What I love about this group/family, in addition to everything all the other commentators have noted, is the way they look at each other. When you are a band you have to be in sync and you can see the Petersens watching each other for changes and breaks and when the song is going to end. Then there is the encouragement. When one is singing the others are watching her, giving happy vibes and encouraging looks. They aren't resenting that the other one gets to be in the spotlight for a song or two. Instead they seem happy that the singer is up there laying it out, getting their few minutes to shine. Then there is the simple joyfulness of the music. You can't have that kind of joy if you don't have great love in the band.
Nick Schaff Very true words..I played for three and half years in a rock and roll group in the early 1960's,and my group mates and myself had a rapport like the Peterson family...and we were just great pals..not related..no stars..we were as one!
@@tomgreene2282 what i intended on that statement was they are just plain good, and it might have come off like they are just good not great. hope not.
Robin Seward Julianne who ends up on the mandolin was in the sixth grade then assuming that I can count. Mom, Karen, is the only one with a music degree.
My favorite thing about the Petersens is the improvement they've made over the years. Which is saying something, because this performance was exceptional!
Just learned that your awesome mother and father homeschooled you. Figures, your wholesome, genuine, spirit shows the love and care from dad and mom. Love you guys!
As an Australian who loves Bluegrass music, this is sublime! Such talent and all from one family. The younger sister Miss Julianne would shortly join them and wow! Can that young lady sing!
It's a privilege to get to here your family play and sing I wish you all the happiness that can be ! I hope to travel to Branson one day when I retire and get to here you all in person ! God Bless you all ! Great pickin and harmony there ! ❤👍👍
I was thinking the exact same thing. They are pretty good in this video. much better than average. But these days they are one another level good. This performance perfectly illustrates this. Amazing band PERIOD
This is the positive side of technology... Bringing such beauty into our lives... these guys exude Christ energy. My cynicism about the world just dissolves when I watch and listen to this pure talent. By their fruits shall ye know them 💚💚💚
Mr Petersen you look very happy with that bass in your hands and your very talented family about you sir. Our children learn love from their mothers but their sence of values and family unity comes from watching their fathers. From a father to a father my comment is simply, "Success" A wonderful family sir.
Katie leads Daddy's Got a Gun so well! That mezzo quality in her timbre really gives the song a buzz and an edge. It's a great match for the mood and meaning of the song, but it seems it has been EQed out in the CDBaby version! I hope a version comes out that sounds more like live. I've got a feeling this song could suddenly go places. Katie also nails the rhythm and emphases in the song, including those punchy onsets, which are so important to the vibe.
First "baby-Julianne" performances I have found. Both parents on stage. Joline must have been one of their first cover's. They were more bluegrass back then. They have broaden since. Karen have a very playful style that also shows in her recent bass playing. These concert showed to be like a valuable hidden gem for me. ⛄🐐🐣😀❤️👍
I love the way they look at each other all the time. A look of love and pleasure and 'awkwardness' due to a slight shortage in room. I LOVE their music but I love their looks just as much.
ok, this is seven years later... I just ran into this video and had to listen to it all. What good music; what joy their playing gives me. I'll have to go to Branson to thank them.
"The Petersens", Wow, Welcome to Auckland New Zealand, you guys Have only just got here by "TH-cam" in 2019, That 30 minutes was great,, what a happy bunch of people and Funny. I and all our sheep loved it. I'll look you up on youtube.
Ellen your voice on that solo, blue is so Soulful it's unbelievable. I've lived a while and I've heard that so many times but no one has done it any better than you did , thank you. And in the last 7 years your voice is just blossomed , I didn't think it could get any better but it has , you are so blessed.
Man I can't stop listening to your vids!!! Just awesome! Love your music, your vibe, and how you just bring a smile to my face!!! All my love and prayers to your success, you deserve it!
I hope to meet you all some day in person in Branson. I'm a disabled vet from Montana and hope to some summer soon while I can still ride my motorcycle get there. So tremendously love listening to you.
There's just something about Ellen's banjo solo in 'what a beautiful day' I just really admire. If you listen closely, she strums then picks it. It's brilliant.
Goodness Sakes!!! How much talent can one family have? In one video, Mom plays bass, Dad's not even on stage! Then brother plays bass, instead of guitar, and the "violin sister" plays uke! Here, Mom is on mandolin and Dad covers the bass! Love blood harmony; the best vocals ever. If there's strings on it- these folks seem to be able to play it? Talk about talented families... this family seems to have musical talent flowing and my favorite is the blood harmony. Thanks for sharing.
Well , that acapella song you all did, really shows where your talent is, it comes from your heart. You have mastered the instruments, but the true Talent is within you. No one can teach it , no one can be trained in it, it is a gift from God. And we are the Blessed ones because you have chosen to share it with all of us , thank you.
*0:38** LYRICS - If Wishes Were Horses*
------------
Well, I was born
With a dark cloud above me
A longing deep in my soul
Well, I was raised up right
An' I know my Mama loved me
But I begged her to let me go
She said, the grass is greener
On the other side
Somewhere there's a bluer sky
And I won't stop runnin' till I'm satisfied
And if wishes were horses
I would ride, ride, ride
You know I love you
My true companion
And you've been my lifelong friend
But there's a hunger inside me
That I know I can't abandon
Until I see what's around the bend
You know, the grass is greener
On the other side
Somewhere there's a bluer sky
And I won't stop runnin' till I'm satisfied
And if wishes were horses
I would ride, ride, ride
Now I've been a rogue
And I've been a rambler
I know too well my sins
I've got the faith of a saint
But the soul of a gambler
And a heart like the restless wind
You know, the grass is greener
On the other side
Somewhere there's a bluer sky
And I won't stop runnin' till I'm satisfied
And if wishes were horses
I would ride, ride, ride [x2]
Yeah if wishes were horses
I would ride, ride, ride

