Nothing like watching something so far removed from your experiences that you sit in awe and realize you have a lot to learn about other nations traditions. As American, this looks very "off", but it is obvious there is a ton of pride being shown here. Much respect to all these troops.
The drill is a combination of traditional British (used by all the ex-empire nations) and cultural traditions. The stomping and wide eyed glaring are traditional methods of ritualistic intomidation similar to the Maori sticking thier tongue out during a haka. Indian martial traditions go back thousands of years.

The same can be said of the Pakistanis. The exaggerated movements, cadences, and commands are obviously the result of decades of one-upmanship at Wagah.
