Exceptionally well thought out and choice of items. I wish I could be this minimal and organized. As a musician my guitars and amps are a must. But I have purged over half of what I once had. It all fits in my van. Anything more is too much! 👍🏻 🚐💨
Fantastic video. Have watched it numerous times before I declutter. Just highlights how minimalist living is a wonderful idea and easily doable for anyone. Would love to see an updated video.
Ha tell me about it. I have had a Mac for a few years during the past 15 years but or so but I mainly stick with a PC laptop as you get more power for your money and it's super easy to upgrade without being charged a crazy amount ha.
i love the osprey farpoint 40 to death. it changed the way i travel. i got rid of almost every other travel bag i have. it's just perfect and fits handluggage.
Amazing video. I love the minimalist style and approach. Shows you don’t need to be bogged down with belongings. I would probably change the shirts for t-shirts as not a fan of wearing shirts all the time and would probably have gone for a more suitable footwear, otherwise everything looked spot on an almost exactly how my travel bag would look.
yup. this setup works for him, but i think my bag would be more in line with yours. i'd also opt in for sandals even if i have to lose the laptop. my ipad will do. edit: i also forgot i would need shorts too.
You inspire me, thanks man. :) I want to be a minimalist too, I've already sold or donated more than half the stuff I own. I own around 15 kg worth luggage but I hope to come down to 10 kg soon. Great video, keep going!
i'm in the same boat as you. i live in a place with mild winters, so i can dress for spring, summer and fall just the same and add a cardigan and thin jacket for winter. but a wardrobe capsule could've given him more variety in his pairings, and allowed the inclusion of shorts for more purpose... exercise and swimming are two that i'm thinking about. sandals could serve double purpose over walking socks too. and there were too many tech items that basically do the same thing, but this setup probably fits his lifestyle best. i'm sorry to the original uploader if this offended you, but what i said was just to expand on more ideas between viewers of what you've done. i think you're vid was fantastic and i thank you for making me think more on reducing my consumerism... i'm basically using up my clothes to not make waste of what i already own, and get to wear you're at.👍👍
I'm jealous of the birds I observe in my backyard. They are so free. None of them own any possessions. Nothing to organize, clean, maintain, fix, move or worry about. They own themselves only. Free to go anywhere without the shackles. They find a tree and build a nest anywhere they want only with the twigs they find scattered everywhere for free. Humans think we are the most intelligent and free beings but we are the most enslaved.
Thanks for sharing. If you wanted to, you could probably replace half of your stuff with one good smart phone (camera, watch, notepad, ipod, etc.etc.etc)
mb19842002 - True, but a man has to have his electronics technology! I love his choice of gadgets. If one fails or battery runs down then you have a back-up. But again, you make a valid point! 👍🏻
I've reduced a bit more and I've been using a Samsung Note 4 as my camera for about 2 months now as I gave the Sony camera away but now that I'm travelling full-time I've decided to get a GoPro5 as it's super lightweight, tiny and you can smash it around. I want to reduce as much as I can but not be uncomfortable. Always testing/changing items.
Pretty awesome. My first reaction was to say " But you're a guy..." however you have most things figured out so I could work with the same amount if I wanted to. Truth is that people got used to live with so much that living with that bare minimum can seem a bit ( or a lot) frightening. But I could really go for it.
Rita .Sassatelli Heres some tips to help you out. Take your most used make up, lipstick, perfume and hair products. And then pic your most worn outfits including shoes. If you are all right with reading digitally buy a Kindle if not get rid of books you have read but own for a long time. Do this with with everything else. Once you got your most used items from each pile. Get the items that not in that pile, and put them in bags that are to be sold, give away to friends family or charity or thrown out to the rubbish. Hope this helps.
Rita .Sassatelli Oh yes it will be a slow process I started when I was 13/14 and be doing it for four years nearly, I got rid of my emotional items that I didn't use but was attached to in the first two years and then everything was easier from then. Well good luck with your minimalist journey oh and I recommend you (if you got Netflix) a documentary called Minimalism: A documentary about important things. You may it helpful and encouraging as I did when I was thinking of giving up and living the same life style. Much happier now, so good luck and live happy.
Rita .Sassatelli I had the "But he's a guy, so..." thought myself but then again I'm working quite steadily on streamlining clothing and am learning from happy experience that a lady can certainly do just as well. For instance, even with my thick, curly type 4 hair, I've gotten my hair product stash down to a third of what it was in 2016. My makeup was somewhat unruly until I suspended my subscription boxes, and commenced a very promising Project Pan. I have banned myself from buying any more cosmetics until the items (stored in a train case) are finished, and no more duplicates/ back-up items except for certain feminine hygiene products. I am a dual major in two text -heavy courses, but almost all other non-college related books I have bought since 2010 are Kindle format. I've cancelled magazines in favor of getting my Real Simple and Wired fixes at the library. I hope you're successfully making the lifestyle changes you want. I guess it boils down to deciding what really adds value to one's life and going for quality over quantity.
