Looks great, I’m sure you are aware though this won’t be permanent. The back of the plasterboard will go mouldy due to moisture from the walls. Some mechanical ventilation might help.

Oh wow, that is really good. I would have a lot to learn from you then :)
For a basic conversion, how much do you think I should expect. I have a 2 bed property, and the ceiling height is already around 1.9m in the cellar.

@@jlpropertychannel9900 we got quoted 18K… but DIY’d for a 6k. And that’s will a builder putting in the window.
My best advice would be to watch our on the eBay etc. people doing similar project will have left over tanking membrane, and as the not many people are completing conversions they go for dirt cheap. I was lucky to get most of what I need for about £200… rather then thousands.
Took me about a year DIY. Do it in phases so you don’t hurt the bank so much and make sure at the end of each phase you can still store stuff done there!
You’ll need build regs sign off too, worth it so when you sell it is officially another room which will add at least 10% to your property.

Really good advice btw and yes, the value would definitely increase. I got a few houses with cellars and I'm considering doing one of them up including the cellar too with BC regs.
Do you also need an additional fire escape for the new cellar room?
Thanks for your help Daniel 👍

Thanks for this! We have a Victorian terrace in the midlands and we’d like to make the cellar useable for a washing machine and walk in larder. It’s just bare bricks and collecting cobwebs at the moment! Could you please share where you sourced your materials? Any advice for getting plumping installed to use it as a laundry room?

    • @jlpropertychannel9900
      @jlpropertychannel9900  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@jounfy Appreciate the comment 😀 I got the materials some time ago, and they will be more expensive now due to material prices increases. Having said that, I normally look at Wickes and Selco for my materials. Then compar between both as they both change prices on items every so often.
If you want to do a laundry room and require plumbing. The main thing you need to work out, is a route for the waste pipe and a pump that is capable of pushing the water to go up against gravity.

@@jlpropertychannel9900 nope. We did our cellar in a Victorian house. Lots of research is very important and you really can’t cut corners.. when you lock away the moisture from the floor you’ll be surprised how much water collects.. when it’s open you get lots of natural evaporation. If we dot and dab, the moisture will get absorbed faster through to the plasterboard. I put wooden batons with a damp proof membrane to reduce the transfer of moisture from the cellar walls.

Morning Rachel, without looking through my costs. It cost roughly £200-£300 to do. Just make sure you put a decent amount of airvents and leave a gap between the wall.
Are you thinking of doing your cellar conversion. Because you may want to go down the route of doing a drainage and tanking etc. That way, you can clarify it as a space when you value the property.

Hi there, thanks for your message :)
If I am not mistaken it was normal gypsum plasterboard and I left an inch gap between the walls and the boards. I used batterns with dampproof course on it. I done this basic cellar conversion just to make the storage more usable. I also used a dehumidifier or a low voltage fan to push air during the day and night to control moisture levels.
It has been okay so far to the best of my knowledge. Having said that my cellar didn't have that much damp conpared to other cellars.