Please don't take him just because you can
Your beauty is beyond compare
With flaming locks of auburn hair
With ivory skin and eyes of emerald green
Your smile is like a breath of spring
Your voice is soft like summer rain
And I cannot compete with you, Jolene
He talks about you in his sleep
And there's nothing I can do to keep
From crying when he calls your name, Jolene
Now I can easily understand
How you can easily take my man
You don't know what he means to me, Jolene
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I'm begging of you please don't take my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Please don't take him just because you can
Now you could have your choice of men
But I could never love again
He's the only one for me, Jolene
I had to have this talk with you
My happiness depends on you
And whatever you decide to do, Jolene
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene

------------
As I wake up in the morning
Of each day that passes by
And I listen to the sounds
Upon my ear
I can't help but keep a watch
Up t'ward the Eastern sky
And I wonder if the trumpet
Will be the next sound I hear
What a beautiful day
For the Lord to come again
What a beautiful day
For Him to take His children home
How I long to see His face
And touch His nail scarred hands
What a beautiful day
For the Lord to come again
All my earthly disappointments
And my trials down here below
Fade away when I remember
His last words
He said He'd return
And take His children home
And I'm longing just to look
Upon the face of my Lord
What a beautiful day
For the Lord to come again
What a beautiful day
For Him to take His children home
How I long to see His face
And touch His nail scarred hands
What a beautiful day
For the Lord to come again [x2]

Oh Lord I thought I would die
He'll do ya, he'll do me

Lord I love to hear him when he calls me sweet baby
What a beautiful dream
I hate to think it all over
I lost my heart it seems
I've grown so used to that man somehow
And I'm nobody's sugar baby now
'Cause I'm a-lonesome
I got the lovesick blues
Now I'm in love, I'm in love with a wonderful guy
That's what's the matter with me

Well I tried an' I tried to keep him satisfied
But he just wouldn't stay
But now that he is a-leavin'
This is all I gotta say...
Gotta feeling cause I'm blue, oh Lord

Well, we're sitting around the house
And, well, it must be half past four
When I hear that hollow knockin'-knockin'
Comin' from the door
Well, Mama runs an' hides on me
And Ellen hit the floor
'Cause Dad just grabbed his Remington
The battle cry for war
And they come knockin'-knockin'-knockin'
Knockin'-a-knocking, knockin' at my door
An' I look right at my sister
'Cause we've seen it all before
And here comes good old Daddy
Man, he sure is havin' fun
So goodbye so long, sorry boys
My Daddy's got a gun
And now we're shoppin' at the mall
An' here comes Tom and Billy Joe
An' my sis an' me both turn to flee
And pray they get down low
'Cause they’re the ones that asked us
To the dance, but we said no
So 3-2-1, out comes the gun
Already set to go
'Cause they come knockin'-knockin'-knockin'
Knockin'-a-knocking, knockin' at my door
An' I look right at my sister
'Cause we've seen it all before
And here comes good old Daddy
Man, he sure is havin' fun
So goodbye so long, sorry boys
My Daddy's got a gun
And they come knockin'-knockin'-knockin'
Knockin'-a-knocking, knockin' at my door

And here comes good old Daddy

So goodbye so long, sorry boys
'Cause they come [knocking]
Knockin' at my door

*28:09** LYRICS - Kentucky Borderline*
------------
She pulled out of Mobile
In the pouring rain
Movin' through the darkness
Like a hurricane
From southern New Port waters
To the Cumberland so green
Louisville by Nashville
An' all points in between
Pounding out a rhythm
Making up lost time
Heading for that
Bluegrass state of mine
White smoke a-rollin'
Whistle blowin'
Listenin' to her engine keepin' time
Kentucky borderline
Montgomery my morning
Birmingham by noon
Onward through the timber
Upward to the moon
Her lonesome whistle cries
A low sighed refrain
Like the boys down on Mill Street
Singin' of the pain
Nothing can ever stop her
From her appointed rounds
This train is moving on
It's glory bound
White smoke a-rollin'
Whistle blowin'
Listenin' to her engine keepin' time
Kentucky borderline
Her lungs are full of fire
Breathin' burnin' coal
Her ragin' locomotion
Like thunder when it rolls
Singin' for the mighty
Who cast her molten steel
Drawed the spike and laid the rail
To ride beneath her wheels
The pride of our nation
She's a monument to them
A southern bell
That mighty L&N
White smoke a-rollin'
Whistle blowin'
Listenin' to her engine keepin' time
Kentucky borderline [x2]

