Well, my friend, I predicted this months ago as well as Zia Cooke and Laeticia Amihere. This means that of the five SC players drafted in 2023, three in the first round, four have been waved as well as Destanni Henderson who was drafted in 2022. I am a huge Dawn Staley and gamecocks fan, but while her system works well at the college level, recent history shows that it is not conducive to longevity in the WNBA which is an offensive driven League. It appears that by sacrificing their offensive game and splitting minutes, certain skills that players need to thrive as a pro have been under developed. Brea Beal is a prime example. Coming out of high school, she averaged 24.9 points and 4.5 assists. Saxton was no slouch either averaging 24.3 points. Dawn Staley said herself that she didn't do Beal proper justice. I think players are picking up on this which is why other than homegrown talent, SC has recently missed out on some big names. †
Yea I started watching during Boston’s junior year. I noticed despite the talent that their offense wasn’t very dynamic. I noticed a trend of players on SC not taking chances to create opportunities on offense.

The freshies. AB, Zia, Victoria, Amihere. Highly recruited prospects. But like you said the WNBA is another monster. I was shocked Brea couldn’t make a team i thought her size and defense would keep on a roster.

@Buk718 It's not that they arent talented or cant play, it's the lack of teams. The NBA was able to expand and give more players opportunities because of more roster spots. The 3rd leading scorer in wbb history was cut her rookie year. You can't tell me she can't play. She just needs time and opportunity to grow.

Saxton appears to be a greet person and showed positive emotional support for the Fever. Quita, be honest. Victoria was signed to appease Fever's first pick in 23 Boston. Put another way, she is AB's comfort dog. AB felt anxious about living in Indy. To make her comfortable, Indy signed her good friend VS. It worked. AB had a great rockie year. She was never signed to be part of the Fever game. I wish her all the luck in the world. She has improved her game a lot in 24 with off season play, but is presently not at WNBA level.
Wait what? If they are going to appease and coddle their top picks, who did they pick to babysit CC... Wheeler? lol. How about an enforcer for CC in her first year? The Fever seemed to be so intimidated by CC's attackers; hate to see that. Its like they were witnesses to the muggings and just watched.
@mjl I heard the same thing that Saxton was there only for Boston. And that Wheeler and Wallace was at Indy for Christy Sides to make her feel comfortable
@mjl.9-19 CC is extremely comfortable in her own skin. And she is from the Midwest. Indiana was the perfect team for her. In terms of AB and VS, picks were made prior to playing game one. It had nothing to do with what happened on the court. Many WNBA players didn't want to play at Indianapolis (perhaps culture). Wheeler got a Max contract with Fever because she was the rare player who would agree to move to Indianapolis.
Why they got rid of Celeste Taylor instead of any number of other Fever players last year still boggles the mind. Then again, Lin Dunn and Christy Sides should unboggle it.
They got 132k left in cap space to figure out what to do with the remaining roster spots. Bonner got 200k so if they want to make some more cap space, then they need to move Kristy Wallace's contract and then free up like another 15k or so by moving her and signing a league minimum. That Wallace contract killed their other moves.

