Fellow introvert here, so need my alone space to charge my battery and I also need a little messiness😅. It’s fun to watch you getting to know and honour your needs. Self care is so important ❤

Hi Helen, your morning and evening walks are actually good for the brain. Neuroscience says walking 45 minutes three times a week gives more oxygen in the brain which gives you relaxation. You seems to be doing a lot of HIIT by going to gym, Maybe you need to look at your routine by incorporating more brain-oxygen inducing moves like walking or stretching then less high intensity. Also, you might want to put lemon water bottle next to your working table as this will induce you to go to thé bathroom and clean your liver and kidney. These habit will help you protect your brain which is your best asset in your life especially as business woman and content creator. Hope this helps 😃

This video really sings to me. For what it's worth, I used to be so shy until my early-to-mid 20s. One day, I realized that I am very kind and sensitive to other people, but not myself. I accepted being shy. Suddenly, I wasn't shy any longer! It's a good thing, too, because later I was able to change careers and to become my own advocate for health (I'd had bad experiences with not so great doctors) and for my elderly mother. I also read later that being shy is a form of being self-centered because you think too much about what others think about you. Now my attitude is: What others think about me is none of my business.

Your videos are usually really calming, but something about these "midnight journaling" videos reminds me of a podcast😅 its really enjoyable to watch and listen to! ~ I am the same when it comes to having an 'organized-mess' workspace! For me, a certain amount of mess makes me feel more sane compared to a completely clean area, but I reach a limit when I have to clean up😂 Hope you have a good week ahead, Helen❤

i’m autistic and i very much relate to this. being socially awkward and planning conversations in my head, and when i finally get the courage to talk and someone goes “off script”, i have no idea what to say. also, the rigidity with planning and when something doesn’t go according to the plan i made in my head, it disrupts my entire day and i have an emotional outburst. the peeing thing is so real as well, it’s like if i go to the toilet i’ll interrupt my “flow”, so i’ll hold it in which causes more stress eventually lol. these are just some examples, but it’s very relatable to me!

i completely relate to the restroom bit!! i hate that we have such bodily functions that force us to drop whatever we are doing immediately just to relieve our bodies 😂😂 but yes it is important to not neglect our bodies like that

Sitting here enjoying a bowl of Siggi's for the first time and then saw the doodle in your Cousin 😀 I think it's important to take bathroom breaks regularly. In my 20s the worst time I was sick was when I developed a UTI because, like you, work seemed more important than taking care of bodily functions (hint: it isn't). Always enjoy your videos so much, so glad you're looking after you in better ways!

Helen, this video is so relatable! first of all, same! I am also introverted, and extremely awkard and shy. I start stuttering when I speak to people because of anxiety, and sometimes cant even form proper sentences. But getting a customer service (barista) job really helped with that. Even saying "Hi, hows it going" to complete strangers made it so much easier for me to speak to strangers because I would always take it as "part of the job" to calm my anxiety! Secondly, I totally get being stresssed when things dont go according to plans, especially when you are planning hourly, which is why I prefer the weeks style of planning (horizontal). This way, I can make a list of what i need to get done in the day, and not have a specific time. So if anything comes up, I dont feel like I "missed" the work, it just gets delayed or postponed, but still stays in the to-do list. Thirdly, I'm the same with the holding it in situation! lol! Ive been trying my best to go when I need to, and drinking more water. You're not alone, I'm 27 and still stuggling with it HAHA

  • @petalopapercrafts

Also an introvert who needs alone and quiet space... but it turns aout than my husband and my son are very talkative and extroverted persons hahah. But the good thing is they understand and they give my space when I need to recharge. My husband even recognizes my need for space before I notice xD, he is so awsome.
I'm also trainig myself to say NO (people pleaser here), and to give a second thought whenever I have an idea, because I usually start something apparentely briliant, not being able to do it (time, skills, support, etc.) and get overwhelmed and frustrated.

Happy Sunday Helen! Loved the video! I know it’s the internet, but I really appreciate you sharing, one of the reasons why I love and support you so much. I feel like since I’ve started watching your videos and being in the group, it’s definitely helped out my mental health in the way that I realized I’m not alone, and for that, I’m the utmost thankful.
Take it from someone who is 27, and I’ve worked in hospital settings where it’s always go, go, go! you definitely want to go to the bathroom when you gotta go. There’s a joke between my doctors and colleagues that when we hit 50+ we’ll definitely need a pessary because we always hold it when we shouldn’t! 😅. As I’ve changed jobs, I’ve definitely have tried and am trying to do that, plus kegel exercises LOL!!
I love the eating journal as recently I feel like I’ve been unfortunately going back to old habits. Ever since I got sick last month, I’ve hardly felt hungry, I don’t consume as many calories as I should and I think for me personally it would be helpful to jot down what I do eat so I’ll be incorporating that in my daily journal entry, thank you ☺️
I feel like ever since 2020 I’ve been more of an introvert but at the same time, I still love to travel and have no problem talking to strangers, LMAO! You are definitely not alone, as English is my third language and even though I was born here in the States, sometimes I feel timid around others but get an adrenaline rush when I just talk to strangers 😂😂😂
My mom and I go on walks regularly (not daily, I wish one day!) and the people where I live are very nice and always wave and greet us, it’s nice to interact with others for sure.
Thank you again for sharing, all my love! ❤

