooo bad!! What a remarkable life view...."I've yet to", instead of "I can't"....going to try to adopt that one!!
So glad you got to travel again, thanks for taking us all along! I love your bright spirit about traveling solo travel. I did a lot of solo travel when I was your age, your videos are encouraging me to go do it again.
How wonderful for you to travel to another beautiful country! I bet it was nice to see a different atmosphere and ocean and take the time to relax and explore. I would love to travel abroad more now. Before I met my husband (our 28th anniversary was yesterday the 25th), I traveled to meet friends in other states and in Canada. It wasn’t really solo but I just was solo on the plane rides to the places I met my friends. I met them in California while they were tourists and I became friends with them, it’s fun to meet people from a different city or country. When I would visit them, they let me stay at their home, so that saved a lot of money from staying at a hotel. They took me to so many beautiful and fun places. It was also a great experience during my 20s, before cellphones, I had to call from a pay phone to tell my mom I was safe! Lol, now being married, my husband loves to travel too. We’re going on a long road trip to a few states then next year go visit our niece in England who moved there several years ago. Even though I’m married, I would like to go on a solo vacation, Paris is my goal but I think bringing my husband with me would be more romantic, maybe I’ll just go to Las Vegas by myself! It’s only a 5 hour drive! 🙄 Lol… Thank you for sharing! I hope you’re able to go on more solo holidays, as you call it. So much to see on this Earth of ours. 💖
Amazing. You gave me the confidence to do a solo trip for 4 nights to Majorca I too went all inclusive to make it easier for me. The one thing I couldn't get my head around was people did ask me why I was in my own 🤷 I was so glad I did it as it was just a few months before covid began
Aw so happy to hear that Julie! I found this time when people asked was I on my own they were like " fair play". It has become more common now to solo travel. I joke sometimes and say "it was too expensive to bring all my boyfriends with me" lol
@@micheleduggan8837 definitely make sure you do it's so nice just putting yourself first and going to where you want to rather than having to think of anyone else for a short period of time xx
Oh my gosh!!!! You are traveling again! Woo hoo 😄💛💛💛👏👏👏 Your travel videos relax me and help me fall sleep. I've watched them over and over again. Thanks Catherine 💛💛 God bless you 🙏🙏 ENJOY YOUR TRAVELS SWEETS. As far as the vax, masks, etc... it's all choice. All is well 😆💛💛💛💛
I don't know what Durrells house or tv show but that is pretty and thank you for sharing your vacation with us. Very beautiful and I am glad you were able to get away after this Pandemic we all need a breath of relaxation.
Thank you for taking us with you. I started watching the Durrells in the summer of 2019 and thought that Corfu was going to be my holiday destination in 2020 🙈 Still haven’t traveled anywhere so I really enjoyed this video.
Fantastic travel blog, I've done many solo holidays, but never Corfu. It looks just gorgeous! The Durrells is a fabulous series - would be worth going to bump into that Spiro 😆
I’m glad that you had a nice time. I’m in the U.S. and I’m flying from Pennsylvania to Las Vegas next month. Although it’s still within the US, I’ll be staying at the beautiful Venetian hotel (AKA Little Italy) I booked myself a suite and can’t wait to go.
I love your vlogs at home, but this was a pleasant surprise Catherine! I’m eager to travel to Europe so thank you for sharing so I can live vicariously as you said through your adventures!
So glad you were able to get away. The place you stayed seemed perfect for someone travelling solo, since you were able to chat with other guests. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Catherine for taking us with you.so glad your starting your travel vlogs again i realy enjoy them.i absolutly adore Greece my Daughter and myself travelled everywhere on the bus while there tho somtimes we walked and its amazing the places you come across when venturing out on foot. Glad you were able to go away just hope everyone who had to forgo a holiday during covid can get away soon.take care.🏝🏖
Love living vicariously through you on your travels. I would love to travel but maybe I can do some local travels in the USA. But that doesn't stop me from enjoying seeing all God's beauty through other people's travels 🤗
I too, watched the Durells in lock down. Dreamy, now you teleported yourself there. Fantastic idea. I hope you thoroughly enjoyed it. That was a stunning idea, that's the life....you go Girlie!!!