Both Howard and Bonner are far more versatile and talented and have played years of championship level basketball in the WNBA. They are all in the same ballpark age-wise and Bonner has been a veritable iron horse over her career.
Are the Fever making room for another frontcourt rotation player from free agency by waiving Saxton. A solid 4th frontcourt player is probably needed. Nobody knows if it is just one year and done for Bonner. She might join her girlfriend Alyssa Thomas on the Mercury next year as she mentioned the possibility. All free agents signed this year are all free agents next year and some more possible crazy good musical chairs next year if things do not work out this year for some!
For a team like the Fever, the future is now! Saxton will always be a fringe player who has to sweat out final cuts. There will be 36 more spots in the league soon and she might claim one of them but will never be more than the 10,11,12th player on the bench.
They will cut Jaelyn Brown as well which will give them 198,698 cap space to get both a PG and PF from either their draft picks and or from Europe. Maybe they will get lucky and the Valkyries will pick up Samuelson's contract for a draft pick package.
Every team including the sky have tough decisions. Shy can only have a 12 person roster. So as far as sky drafting 3 and 10 can both make 12 man roster with the current players and free agent players only 12 someone gotta go. 🤷🤷🤷
That's why the WNBA and NBA are not as exciting. All you have is run and gun, just a bunch of shooters. They will both fail if the don't start finding value in defense. The NBA glory days had just as much defense as offense. Dennis Rodman and his type made basketball fun. I only watched the WNBA because of the South Carolina and other college girls.
Wym. The wnba has a ton of defense , they allow two hand checking still..Bigs still dominate the wnba. NBA has changed the rules so it’s all 3 pointers
@ I understand what you are saying, but with all the calls, down low, its hard to play defense, everytime someone drives the lane, they get a foul call, Aja Wilson does a pretty good job though, Reese tries, but gets called to easy for fouls, so it takes her out of her game, i believe the refs are bias against her, where Steward is given the benefit of the doubt 90% of the time, as we saw in that Championship finale against Minn Lynx.
What is Lexie hill’s status? Where she at? Is she going back to the fever? Cause if she is a free agent the sky need to get her. Hull and angel have great chemistry together in unrivaled
Hull is in the last year of her rookie contract. Sky would need to trade assets to get her, and I don't know they have anything that Indy would want to trade for. She seems redundant in Indy with the signing of Cunningham so she may well be traded. Not likely that trade is with the Sky though.
@ yea the sky don’t have anything to offer other than the 3 pick and I love Lexie but i wouldn’t be willing to give it up for her. But dang maybe next year 🤔
Does SC recruiting motto says we're developing players for the WNBA? How many SC players are dominant in the WNBA...1 = Aja, right? SC has a former PG HOF Head Coach...how many former SC PG's have played 10yrs in the WNBA League?
@amcra1 Allisha played one year at SC. If she would have done 4 at SC she probably would have fallen through the cracks too. Her being at NC for two years was actually a good thing for her.
Hey Yeah We're Seeing 👀 All South Carolina Players Being WAVED" What Else Is New Hopefully There's TEAMS" Coming Innnn, Stay Woke PEOPLE Enjoy Peace 🏀✌🏿
Not a surprise. From what one TH-camr said, Coach Staley doesn’t develop her players. Most either ride the bench or don’t play at all. Everyone isn’t A’ja Wilson. Grace Berger is a disgrace. From what I hear, Grace used to hand Caitlyn Clark that a.. at Indiana against Iowa. College is different than the pros. A lot of college players are not successful in the WNBA. There is new women’s league forming, like Upshot. Maybe Victoria Saxton will have a chance then.
I didn’t make the claim. Someone else did. Besides, why do you think Coach Staley has said, she’s preparing them for the WNBA & that the players should get used to being on the bench. The TH-camr said she doesn’t develop her players, not me, but it must be some truth to it, because most ride the bench or not play at all: Destini Henderson, Brea Beal, now: V. Saxton, Zia Cooke, Latricia A. All South Carolina players. Most players in the W are Connecticut or Notre Dame. Why do you think that is?
@ there isn’t much truth it. Players getting waived isn’t an indicator of their talent or her ability to develop. It also doesn’t mean it’s the end because for sure some of these players will be on a roster this season and y’all will be looking dumb like always
Sophie is not as great as she should be with her being a vet she coulda stayed in Phoenix I’ll never forget how her and the mercury disrespected Tina Charles and made her leave the team
Bonner is still averaging great numbers and Cunningham will be great coming off the bench along with hull ..saxton I don’t even get what she doing in the wnba… her college stats weren’t even good.. that sc tax paid wonders
Definitely an improvement. Better defense, plus 2 experienced players who averaged more than 15pts last season and a better bench with shooters (Hull, Brown and Cunningham). Let's see what the new coach will provide. But if it gels well all together, the Fever gonna be a problem
Look at how quickly the Fever gelled behind Clark last season. These are talented, experienced veterans who have seen a lot and had to adapt. I bet they adapt faster than Loyd does in Las Vegas. See Alaina Smith and Courtney Williams added to the Lynx last season.
Gamecock fan here. Saxton has never been one of my favorite players. Teams would bully up on Boston down low because we had a starting 4 that was an offensive liability. During the 2021 Final Four against Stanford, she had 0 points, 0 rebounds in our one point loss. She came back for another season in 2023 and that automatically eliminated SC from signing Angel Reese.

