    It's funny.
Not too long ago everybody wanted to go digital so they could stop hauling around their outboard gear (which sometimes was ridiculously large and complicated).
And now we are back where we started:
Big racks filled to the brim with outboard gear. Especially the younger generations are really into outboard gear.
I know some oldtimers that hold on to their outboard gear for whatever reason that are now making a killing as prices for quality outboard gear are on the up & up.
Same goes for stagesnakes up to 12 channels. After getting them for almost free, there has been a steady rise over the past year for these snakes in the second hand market.

My only question is with the quality of all those Neve components and their cost, why are we using a M32R?

The irony is not lost on me that the compressor costs more than the console. My LM case costs almost as much as the console too! The M32 sounds good and has enough features for the bands I’m mixing. The problem is that there is a huge delta in cost for the next step up in consoles. For a size comparison, a similar DLive rig with a c1500 and 32ch stage box is $20k. For another comparison: I think the cheaper Midas sounds better than the Yamaha QL/CL1, though I haven’t used the DM series yet. Yamaha is also in the $20k range for the surface and stage box.

@@billylaguardia The guy I work with has used them all, Midas Pro2, Midas M32, X32, DM7, and now the Allen and Heath SQ series. He's pretty sold on the SQ series and honestly so am I, A&H has been absolutely killing it lately.
I personally have a X32 rack and I'm not very interested in getting anything Midas or Behringer for mixers again. Seems like Behringer at least has a lot of power issues that affect the Ethernet/AES connections across their products. I'd like to get the S32 stage box for my X32 and just run a Cat5 so I don't ever have to worry about where my rack is but, there's enough reviews stating the same problem with the power/heat affecting the AES connections and you end up losing control of them remotely a couple hours in.
Same thing happens with my X32 rack, after a few hours of being on my laptop continuously loses connection with it, plugged in on a 3 foot ethernet cable directly to it, not even a network between the two :/

@ this comment is very timely sir! I had a brand new M32R have a bad AES card which was fine during production rehearsals and decided not work on day 1 of a 2 week tour. On Saturday’s gig, the stage box connection just “blipped” for a nano second during the set. I wonder if that was a heat issue?? I’ve had zero issues with the m32c, just the R.

Been loving the mikrotik hex routers, they make a spf version and just copper one, poe powerable and can pass through, highly capable it devices and saves a plug. Remote wifi ap from the rack and its an easy setup

Hey, I'm curious! What are your reasons for disliking flip cases? Im actually interested in one because I then wouldn't need another case or a table to set my mixer on.

How would you use a drive rack with the M32c.

    • @billylaguardia

L/R outputs of the M32C into the inputs of the DriveRack. The DR would handle your multiple sends like L/R, Sub, Front Fill etc..

Hit the subscribe button at “I’ve decided that I just can’t possibly continue mixing shows on my m32 rig without outboard gear - I know, I know - it’s impossible” Lol. I’ve been using my XR18 and Antelope DSP as outboard for a soundcraft si performer. 😔 How am I supposed to mix if I don’t have the constant fear that my inconsistent and unreliable attempts to imitate analog hardware will fail when I need them most?

🤣🤣🤣 we are audio engineers. If we can’t overcomplicate…why even bother.

Are you going to show us how to physically connect outboard gear to the M32R, and then show us exactly how to program the M32R to use the outboard gear? Because I'm 4 minutes in and so far you're just selling stuff.