Good for you,, glad you had a lovely trip. I’ve booked a flight to back home in England in December for my nephews wedding and see my lovely Mum,(from Ohio) I have really missed your longer chats and travel vlogs ❤️😊
I think you're amazing! I would never travel solo I am far too anxious. I love your positive upbeat personality your friends an family are lucky to have you around. Would love to be like you.
@@DaintyDiaries at least you got one, none of the cruise lines have a single supplement they make you pay double. I have been a solo traveler for over 33 years. I love to travel, there is still so much to see.
So excited Catherine... You are finally getting to travel again😊. So HAPPY for you🤗. I love your travel vlogs as much as your home vlogs.. Anything you do is wonderful 🤗. I hope you have a fabulous holiday.. OK.. Now I will watch your vlog😂 So agree.. I live in NW Germany and it is grey for weeks at a time.. It is really depressing (continental weather gets stuck for ages). I prefer coastal living where you get everything multiple times a day.. But at least you see the sun more. I used to love traveling alone and off season (before kids and school holidays😭). I backpacking around Australia and New Zealand alone. On my New Zealand trip I met loads of great backpackers.. Nearly all from Irland. You meet so many great people when traveling alone. I always take vacation days when traveling for work eg Caribbean, Russia, China.. I have never had any problems when traveling alone. I went diving in Australia on the Great Barrier Reef. And there was an English guy who couldn't swim. The dive company we went out with, took him out.. He had 2 buddies.. One on each arm.. And he was so happy and couldn't stop smiling when he came back from his dive on the reef 🤗. He said as soon as he goes home he will learn to swim. I am sure he did to. I got bitten by a spider in Australia that spread and swelled my leg from my bum to my knee.. Two guys gave me cream at the YH and then the chemist gave me stuff the next day. People are always so helpful. I always do old school and print out everything. The battery can run out on a phone, especially if on longer travel days.
Even though I am in the US, I LOVED listening to your adventure! It’s refreshing to see you getting back into your “groove” again. Hope your trip was amazing!!!
Your holiday looked amazing I love Greece, and the people are so friendly. I stayed in Dassia. we met some people who we may friends with love the boat trips. glad you got your trip before Autumn. xxx
Faux Grandma here, I loved the Durrells, I have watched it 3 times and the movie that tells where all the people are in there daily lives after the movie. Went to Corfu in 2016 but only had a short time to look around,, a I was on a Viking Cruise which was fantastic but 7 countries in 14 days is a whirlwind trip. I hope to got somewhere out of the USA this year but haven't decided where. You are so brave, full of sunshine and the cutest ever, love f. grandma xoxoxo
Great video! What I will say though is that as someone who works in Dublin Airport the single biggest issue we all have is staff shortages. Pretty much every sector, from search unit to retail to cleaning is massively short staffed and can get nobody to apply for their positions.... probably because no one wants a job where they have to start at 3 in the morning! The day that all the people missed their flights was very much a once off though and heads did roll. Get their early, have a little understanding and I promise everyone is trying their best to help all the passengers!
Yes, very valid point, I have heard about the shortages. Hopefully with the PUP stopping, more people will apply for positions and will ease the stress on you guys! Great to see a buzz back in the airport
Oh my goodness! I fell in love with The Durrells during lockdown and promised myself to head to Corfu one day. It’s a bit of a trek from here in Australia, but I’ll get there one day. Watching your vlog has made me want to go there even more!
Gosh you are really brave/cool to go on your own. I have really turned into an anxious person. There are days that I don't even want to go the the store to get what I need. I don't know I just get ridiculous and after seeing this it made me realize life is so short and we need to enjoy ourselves. My beautiful grandson lives in Australia and we still have not been able to visit him. He is just growing so so fast. I pray they allow us to start visiting again. Thanks for this beautiful video. A Greek boy would be very very lucky to have you!!!!