Loving these midnight journal sessions!! And these are some great tips. Thank you for your openness and transparency. It’s so nice to know you aren’t alone (obviously we know but, you know what I mean) I really resonated with “take care of yourself like you would those you care about” and “go to the bathroom when your body needs to”. It’s crazy how much more stress we put on ourselves to try to get things done when our body needs to handle it’s business too. 😅❤

Ok so the talking to strangers thing and the toilet thing I completely get. I’ve been through a lot and lost a lot of people in my life. I have 4 kids so I’m always saying I’ll pee when I’ve done this job. I find your channel addictive as I like the organised/neat/artistic views of your planners but also can empathise a lot with the mental health struggles! Feel less alone knowing someone else out there is like me. Thank you!

Thank you Helen for doing this. I been watching you since I became a TCMC fan and for me you are like a inspiration and motivation for me. I also haven't been feeling the best for a while now and for you to share your input on what works to make you feel better makes me have a feeling that I'm not alone and maybe do the stuff you do to implement to my schedule too. For me, I try to work on my planner every day just to make me feel like I did something and not feel I'm lazy. I used to walk when I take my kids to school, but I started to drive now. But maybe I should try to put an evening walk just to give me some breathing space.

I just discovered your channel with your Leonardo unboxing; congrats on the new space (and the new pen!). 4:53 I feel you on the scheduling thing and when stuff doesn’t go according to plan. I was that way for quite a while. Now, I’m married with multiple kids and plan events for a living; the only thing I assume at the start of my day is that literally nothing I set out for my day will go according to plan. I still get annoyed when I didn’t finish all the things I set out to do in a day or plans get thrown off whack, but, you’re absolutely right: mentally preparing yourself for things to deviate from your plans at some point really helps you be okay with just taking things as they come and rolling with it; at the end of the day, it’s much easier to triage the task list and reset for the next day.

So happy for you that you're taking more time to care for your wellbeing :') A healthy habit I've been incorporating lately into my journaling is writing in the five check boxes at the top of the Hobonichi Cousin's daily pages and using that area for five daily affirmations so that I practice positive self talk, because I am absolutely vicious to myself at times lol it feels kind of hokey at first, but it really does help. It was very validating to hear you talk about doing better in a slightly messy space. I've been that way for a long time but often felt that that was just me making excuses for being a slob. I feel like clean spaces are a lot of pressure to maintain where as in a slightly messy space I feel like I have the freedom to try things. Also I totally do the pee thing too and have been trying to get better at it. I never look back on it and am like "that was a good decision I made". I think I do it because I don't want to break my flow but I mean needing to go broke my flow, staying is just staying in the broken flow so what's the point? Also recently referred to getting my steps in as a non-negotiable. I feel so much better when I do. It's nice to hear about healthy behaviors that aren't really...traditional. They're like self kindness and self maintenance. They're easy to overlook. I appreciate you sharing!

I've been working on prioritizing listening to my body and taking care of myself as I need to not when its almost to late. It's helped me take rest days when needed and not be so hard on myself when I do. It's a great way of thinking to get into that definitely impacts all areas of your life!

    I am socially awkward, too.
I like to ask people if they got a haircut when their hair looks different. Sometimes people say "..no.." And for a long time I didn't know what to say after that. Now, I just say "you must be looking extra fresh today" and that usually produces a smile.
I think if someone comes back with a comment like "these are contacts," or something similar, you could say "well, you look fabulous" (or pretty, or nice, or wonderful, etc). I think in almost all situations, that would go over well.

This was a good Midnight Journaling episode. I also love an organized mess. I'm not inspired when it's too clean but I also have to keep my space tidy enough to not stop me from journaling. I didn't even think of holding it when I need to go to the bathroom being a bad thing, but I am realizing that it is. I always feel like if I get up to go to the bathroom, it will ruin my current focus lol. I have also been trying to voice my compliments to strangers/friends and make sure I greet people I am walking past. It is very nerve racking lol, but I feel good when. I do it even though there are ocassional fails.

I barely have time to sit and calm myself down because my mind is on work when I come into the office. But starting June, I think I need to lay down my dilemma with work to have a balance work, family and life. Just not healthy for me to over work extra 8 to 10 hours per week not get things done. It can take away my family life. Hope you will find some balance with work and life.

I've been using a time tracking app for things I want to do more of. I used to just keep track of the things I wanted to do less of, but then every time I was in the middle of doing one of those things, no matter how long I spent on it, I felt bad. This way I have the opposite feeling. Because I'm only tracking the things I want to do more of, each time I see the numbers go up, I want to keep going. I can sort the habits I'm making progress on by day, week, month, year, or overall. It shows a nice pie chart, hours, minutes, seconds, and percentages. My exercise, language learning, time spent reading, using my fountain pens, and interacting with my pets has all increased. It's called Simple Time Tracker, btw.

