When you first join a sorority, you are considered a “Little”, and every little gets assigned a “Big”. Basically, a “Big” is just like a big sister who is there for you, and always has your back! If you ever need help with anything, are struggling with a class, or just need someone to talk to, you can always count on your Big!
When you first join the sorority, however, you have no idea who your Big is going to be! A super fun week of activities takes place (before the Grand Reveal) where your Big will likely send you cute little daily gifts to welcome you into the sorority. As you are receiving the gifts, you still don’t know who is sending them to you!!

Those baskets seem so expensive!!
I'm in a sorority and they really aren't that bad price-wise!! most of the shirts are the shirts the bigs have collected over their years, as most sororities at big universities give between six to twelve each year, which are included in your dues. also, a lot of the gifts are handmade, such as the canvas paintings, or food, which isn't super expensive to make. also, a lot of sororities have swaps before big-little, where other sisters can swap their unwanted merch for things they'd like to give their little. but some bigs do go all-out, buying brand new things and giving luxury items but that gets super expensive fast!!
They are!!! I made one for my little and it was $350 total (and that was less than normal)

Enjoy and cherish your time with your Bigs! I cherish all the memories I had with my Littles and G-Littles and would do anything to go back and experience them again. It is such a special bond that only sorority girls understand. ❤️
same here, i never thought i'd miss my Big, Twin, Little, and GLittle as much as i do now that i've graduated. i even have a GGLittle now that i haven't met yet :( but i miss them so much.
Ahh big little is probably the best part of being in a sorority because you grow so close to your fam! My big gave me ZERO clues so it was so fun to find out I got exactly who I wanted! Loved your reveal and all the thought your bigs put into your baskets ❤️💛

@@ejiwumiafowobi I mean, you're not wrong but there are scholarship opportunities at most schools through Panhellenic, your chapter, and usually nationally. It also depends on what school you go to. where I go, our dues hover around $400 per semester, your first semester is $800 because of the pin and retreat, but at the bigger schools, dues can be up to $1800 per semester. it all depends on what school you go to, what sorority you get into, and how many greek activities your school provides. and it's good to remember that while it is a time and financial commitment, sorority dues also are all-emcompasing, meaning they include all the events they put on every year, the shirts, leadership and travel opportunities.

I'm a sister of Alpha Xi Delta at my college and I definitely enjoy it! Sororities are great experiences, however I must admit that they are hard to manage when it comes balancing it with also having a job and schoolwork as well. The dues are pretty tough if you have to pay for them yourself, but I wouldn't trade the friendships that I cherish so much!

it's crazy how different each college/university does greek life, because it is currently big/little week for my sorority (phi sigma sigma) and I go to a smaller school (SUNY Brockport), but the message is still there and I am so excited to find out who my big is in 3 days :) (one of the differences is we are actually not allowed to wear letters or anything until initiation in april, so no tshirts til then!

I loved being in a sorority! I was in Delta Zeta and have no regrets of joining and being apart of a huge family with connections that will last me for years. Oh, and I am from the U.S. But more so, so many sororities value their studies and education and graduate with 4.0 GPAs. Mostly all sororities, you have to have a certain GPA to stay in the sorority, or you'll be on academic probation or eventually kicked out. So, for those sprinkle of comments that suggest sororities don't focus on studies/education, they do.

I can assure you that sororities in real life are nothing like how they are in the movies, they give us bad stigma!! My sorority sisters are some of the most kind, unique and empowering women I've ever met!

We had a “family” system in my basketball team this year and it was so nice. All the home games the two freshman would give their JV and varsity sisters a basket of favorite candy and Gatorade. Then the JV and Varsity sisters would give their freshman sisters a basket as well. I love the family system!

There's nothing quite like big-little week! It was my favorite week of my freshman year. I went to TCU and was a Gamma Phi, and it was one of the best and most unique experiences of my life. I hope you both enjoy this time, and enjoy your new families! 💕💕

Honestly you should go to a different school than BYU, because learning about other cultures and seeing diversity will help you when you join the workforce in the future. In the real world you won’t have a bubble of just mormons to be around and it’ll be good to have other connections and know how to work with other people.
@@kattttt9585 Thanks for the input! I have been surrounded my whole life with other cultures and religions. In fact, I go to a school with only two members of my church, one of whom is my little sister. I think it's really interesting to learn about all of my friend's different cultures and religions. I have one friend who's a strong atheist, and another who's Muslim. One of the reasons I want to go to school at BYU because I'd be surrounded by people who share my same beliefs, but that's not the only reason. They have great sports programs and offer good Child Development and phycology courses. I also grew up right near BYU before I moved across the country, and I think it'd be fun to go to school where I spent my childhood.