I watch all of your videos and never comment, but the mom in me is coming out now. Please let us know when you get home, and that you made it safely. Greece and Egypt are on my bucket list. As is Ireland, since 3/4 of my family is from there. We didn't get to go to the beach this summer, but we are next year. 💟
Just want to say I went on a solo trip 2 years ago.... inspired by you. I'm married with 3 children☺️. My family thought I was mad but it's one of the best experiences I've had. This probably sounds silly but it was such a sense of achievement. Would definitely recommend a solo trip.
What month of the year did you travel to Corfu. Myself and my wife usually travel in July every two years and stay at my in law's house in South Corfu. My wife is Greek and myself Ecuadorian. In the past I traveled from NYC Dublin Corfu with a 8 hour layover in Dublin. I found the people in Dublin to be very friendly and kind. Ireland is indeed a beautiful country next time myself and my wife will stay a good 4 days before flying to Corfu. Nice video
Oh wow yes I watched The Durrells and loved it, so down to earth, I didnt want it to end. Place looks beautiful, good on ya going on your own having a little adventure bless x. Have a wonderful time, thanking you for all your lovely videos 👍🏽😘☀️🌻🐝xx
I travelled on my own with my 3 kids a few years ago. Stayed all inclusive as I always do as it’s sooooooo much cheaper and the kids can have whatever they want. As a single parent, it’s hard when they want drinks and ice cream all time but with all inclusive, you’re covered. Also the entertainment is great and free :) they make friends, you make friends. You sip cocktails and spend a lot less!! Love it. I was in Corfu many years ago but it was a couples holiday so didn’t see all the beautiful things you did, as you’re pleasing others lol. Fair play to you 😘from one Dub to another 🥰
Catherine, I love your videos. I am 61 next month and I am still yet to learn to swim too. Never mind that I was in the Navy for a few years. I joined the Navy to travel, not to swim, lol! ❤
Aww, so wonderful that you got to make that trip. My husband absolutely loves Greece and we plan to visit together one day, but we’re making (and working) our way slowly through all the States now. Thank you for sharing this stunning video! ❤️

Thankyou for sharing your holiday . Just beautiful. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it Steph x
So glad you can have your solo trip. Everything looks wonderful. Living through you!🌏🌍🌎🏖🏝
Girl, what a beautiful trip! I'm so glad that you enjoy doing things and be adventuresome. I love seeing your journeys.
I love the show The Durrells of Corfu! Thanks for sharing this beautiful island!
I don't know what Durrells house or tv show but that is pretty and thank you for sharing your vacation with us. Very beautiful and I am glad you were able to get away after this Pandemic we all need a breath of relaxation.
Thank you for taking us with you.
I started watching the Durrells in the summer of 2019 and thought that Corfu was going to be my holiday destination in 2020 🙈
Still haven’t traveled anywhere so I really enjoyed this video.
Awww, well I can happily report the island is as beautiful on person as the show ❤️
Glad you visited my country!!!! You greek follower, Maria!
Aw, what a beautiful country you live in x
Fantastic travel blog, I've done many solo holidays, but never Corfu. It looks just gorgeous! The Durrells is a fabulous series - would be worth going to bump into that Spiro 😆
ha ha, Spiro is a cutie!
I enjoy all your content and I find your travel videos delightful. I love the cute places you're drawn to.
Oh I loved The Durrells of Corfu. I was so bummed when the series ended. Ok gotta watch this vlog now 🙂❤️
Iv got a few episodes left, I’m savouring them 🤣🤣🤣
Love living vicariously through you on your travels. I would love to travel but maybe I can do some local travels in the USA. But that doesn't stop me from enjoying seeing all God's beauty through other people's travels 🤗
Awww thanks Denise, I’m planning another trip soon 🥰
@@DaintyDiaries Yay! That would be a nice break from seeing snow for me 😉
I too, watched the Durells in lock down.
Oh my, thank you so much for allowing us to tag along!!! Beautiful place!!!