It's a privilege to get to here your family play and sing I wish you all the happiness that can be ! I hope to travel to Branson one day when I retire and get to here you all in person ! God Bless you all ! Great pickin and harmony there ! ❤👍👍
This is the kind of music that makes me smile. Thank you all!
Amazing to look at this older video. The growth these musicians have made is phenomenal. They were good here but now they are over the top
Yes! You have to hear Ellen Petersen Haygood singing in church! This is amazing! th-cam.com/video/IwH046Rjz9Q/w-d-xo.html
I was thinking the exact same thing. They are pretty good in this video. much better than average. But these days they are one another level good. This performance perfectly illustrates this. Amazing band PERIOD
Fantastic group!
This is the positive side of technology... Bringing such beauty into our lives... these guys exude Christ energy. My cynicism about the world just dissolves when I watch and listen to this pure talent. By their fruits shall ye know them 💚💚💚
SO in love with this family and old fashioned American Music
Love the "Lovesick blues" too. This song gives a hint Ellen have been inspired by Patsy Cline in the way she sings. ⛄🐐🐣😀❤️👍
Mr Petersen you look very happy with that bass in your hands and your very talented family about you sir. Our children learn love from their mothers but their sence of values and family unity comes from watching their fathers. From a father to a father my comment is simply, "Success" A wonderful family sir.
The banjo player has a beautiful voice.
I love it. What a great Family.👍
Great musicians and vocalists! They have developed their God given talents and are using them to bless others. Thank you, Petersons.
Katie is a great spoke's person. Amazing family.

John Foley 😂
John Foley Mr Spoke invented the bike tire. Then settled in Spokane Washington, which he named after his wife.
This is magic. Heaven. My life is changed forever after watching and hearing this family.
Really like to hear Ellen sing Blue. Just beautifully done!
David S Bill Mack would be really pleased.
I believe Katie can do some Texas fiddle.!
Nice to see Mom and Dad in action! Greatings for all of You from Poland :-)
Is this one family? I have no words. So many great voices and musicans. This is perfect.
I love the ease in which you access both the chest and head voice. Absolutely beautiful.
Love the harmonies! Awesome band!
OMG. These girls are incredibly talented AND BRIGHT.
How could anyone dislike this performance.
First "baby-Julianne" performances I have found. Both parents on stage. Joline must have been one of their first cover's. They were more bluegrass back then. They have broaden since. Karen have a very playful style that also shows in her recent bass playing. These concert showed to be like a valuable hidden gem for me. ⛄🐐🐣😀❤️👍
congratulations, a lot of beautiful family, the parents did a great job
So glad to see Mom singing backup and jamming the Mandolin. God bless you guys.
I love the way they look at each other all the time. A look of love and pleasure and 'awkwardness' due to a slight shortage in room. I LOVE their music but I love their looks just as much.
Our favorite Branson group! Real down-home-clean-talent. Love them and love watching them grow and get better and better each year! The Marcums
ok, this is seven years later...
This never gets old
Man I can't stop listening to your vids!!! Just awesome! Love your music, your vibe, and how you just bring a smile to my face!!! All my love and prayers to your success, you deserve it!
99x the musical talent than 99% of what is on the radio today. So glad i'm able to enjoy.
God Bless Your Family! 😇Your Amazing!😊 Get it mama 😂
Petersen family, what a discover for me! They are simply incredible. Thank you very much indeed.
You have to hear Ellen Petersen Haygood singing in church! Amazing! th-cam.com/video/IwH046Rjz9Q/w-d-xo.html
That's what we love America for. Greetings from Russia and Merry Christams to you guys
They are having so much fun! Awesome
If Ellen sang the phonebook, I'd listen. I can't say just how much I'm still in love with the entire family here in 2024.
So nice to see mum in action. Also the great support from dad. wish you well. MALC UK
That version of Blue.....OH MY!!!!! So good.
I just wish I was there that night. How talented and warm can a family get?
This is probably the cutest family ever !!
People don't realize how hard it is to pick a banjo and sing like that , amazing tallent.
❤ Love in sight ❤ & motion ❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 : Wonderful 🇨🇦 : A fan from Canada : Thank U for sharing your talents 😊.
I believe there is at least one brother and one sister that aren't even on stage here...
I see the youngest did make it on stage.
That is Dad on the Bass!
@@dudleycornman1624 i think Matt is the only son but Emmet joined later on.
Such talent!
Those are some proud parents !! Mother Maybell and Johnny & June would be very happy !!
Wow that banjo work was exceptional, thanks for sharing your talent and inspiration!! 🙏🙏🙏
