  • Most of the 11:30 news rebroadcast of "NewsChannel 4," missing only the last segment of the news, airing on PAX station WPXN-TV (channel 31) in New York. Immediately before the rebroadcast, the news would air live on NBC O&O WNBC (channel 4). Many PAX stations did that - rebroadcasting news from the local NBC affiliate, including WNYT which had Albany's PAX station do so until 2005.
The news is anchored by Chuck Scarborough and Sue Simmons, with Janice Huff and Len Berman assuming their duties, plus reporters John Noel, Rob Morrison and Ralph Penza. Chuck and Sue were WNBC's long-running anchor team, lasting for 32 years from 1980 to 2012.
The day's news includes a report on smuggled cigarettes, a car being pushed out of a parking garage and dangling off of it, some abuse and crime stories, and the big story on WNBC's helicopter crashing. The crash happened on a city apartment, and the people on board sustained minor injuries. The chopper was out covering a shooting when the crash happened.
Janice's forecast is mostly 60 and 70 degree weather, with one forecast in the mid-70s. Len's sports report includes highlights on NBA in the home stretch, and the Yankees playing minus Derek Jeter. Janice is still at WNBC to this day, taking over the main weather duties in 1996 when Al Roker went to the Today Show.
This was also during WNBC's era of using the Rampage Music news theme and a glossy look that including the NBC peacock being reflected from different angles. It looked eye-catching and was different from what all NBC's other stations used (though WTVJ and WVTM did pick it up eventually), but it didn't help the fact WNBC wasn't doing well ratings-wise. It was also an improvement over using the 1995 "NBC Stations" look past its expiration date.
I don't think the PAX rebroadcast has even seen TH-cam, and if it has it hasn't been this era. Of course, PAX is now Ion Television, and eventually it would stop airing news altogether. For the sake of it being a rebroadcast, I gave this video a PAX name and copyright.

The connection between PAX and NBC was that NBC owned a stake in Paxson Communications at the time.

The irony was the pilot of Chopper 4 had served our country and said that they’ve been through worse. They dodged yet another bullet and awesome skills to prevent collateral damage and the competition came to help 4 out while they were Chopper4 less.
