This show was broadcast in 104.1 WBCN on 1/1/94. This was a lot of peoples’ first live Phish tape back then. I listened religiously for a couple years. Have most of it memorized. The Harry Hood is an all timer as well and Peaches En Regalia is a personal favorite.
This is the best Trey improv I've ever heard. He never seems to be searching for the right note or phrase as he does so often while jamming. And the band is right there for every phrase build up. I've learned to play much of this solo and I can tell you it has some very hard to play sections even when you know what the notes are. Amazing to me he improvised this solo. Highest level improv.
When I first started seeing phish, one of the things that stood out to me was the way they sort of work the room with the changes and band communication. I've seen a lot of rock and roll music and this is where they stand apart. Most improv in music serves as a reprieve or segue, but here it's the main course. This is what transcendent means. The sum of their skills took them to a place most people would assume is impossible. It's like watching a car keep accelerating until it leaves the ground and takes flight, and you stand back in awe.
I dont even want to say "Treys solo" because everyone was on fire the entire song but that is my all time favorite Trey rip on the guitar. So much fucking emotion!! I cry 70% of the time, every time when I hear it.
I think it may be my favorite Trey solo too, the build up is amazing - I get goosebumps every time I listen and I've been listening to that same solo for almost 20 years now.
@@JoeBamba6 apologies but Trey does much better with this version than the Clifford Ball version. CB is of course very good but this one is super crazy special
This entire evening was special. I went to every NYE show from 93 - 00. This show is only surpassed by 00 due to a 7 and a half hour set. I mean, midnight to sunrise, how do you top that 🤷?
I 100% agree. lots of others will say 10/31/94 which is obviously amazing but IMO this takes the cake, there is something about every single note that holds so much emotion it's unbelievable. I've put this on so many times when going through some tough shit and every time something about this version gives me the feeling that everything will be ok...and better. this is probably my favorite trey tone as well. if i had a time machine to choose one concert to go back to, this would be it.
I missed this show when I flew to Athens, Greece for a term abroad during my Junior year in college on 12/30/93. I should have flown out of Logan Airport to Europe on 1/1/94, but I didn't. Best Reba ever? It's either this or 10/31/94...
This show was was freakin' unreal. The stage was a fishtank, The Giant fish, seen above, were swimming around the tank. At Midnight, the giant clam openened, and out came the band, wearing scuba gear.., Word to the wise, when someone wearing a cape offers you a some of his beer before a phish show, SAY NO! I made that mistake and ingested about 1500 mikes. I had tenth row floor seats. I (just barely) made it through the night. The guy could have killed or mentally crippled someone for life.
This is absolutely beautiful Reba. Sound quality is great for era. I still think the end solo on 2/20/93 is the best. Sound is not greatest but Trey is just in another zone. Hits notes I have never heard again..very emotional.
I keep trying and trying to listen to phish and I haven't got it yet. I'm more of a dead head than anything. Maybe one day. If anyone has any good recommendations that would be awesome.
They are very different worlds. Phish is more of an arena-rock prog band where the Dead were a lilting country-rock kinda thing. There are crossover points, but they're very different. You might like songs like "Ocelot" and "Alaska". but for some jams, check these out: Twist - 6/14/00, Ghost 11/17/97, After Midnight Reprise 12/31/99, Runaway Jim 7/3/00, Harry Hood 12/30/95, Mike's Song 12/31/98
Geez, no offense but if you don't get it after listening to about the 7 min mark onward then I would give up. Dead and Phish are completely different bands but Dead were great songwriters and polished performers. Phish are zany, nerdy free spirits in Zappa vein and capable of absolutely stunning beauty and synergy. Harry Hood from same show 12/31/93 is also great example.
@@parismilton6286 I went to every NYE show from 93 - 00. 95 is great, but this is a better show. Big Cypress was a monumental experience, but musically this show is just tops.
Don Shelden not if youre talking trey note selection. Overall as a band they have had better jams, but imho this is the best solo trey has ever played. As a guitarist for 15 years and a drummer for 25, this improv is simply unmatched.
This, to me, is the greatest moment in live Phish history.

cool, i didnt know this was s WBCN broadcast. the sound quality is so great. i agree the Peaches is fantastic! As is this Reba
God I love to see people talking about this as their fav Trey solo of all time… cuz it sure as shit is mine ❤❤❤
Crazy to listen to this now in 2020. I was at this show as a sophomore in highschool. I had no idea this would be the best Reba ever.
you lucky dog. That's how it usually happens when musicians are in their early prime. You don't realize it until years later.

agreed. the solo is unbelieveably good. one of the best solos i've ever heard by anyone. its so emotional too.

