  • / @nickfoleyuk What a year its been. I wanted to listen to as many Hammond clones as I could this year, its been a busy one but I have a lot crossed off my bucket list so far.
    With huge thanks two ‪@FairDealMusicVideos‬ and ‪@bonnersmusic‬ and all at #HammondUK here is a compilation of all the Organ clones I have tested this year with little talking and more back to back comparing.
    The audio and video quality has improved during the year but you will get the idea for it as I go through 6 or 7 different machines comparing and contrasting!

    the Mojo 61 has some really great electric piano sounds and (might have to download the update) a good acoustic piano. There's not a ton of features on the board but I replaced my Electro with it and had no complaints.

      Ooh …. No Hammond clone? Crumar was amazing but I hear they can be unreliable (?).
      I’m not a great fan but if HZ was excluded it would be Nord. With an organ grinder pedal and a Leslie 145

    Somehow ended up being the owner of the Crumar Mojo Classic and the Hammond SKX Pro. The latter has to make room for the non-organ sections, so lacks a few knobs up front like cross-talk, that the Mojo Classic has. By connecting a computer to the Crumar, it gets kinda endless which settings you'd like, such as different organs and Leslie settings. The SKX Pro is similar, except by digging into the depths of the on-board LED, like leakage per drawbar. So my view is all are valid in one way or another and/or can often be adjusted to sound more like a different one. The action is different per clone, like the Mojo Classic is pure organ and the SKX Pro is a hybrid stage keyboard having to bend a hair for piano, etc., and pulls off the hybrid great. Although I will dig in soon and permanently adjust its Y piano settings a notch. These two boards and my Hydrasynth Deluxe are run through a Radial mixer into the German designed LD Maui 28 G3, chosen by my Grammy winning chief engineer friend / boss at the big studio; this LD, besides build quality, for its specific lack of on-board mixer: less to impact the audio signal. I got a Neo Ventilator II along with the Mojo Classic, but think the Crumar's Leslie is really good and allocated the Neo to my eBass pedal rack, where it will stay. The SKX Pro might like to have it, but I've grown addicted to the unique option for the eBass. The Hammond is brand new, so as of Dec 2023, none of my orchestral funk features it yet. Why the Hammond addition? Because as multi-instrumentalist, I've gravitated to being on eBass and having a keyboard or two in front of me. Wanted a hybrid when the stage is small or the gig isn't about my songs which usually have 3 keyboardists, one of whom on the Crumar.

      @ImprovUnedited 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I put a halfmoon on the Mojo Classic, despite its lovely blinking soft yellow glow button and the side wings on the expression pedal. Only the half moon was crystal clear about which setting; the other two options sometimes confusing my ear during gigs or rehearsals during that brief moment the rotary is getting over to the other speed setting, making me wonder if the button or side switch was pressed well enough, yet for being under the gun playing, no time to focus that split second further to be sure about it. The SKX Pro buttons are obvious as they are, but I'm really liking the new halfmoon on the Crumar and might want to add one to the Hammond. Or down the road add the modern "Flat Leslie" itself to the LD column array set up, since the SKX Pro has provision to send the organ only out to a rotary and all else in its hybrid brain to a non-rotary. I'd rather have cash for groceries at some point. Sigh lol

    Well, the C3 breathes, lives, and has such a "character" - all clones have a hard time to imitate this, and they only succeed more or less. I'm missing the HX3 engine from Keyboartpartner here (resp. MagOrgan and Uhl) that might be at least as good as the Hammond clones. It would be awesome if you could organize one of them in order to compare it with your "wooden lady".

    Probably the best sounding of all the clones is the xk5 but if Hammond can’t get the sound of their old organs then who can. All of the clones need a Leslie speaker, all of the Leslie Fx boxes I’ve heard don’t cut the mustard. And what happens if your modern clone wheel goes wrong? I personally repaired a dead L100 15 mins before a concert for a local organ society.

    You can call it "organic" or what have you, but i really think the real Hammond sounds like musty old wood, dust, and 96 greasy tonewheels spitting out the sounds of hell itself. That will never be emulated. Fook the rest of them....oh yeah, i got the Mojo 😂