SamTheMinimalist I agree! I own three full size perfumes, but I'm also either steadily using up a bunch of those samples that come with purchases or just gifting them to family members as they come in. I really enjoy the three perfumes I do have and repurchase whenever one runs out. Excess clothing has been listed on Poshmark. My wardrobe is down to 10 dresses ( most of which are all-season fabrics), 5 skirts , 5 blouses and 2 pair of dress pants. For layering , it's come down to 7 cardigans/knitwear pieces and a week's worth of tee shirts and leggings/tights. My biggest challenge has been with reducing my (not *too* terrible) cosmetics stash. Guess I'll try to sell most of the excess on Craigslist , Makeup Geek or whatever because let's be honest, no one except a professional makeup artist needs a collection of 10 nude lipsticks💄.
This video was just before I set off from travelling so I was getting everything ready to pack. I've been travelling full-time for just over 3 months, here is everything I own now, th-cam.com/video/J30-RLFdn2c/w-d-xo.html I'm still adjusting things as I travel.
I would give it an 8 or 9. It really is the best packback for starting out. I'm now living out of a Patagonia 30L as I wanted to reduce further and didn't need all the padding. But I would highly recommend the Osprey 40L :) check out a few video reviews on TH-cam to see the full layout.
man your British like me what do you do ? do you travel with work this is really intersting as im stuck in a dead-end job while at uni and want to travel eventually becoming a journalist or freelance writer
Hey Lewis, I have now updated my kit here th-cam.com/video/J30-RLFdn2c/w-d-xo.html I work whilst I travel, my website is www.tierney.tv I make animations, motion graphics etc. Just get those writing skills up enough for people to pay you (freelance) and reduce your outgoings then travel the world :) it's that simple, just action it... If you want it bad enough.
Hey :) I scanned them in and have them backed up on the cloud. I gave physical photos & items to family, charity or threw them away. The memory isn't in the photo, the photo just helps you to activate that specific moment in your mind, physical or digital photo, it does the same. Plus I get to pack lighter and create new memories :)
Suppose if you're traveling and staying w/ others- and relying on them to handle many things, you don't need to own much. But saw a similar video from a guy filming at his own home.. who even counted each individual thing (less than 200 items!). Guess he was trying to get the list down to some arbitrary # he came up with for.... reasons? :D While he laid out things like 1 spoon, 1 knife, 1 bowl, dental floss, etc. I couldn't help thinking "You know what this dude DOESN'T have? Tools - of ANY KIND! A flashlight that isn't also his phone. Even a candle. ANY medicines or first aid supplies. A single piece of artwork or photo hanging anywhere in his home.. anything from his childhood, etc." So either he purposely left out things that he does actually own - or he's woefully unprepared to handle almost anything unexpected (or even general maintenance). Yeah.. that sounds more like OCD than a "sustainable lifestyle" to me!
I usually don't stay or rely on others I stay in an Airbnb, Hotel, Hostel, Couchsurfing, Boats, Shipping Container Homes, House Sitting etc. Lots more options to just buying or renting a house. I've mainly been living in Airbnbs for the past 3-4 years. For a flashlight. I use my phone light, or the light on my power bank. I have a mini first aid kit I made but in the past 4 years I've only needed 3-4 plasters for cuts and that's about it. All of my artwork, family photos/videos are digital on the cloud so I can access them anywhere on the planet without losing them. It personally makes me happy to live like this. I'm happy to have photos digitally as a photo just helps reignite a memory so it doesn't have to be physical but I get why other people like to have physical photos and that's okay. It's all down to the individual. This is a sustainable lifestyle for me personally and I see why others would like to own more if it brings them happiness :)
Watching some of the items I was wondering, whether my 300-items wardrobe (rings and pins included) cost more or less than the high-tech easy-drying waterproof things in here)) I find it hard to get rid of shoes that badly hurt, as I once paid them and I have no money to buy another pair... Yet I get comments of people saying that I own very little.
This lifestyle isn't for everyone but It makes it so much easier to travel and with less materialistic goods I can really focus and have a lot less worries. Also money isn't the most precious thing, time is! Well, for me anyway, you can always make more money but you can't get time back.
Yeah, it's on a hook so I can disconnect it easily. It didn't come with the jacket. It's just that clients pass me design assets/files or if I want to watch a movie on the go I can plug in into my phone or tablet. Always good to have a USB handy :)
Exceptionally well thought out and choice of items. I wish I could be this minimal and organized. As a musician my guitars and amps are a must. But I have purged over half of what I once had. It all fits in my van. Anything more is too much! 👍🏻 🚐💨

