I purchased a complete junker of a 1970's Seiko Bellmatic with a 4006A movement inside. This movement and the watch as a whole was rusted solid to the point that the hands could not be altered and the movement did not run at all. Join me as I strip this down and attempt to make it run again.

Thanks Mark! The watch looks a lot better now. Yep, you have to pay close attention to the photos. Sometimes the sellers don't even know what they have.
I won a bid awhile back on eBay and the seller, and I guess everyone else that viewed the two tools, thought that the tools where for installing hands on watches. After close examination I realized that they were actually very nice Bulova Accutron index finger collet adjustment tools on one end, and index finger pawl adjustment tools on the other end.
I got them pretty cheap even considering shipping from across the pond!

Not a watch maker but I owned one of these in the 70's, bought in the PX in Germany when I was in the Army. The watch was stolen in a burglary of my house in 1987. It was a great watch, felt good and when the alarm went off it made a nice buzz on my wrist. Important lesson. Never store valuables in the top dresser drawer. Burglars know where you keep you nice things.

Great old watches, but I'm enjoying my cheap Russian Vostoks and Chinese Loreo "Divers". Being retired now and mostly housebound I have nowhere to be at any particular time.

What liquid did you use to clean them? Benzene and alcohol 95%? And did you brush 'em rust with brass brush or dip for awhile then it becomes clean? I got a belmatic from my grandpa and cz I live in tropical area it got rusty through the decades. I wanna fix them, sending out to you would be too far away and quite costly as I live in another side of the world and there's none watchmaker here that could fix it, so I wanna try to fix it myself. I wonder what to do...

I just bought one of these Seiko Bellmatic that doesn't run. Preliminary investigation seems to be very dried and gummed up oil. I feel lime I can service this watch based on this video. Lol... If all else fails I'll have some parts to sell to make back my investment... We shall see. Thanks so much for this video and for all of your great information on watch repair. One question if you happen to see this: There is dried oil on the day wheel. Do you have any advice on cleaning that off or should I get a new date wheel. Thanks.

Hi, I'm doing some watch repair as a hobby, I often find the screws are too tight in some of the ETA2824 and clone movements, I'm either damaging the screw head or the screw driver, (tbh usually damaging both), but seeing from your videos, you can remove heavily rusted screws without much trouble at all. can you advise how to deal with seized/rusted screwed please? thank you!

Brilliant work, I own one of these bellmatics and was always curious about how it looked on the inside. It's one of my favourites the charm of having a tiny hammer and bell alarm clock crammed into a wristwatch will never get old to me! P.S great music

So, how did you become a watchmaker? Were you an apprentice? Just wondering how long it took to learn the bulk of your skills, and how a person even becomes a watchmaker.

Very nice work as always! I have a Seiko on the bench at the moment, similar vintage and similar movement minus the alarm complication. I’ve let it sit for a while, but this episode has inspired me to get back into it. Thanks again... I love seeing these basket cases return to life.

Amazing video - just seen! I have had one of these same watches from new. Recently repaired and cleaned after wearing whilst sailing and subject to a small ingress of sea water causing rust. (The watch over the years was no longer sealed.) After repair and cleaning the watch looses about 3 seconds a day whilst being worn and gains about 3 seconds a day overnight when placed face up. So, with a routine - I do not have to adjust the watch. 🙂 Watching your video gives me an insight into the workings of this timepiece. In 1977 the watch was being worn and survived a fire undamaged - more than I can say for me. Thank you. Watch is not for sale by the way 🙂

Hello. I'm from Poland. 48 years ago,in summer 1972 my father bought for
me (from a US tourist) used watch Seiko 5 Automatic 21 Jewels 6119-8470
number 141526 TL. I have this watch (not working) today. Can you tell
me some information about year of production this watch and country? Is
the TL in number means Thailand?