Check out Niagara Falls '95. Ultra-Tempo!
Probably the class Reba of all time. Thanks
There’s actually nothing better than a 93 Reba
Just a 95 reba
95 Reba
Specifically, 8/16/93 is the best of them all, though this one, 2/20 and 3/22 are all amazing.
My single favorite Phish recording. Absolute magic from start to finish.
Me too
What a show! Sat next to Tom Marshall. Just awesome.
I just spent two hours hunting for this reba, knowing i’d identify it within a few seconds of listening to the jam, and finally reeled in the sucker
I love this rebaa! I hope they play 12/31/23!
I spent 20 years looking for this one knowing I would recognize it immediately. Here it is
Probably one of the best jams ever 🎶☮️🎵 Absolutely amazing! 10:24 magic 👏 ✨️

Listen to Clifford ball version

plus the harry hood this show
A waterfall of gold, we need to broadcast this into space so the aliens don't kill us
Best live version of Reba
this is my favorite reba ever. listen to any other reba and tell me I'm wrong.
I can't tell you what your favorite is, but mine would be 10/31/94, 8/16/93, and 12/31/95. Honorable mention 7/6/94 and this.
James Winters is a Choad
10/31/94 Easily
5/16/95

This tune is Phish's equivalent to Zappa's Inca Roads. Conceptually so similar but so amazingly different. My favorite Phish tune
One of my first thoughts about Phish when i saw them at arrowhead for the first time was Zappa meets Santana.
Been scouring the net for this version of Reba for awhile now, thank you so much for posting!
Love it when TH-cam throws 30 seconds of ads in the middle of a jam peak.
I love reliving this show Thank You
Best Phish show of my career. A lot of people claim it's 12/31/95. This was a WAY better show!
My first NYE with phish.
How I wish there was footage of this show besides DWD
this is probably my favorite phish jam ever. I converted it from tape myself years ago... glad to have found it here too.
This show was the greatest Harry Hood ever.
this show might be the best of all time the playing from trey is top notch trey

This is probably #2 for me with 10/31/94 still being the GOAT
The YEM from this show is just as astounding...
Island tour reba is amazing too. 4/3/98
For sure.. fastest Reba too
Best Reba, there is no debate.
This is why we’re here

We were in the 5th row. My buddy got hit in head, with the rock the dude of life, throw out to us. The guys behide us got it. Great show.
Thank You! One of my favorite Reba's!!!!!
"Maybe" the best ever...obviously open for discussion

Amazing!
totally epic night!!!
8:39 is a great moment in the jam
Thank you Mr. Minor
every reba starts getting good around 7 mins
Sometimes you just gotta get rewarded by listening to the whole thing 😂

❤❤
The Mississippi delta is sweet as well prior to reba
There was a commercial. During Reba. At the good part.
haha this is why premium is so worth it :)
Lol that's why I'm constantly getting the premium free trial lol keep making new emails and adding a dead card then cancelling lol
My warm blanket
Oh....how I miss the seaside...
6:21 ❤️💫✨🕺🏼
🎉
I'm goin in right now to hear this version for the first time...tell u what I think in few
Homeboy never responded! I'll take it as a "yeah, that was the best Reba ever..."
9:23 is where it goes off
Complete machine gun attack...
10:20 dat release
10/31/94 kills this :)
+daveskiau I looked into this, and... you are correct :)
+Jonathon Roiko 12/31/95 blows that away ;)
I used to think that.... but once I heard this, I lost my mind... This is insanely good
Both beautiful but I think this one packs emotional punch missing from 10/31, like the 10:25 wailing. Tearful.
Yea I keep looking with hopes for a better Reba than 10/31/94 and nothing does it
Plenty plenty of better Rebas
Anything from 94 and 95 actually

100% this is my Trey moment... Just a beautifully executed improvisational solo. Perfect buildup, perfect climax, just gorgeous.