You are the first minimalist I have ever seen who is not using Mac, iPhone, iPad...etc. Finally, I find someone is truly free : )
Ha tell me about it. I have had a Mac for a few years during the past 15 years but or so but I mainly stick with a PC laptop as you get more power for your money and it's super easy to upgrade without being charged a crazy amount ha.

I admire your lifestyle. I'm definitely inspired to venture onto the minimalistic ways.

This is awesome! I can fit all of my things in a 55L backpack, but 40L is even more impressive. Right on!
You inspire me, thanks man. :)

Awesome video bud. Would be cool to see how you packed it all in the bag. Always room for another video...
Prinesh Vythilingam Thanks, I have an updated video where I pack it all in the bag :)
My goal is to live this way!
Nice, I look forward to seeing you're video when that day comes :)

Amazing and inspiring as always. Thank you for the insight!
Thanks for sharing. You know the music cuts out at 2min13?
This is a very well made video. Very nice.
This music makes me feel like you are a fan of Oshikorosu Akumu.
Hi there... i would love to know where did u buy and what brand did you have all those things? Best regrads from indonesia. Thank you😉

mb19842002 the phone is amazing maybe not the best specs or camera but the battery is just mental
Abdizamad Mohamoud a
Stranger Studios which completely goes against minimalism.
Amei esse vídeo 😊❤
Cool video, thanks for sharing! :)

SamTheMinimalist It does. I've been doing it lately with many things but it is a slow process. I have to get over emotional attachments and the likes.

where was your Universal Adapter?
This was a month before I set off travelling full-time. I have one of those now :) I'll be doing an updated packing video soon :)
Dude who did the intro music for your video? I would love that on replay. Your intro video is cool too.
well that's all one needs!
Oh OK sorry about that I really need to look at the date That video was published before I make a comment
Love it!
do you have links especially for the tech gear ?
I've updated part of my kit but I will be releasing a new video soon with all of the correct names so a quick Google search will be easy :)
I haven t seen any scisors nor nail cutter, nor any blade at all. Is it because airport security?

where did you get the wooden toothbrush?
and the inflatable pillow? I've been looking for something that folds down super flat like that.
The Flintstones
I am really interested in the off spray 40 L how would you recommend it on a scale from 1 to 10
I would give it an 8 or 9. It really is the best packback for starting out. I'm now living out of a Patagonia 30L as I wanted to reduce further and didn't need all the padding. But I would highly recommend the Osprey 40L :) check out a few video reviews on TH-cam to see the full layout.

Remember this :p

What he's wearing, he did highlight in the video! :)
The Minimalist Ninja hhhhh
Yes, clothing is clutter :P
Ryan Kremer is thinking out of the box hahah
Ryan Kremer Maby he is.....
😎

How do you iron your shirts fam?
If I'm in a city working in offices/design studios then irons are easy to come by. If I'm in the middle of nowhere then I'm not bothered with creases.
Watching some of the items I was wondering, whether my 300-items wardrobe (rings and pins included) cost more or less than the high-tech easy-drying waterproof things in here)) I find it hard to get rid of shoes that badly hurt, as I once paid them and I have no money to buy another pair... I'm still dreaming of the day when I'm going to be able to "can always make more money". I'm happy I don't need to travel anymore also...
is your usb connected to your jacket?
Yeah, it's on a hook so I can disconnect it easily. It didn't come with the jacket. It's just that clients pass me design assets/files or if I want to watch a movie on the go I can plug in into my phone or tablet. Always good to have a USB handy :)
I love the video but I have one question why do you have two tablets in a computer you could just put everything onto one tablet?😂
Jason Whitford This video was when I set off travel about 9 months ago. I now live out of a 30L
love the g-stars have the same model of jeans ! But don't wash them cuz they turn to sh!!!te ±
Ha yea same here. I've gone through 4 pairs over the past couple of years. Great jeans :)
quien carajos carga una armónica y una calculadora para viajar?
yo
i only see 3 pairs of black socks not 4 haha,
Wearing a pair :)
You don't own a bed and a duvet? Very inspiring though
Detteermiig Nope. I live out of Airbnbs full-time. I now have an updated version of this video where I'm in a 30L.
Way too many tech tools. Not sure why you need a mobile, kindle a surface and a laptop? Also trimmer can be avoided.
