With winds like that you have to worry about getting hit by the neighbors cow at a hundred miles per hour. Flying debris is a major concern.
I feel like "choose to stay" or "choose not to evacuate" is strongly dismissing that 63% of americans simply cannot afford the cost of a last minute evacuation.

I'm a little disgusted by the fact that there are several people who have been saying that they have no ability to evacuate and, are being left behind. Why has there been no organization of busses and other forms of transit available for these people to utilize during this evacuation?
If there is, why isn't it being broadcast?
The Governor has held news briefings continuously since Milton became a threat to FL providing several options for people to evacuate. He has instructed FL hotels that will be no price gouging, and free transportation has been provided to residents to take them to evacuation shelters. A phone call to Uber would give them a free ride to safe shelter paid for by the State. If people have the capacity to comment or watch TH-cam, use the internet, watch social media, the news, this information has been broadcast repeatedly.

There are so many new people who have never experienced a hurricane.
If you live in FL, hurricane preparedness information is provided by the State and local agencies to all residents at the outset of hurricane season. There are always those who even if provided with that information, still choose to disregard it. I lived there for almost 10 years, and you learn very quickly that you must be prepared. They are one natural disaster that gives you plenty of warning it's coming.

@@kathleenhazy6126you could come to the west coast. We get “king tides” I’m just on the other side of the dunes and they have never reached my home. However most the year the beach is sideways wind, rain and 50-60 degrees 😬 I’m in Washington on the coast. We did have our 2 days this summer we made over 70 degrees. I even got to take my sweatshirt off! I can’t tell you how glad I will be when I get back to the mountains where I was raised. I’ll take threat of eruption over hurricanes and rainy beaches all day long.
I used to live in Ft. Myers. It was great, but that was in 2009.
I will never expect them to put America first.

I do not approve of the "your going to die" or the "not survivable " rhetoric. People will weather the storm, and the next time no one will listen to the warnings. In the midwest, we get tornado warnings at the first sign of rain, and no one pays any attention to them anymore. It is "the boy that cried wolf" syndrome. The drama does more harm than good. Just be honest and accurate. We don't need the drama.

I don't know about the jails, but the hospitals will be staffed and secured because as soon as emergency personnel can travel, there will be injured people needing medical care. Tampa General Hospital has submarine doors to protect incursion from at least 20 feet of flood waters.

Anything over a Cat 3 in Florida equals catastrophic damage I’ve lived here my entire life …..this reminds me of Andrew which was devastating no power for 3months Carlie was a Cat 3 no power for a month…..those storms came in on the flas east coast this stolen is comin on the West coast the absolute worst side for a storm to come we are prepared but still very very worried about the impact