Nobody knows if it is just one year and done for Bonner. She might join her girlfriend Alyssa Thomas on the Mercury next year as she mentioned the possibility. All free agents signed this year are all free agents next year and some more possible crazy good musical chairs next year if things do not work out this year for some!
Young players being cut means they are still not developing players for the future. Soo dumb.
🤔
For a team like the Fever, the future is now! Saxton will always be a fringe player who has to sweat out final cuts. There will be 36 more spots in the league soon and she might claim one of them but will never be more than the 10,11,12th player on the bench.
Noooooo ❤
Finally she's gone , Fever should get rid off walence as well
Go Gamecocks!
Where they gonna go?
@@TaiyouArtthey could try and sign with another team or go overseas and make more money over there
Who was knocking at the door at the end of the video?
Nosey!
If you was a fan of Rodman, then you have to be a fan of Angel Reese, very very similar type of players
Wym. The wnba has a ton of defense , they allow two hand checking still..Bigs still dominate the wnba. NBA has changed the rules so it’s all 3 pointers
Name one defensive minded role player. WNBA is pick n roll, kick out for 3 ball. Not entertaining@@TaiyouArt
She's staying with the Fever,
🤷🏿♂️
@@lisareynolds9799 why is no one mention her when talking about their roster like she didn’t show out last season
You forgot Aliyah and Allisha, dip. Why are y’all so obsessed with what SC is doing?
@amcra1 Allisha played one year at SC.
If she would have done 4 at SC she probably would have fallen through the cracks too.
Her being at NC for two years was actually a good thing for her.
@@Anzomax2 “fallen through the cracks too?” Yeah y’all looking for anything to try to humble the Black woman. It’s pathetic
Dang Victaria Zia and Amihere
Saxton sucked, Cooke was too streaky, and Amihere was turnover prone.
Fever only want All Stars.... Lexie Hull gotta be scared... will she even get minutes if she doesn't get traded... which is also highly possible
She's Reese's best friend so maybe she can go to the sky
They are not trading Lexie this year
@@karencarlisle2887what would the Sky trade to get Lexie?
@@karencarlisle2887 bahahaha!!! She's not friends with Reese..She's not going anywhere.
If she stays, she's definitely getting minutes. Looks like fever aren't looking for bench warmers.
Trying to throw some sly shade at South Carolina players ehh.
Not Quita fault that Dawn Staley isn’t developing her players for the pro game
@@TaiyouArt now when her players are on opening day rosters what will you say then?
Still curious about how the exactly the Fever are going to get a backup PG for CC cause right now they don’t have one…
@dewuster8885 CC never leaves the game, and that is why I wanted wheeler to leave.
Don’t need one. Clark plays full minutes and Kelsey or Sophie can bring up the ball.
Yep Sophie will be bench player for CC and KM I just hope the new players know this is CC show just come along for the ride it will be fun
😊
Hey Yeah We're Seeing 👀 All South Carolina Players Being WAVED" What Else Is New Hopefully There's TEAMS" Coming Innnn, Stay Woke PEOPLE Enjoy Peace 🏀✌🏿
They want CC to win a championship So Bad it’s not about Boston it’s about CC ! Hope I am wrong 😑 check me if I am ! Just my opinion
Took them long enough. She was always a nothing
You must live a sad life
She never got to play tbh with you
she must’ve learned it from yo mama
End of the day, Saxton got a full year of WNBA salary to do nothing and Bree Beal didn't get paid at all. That is crazy to me. Buh bye.
Saxton got paid two years.
Maybe Victoria Saxton will have a chance then.
why get on here and lie?
🫤
Why hasn't Stewie signed yet? Is she holding out for a package deal with her and Chennedy Carter ? 😊
I don't understand how these moves improve the fever. Not being an ageist, but Bonner is as old as Lebron and Cunningham averages 8 pts a game.
It's a temporary fix for a championship bid. It will be interesting to see how it works.
@ptahwill6383 fair enough, but do you see it more of a push than an improvement?
Push. Lin Dunn had said last season they would going on vets for playoffs@wbazile
It can’t be that hard to make it in the WNBA, Angel Reese is still in the league and she’s awful.
Angel will always be famous bc of people like you. Hating pays her bills too!
Could you make it in the wnba? Or if you’re a guy, the nba? Didn’t think so. Angel lives rent free in that head
Dang, Zia Cook parted ways with the Townsville Fire after just a couple few games and no waived by LA Sparks?
What’s going on with Zia?
Too much movement. It will fail......
Cope
Look at how quickly the Fever gelled behind Clark last season. These are talented, experienced veterans who have seen a lot and had to adapt. I bet they adapt faster than Loyd does in Las Vegas. See Alaina Smith and Courtney Williams added to the Lynx last season.
@@MargueriteFaheythey did not gel quickly
Gamecock fan here. Saxton has never been one of my favorite players. Teams would bully up on Boston down low because we had a starting 4 that was an offensive liability. During the 2021 Final Four against Stanford, she had 0 points, 0 rebounds in our one point loss. She came back for another season in 2023 and that automatically eliminated SC from signing Angel Reese.
true .Would have beat Iowa in that FF.
@ Our weak links on that team in 2023 was Fletcher at pg and Saxton at pf. They were always the first two starters subbed out.
