Berg's VC is a magnificent, remarkable work and deeply emotional. A wonderful summary of the key moments in this piece.

What a wonderful detailed explanation!! I didn't know the story behind Berg's Violin concerto and it enhances the listening experience so much more. Thank you, Mr Shaham! :)

THE BERG VIOLIN CONCERTO IS PHENOMENAL. I WOULD THINK THAT MEMORIZING IT IS ABOUT AS HARD AS PLAYING IT.

Thankyou ! This talk opens with the popular Barber concerto in the background . So iridescent , beautiful true American music . The Berg concerto its taken 40 years for me to get excited by it . Can't remember anything but the opening open strings then the section with Bach's cantata quoted . I took the score with me when Mutter and MTThomas played it in miami in 2016 .So glad he is here talking about it .Need to read some papers about it ! Wonderful to hear the solo parts played here !

In the amazing journey from the beginning to the end, there are moments of pure magic that make this a masterpiece for the ages. Berg had a wonderful ear for beauty and was able to use the 12-tone system in lovely ways that do not offend the listener. Gil is right. The ending is heavenly.

It's wonderful how alive he is when talking about this great early 20th century masterwork . I wonder if he has studied the Schonberg violin concerto too . Hahn needs to do a video talking about this music. 20th century music often needs a way in.Scherchen said just listen . I don't think it's often enough ! 1936 .Anxiety then 1938 .Terrible days after the freedom of Weimar Republic .

Why is the Barber sounding while he is talking about the Berg? Strange mix

It might be from his 1930s Violin Concertos Vol 1 recording, that includes both the Barber and the Berg

tried hard to grasp this music. Would like to hear the violin played solo without orchestral part so i could follow what is going on. Is there some way this is possible ? ps. I cant read music.