Don't hold on to your pee, you don't want to get a UTI. It's not fun. Love you. Take care of yourself.

Organized chaos is all good! Been embracing the curveballs life throws at me lately via the excellent book, “Embrace The Suck.” Highly recommended. 😃

    1. Follow camel here.... why do we do this to ourselves?
    2. I was a super shy kid (most photos when I am under ten, I am hiding behind my Mom's leg or my big brother) and only started coming out of my shell during uni. I was in my late 20s before I could hide my introversion in my work world (#facts)
    3. I would describe my desk more as organized chaos and I have learned to not beat myself up for it!
    4. LOVE you and these real talks, xxo

I think my listening and reading skills has improved in this. Imagine doing it at the same time. Haha. Especially the part when you're so excited about the fountain pen. May I know what fountain pen is that? I want one too!

    Hi Helen!
I don't know if you're gonna read this comment because it's an """old""" video and you might be busy but this video gave me a LOT of things to say
Btw, I'm very bad at expressing myself, so I hope I won't sound rude or anything, i'm just very awkward in messages (and english isn't my first langage) T-T
(Also this is your sign to go to the bathroom before reading the rest of the comment! Bathroom breaks are super important!)
So first of all, I'm super happy you're trying to be more flexible about your schedules, I remember when I started to follow you in like march, i was a bit scared when I saw how much you were planning your weeks, because I knew i couldn't to that myself without stressing me out if anything goes wrong, and i was scared the same was happening to you.
I am diagnosed with ADHD and planning is a NIGHTMARE to me, like when I'm planning something for the day, i am on edge the whole day before the moment, idk it's stressing me out so much, and before getting diag i just thought i was stupid or a drama queen, but then i learned it just wasn't for me. Maybe planning everything works the best for you, but it's always good to take a step back and says "it's okay if i don't do exactly as i planned, that doesn't mean my day is messed up, or that I messed up something." (yes I'm a psychology major, i care a lot about mental health lmaoo)
concerning bathroom breaks, this is super important. I know it can be a lot taboo online but I'm happy you feel comfortable enough to share, I actually had the OPPOSITE. Like (story time) a few years ago, I had very very bad anxiety, and undiagnosed so i wasn't treated or anything. And the anxiety was so bad my brain was convinced that I needed to pee all the time, like idk how to say that but i felt like my bladder was full like ALL THE TIME but everytime i was going to the bathroom nothing was happening obv because it was just psychological. And it was terrible and i really mean it. I didn't want to leave my house anymore because i was so scared of wanting to go the the bathroom all the time and not having bathrooms, I didn't want to drink water anymore, etc. Like it was terrible and the worst is that since it's very taboo I didn't want to talk about it, and couldn't find anything online (now i know it's called toilet anxiety ^^)
anyway, i got diagnosed with generalized anxiety and when i started taking meds and all it got better, it also got better when i REALIZED it was just anxiety, because for MONTHS i thought it was my body that had a problem and even did MRI and ultrasounds loool what a mess.
So now one of my healthy goal is to drink more water, because even if it was like 2 years ago I still kept that mindset of not drinking a lot of water and I know that's not good.
Anyway, love your idea of talking to strangers, I am an extrovert but extrovert with anxiety so I'm always scared of people, and if someone says that they love my hair or eyes i will actually MELT because thats just so nice.
Here are the healthy habits i'm trying to create these days:
    - sleep earlier (i keep thinking that i shouldn't sleep before midnight and now i'm like??? what is this mindset that's stupid)
    - wake up early too lol (I'm 20 and a uni student so yknow i always feel the want to sleep until midday)
    - try to go to the gym (I'm not scared about exercice because i went to the gym with my uni, but now i want to try gym on my own and my anxiety is very annoying I'm feeling so scared to go to the gym alone and being judged....)
    - be more grateful
    - not feeling bad when ADHD/depression/anxiety is ruining my day (i'm always feeling bad about it, but I'm trying to think "girl you got diag with many mental issues and sometimes you have bad days and this is fine")
    - leaving comments (i mean... i watch youtube all day long to have a background noise or i cannot do anything (love ADHD lol) so I'm like: I'm 24/7 on youtube maybe i should start stop being shy and leave comments!)
    - and finally i want to eat more, because I'm like at 1 meal per day and that's very bad, but I'm too lazy to cook ^^
Anyway that was a super long comment, idk if you're gonna read it. Still I'm super proud of you for trying all of those healthy things and I hope you'll stick to it, however please remember that progress isn't linear and it's okay to "fail" what you planned to do :D
Thank you so much for your videos they always bring me so much comfort, I did comment in March (???) saying that i was always journaling while watching your videos and i still do it! Thank you for being my journaling buddy, and sending a lot of love and good vibes your way ❤

Try peeing whenever you get up from your desk. Maybe then you won’t have to delay the urge in the middle of working.

I also had this bad habit of holding urine when I was in my 20’s. Now at 52, I have developed pretty severe bladder issues & live on Uristat (bladder analgesic that turns your urine neon ORANGE)🫠
Go potty when you need to Helen. I am living proof of the damage it does to the bladder. Hugs❤️‍🩹