Such a beautiful place. That water is amazing.
Oh my goodness what an amazing Sunday treat. I love your travel vlogs. Hope the break did you lots of good. Xxx
Awww happy to hear you enjoy them ✈️ I do love a ramble
I think you're amazing! I would never travel solo I am far too anxious. I love your positive upbeat personality your friends an family are lucky to have you around. Would love to be like you.
Amazin... looks stunnin!! A single supplement angers me when bookin any holiday! 💕
Aw I know, so frustrating isn’t it for us solos ❤️
@@DaintyDiaries at least you got one, none of the cruise lines have a single supplement they make you pay double. I have been a solo traveler for over 33 years. I love to travel, there is still so much to see.
What a lovely surprise for a Tuesday , an added bonus video . Hope you had a lovely time , you seemed like you did . Thank you for sharing x
Have an amazing time - lovely to see beautiful Corfu. (loved The Durrells series as well) 😘
So excited Catherine... You are finally getting to travel again😊. So HAPPY for you🤗. I love your travel vlogs as much as your home vlogs.. Anything you do is wonderful 🤗.
I hope you have a fabulous holiday..
OK.. Now I will watch your vlog😂
So agree..
Χαίρομαι που πέρασες ωραία στην Κέρκυρα... Ζω απέναντι από το νησί στην Ήπειρο. Gott bless you! Come again next year please!!!!
Even though I am in the US, I LOVED listening to your adventure! It’s refreshing to see you getting back into your “groove” again. Hope your trip was amazing!!!
Your holiday looked amazing I love Greece, and the people are so friendly. I stayed in Dassia. we met some people who we may friends with love the boat trips. glad you got your trip before Autumn. xxx
Thank you Catherine for your share it look's beautiful i'm glad you had a nice change of island ..x
Glad you took the opportunity to "get out of town." Looks beautiful there.
Oh yes, from where you are that is a trek, but think of the adventure you could have x
What a dream trip! I love your videos & love that you took us along. ❤
Glad you enjoyed it ❤️❤️ thanks for watching
Thanks for presenting our island so well 👍🌞
I just booked a cruise for November. It will be my first time solo cruising! so looking forward to it!
Looks beautiful love the Durrells that's brilliant you found the house
Aw I love hearing that Elaine.
Nice video
Hi Carlos, this was September time when I flew and the weather was still really nice x
I have a few episodes left, I am spacing them out lol x
@@DaintyDiaries Such a good series, if only life was so simple 💜👍🏽
I travelled on my own with my 3 kids a few years ago. Stayed all inclusive as I always do as it’s sooooooo much cheaper and the kids can have whatever they want. As a single parent, it’s hard when they want drinks and ice cream all time but with all inclusive, you’re covered. Also the entertainment is great and free :) they make friends, you make friends. You sip cocktails and spend a lot less!! Love it. I was in Corfu many years ago but it was a couples holiday so didn’t see all the beautiful things you did, as you’re pleasing others lol. Fair play to you 😘from one Dub to another 🥰
So so beautiful place thank you for sharing such an amazing places ..👌🌻🙋🏻♀️

Delighted for you Catherine to finally get a holiday.Corfu looks beautiful.so lovely to see people travelling.💚 yay to the Greek boys 😂
Catherine, I love your videos. I am 61 next month and I am still yet to learn to swim too. Never mind that I was in the Navy for a few years. I joined the Navy to travel, not to swim, lol! ❤
Heading to Rhodes from Dublin in a few weeks with my friend so good to hear what it’s like in Greece! Looks fab……can’t wait to get away!🌞
Love the travel vlogs tks
Yay ❤️ glad ya like them ✈️
Aww, so wonderful that you got to make that trip. My husband absolutely loves Greece and we plan to visit together one day, but we’re making (and working) our way slowly through all the States now. Thank you for sharing this stunning video! ❤️
So nice that you got to go away…restores the soul. I live in US and I have travelled only within the US. Hope to head to Europe next year.
