As an OG Pin Trader, the one piece of advice I can impart to the new generation is... Don't try to jump at the bigger pins right away! Keep it simple and enjoy trading as it's meant to be. Gradually you'll build up your traders and you'll be able to trade for higher level pins. So really, just start slow and HAVE FUN!!

I’ve never traded with other pin traders at Disneyland (last time I went, it completely went over my head) but I definitely would love to next time I visit Cali!! Things are still not back to what it was before Covid for pin trading at WDW (or so I’ve been told since I got into this hobby during the lockdown 😅) but it seems like Disneyland is back to its full swing! It’s honestly amazing to see ❤ What a helpful video for newbie collectors!!
Another fantastic video Kris! Even though I have yet to trade at the famous Frontierland boards your tips are also pretty applicable to online trading. Especially when it comes to the type of characters that are popular/unpopular to trade. One thing I'd recommend for traders like me who don't have ready access to the parks is to stock up on loungefly pins. I have traded up many times, as in trading multiple lougeflys for higher end pins.
Kris - I am just now having time to watch some TH-cam videos and I stumbled across this and it's amazing! You've answered so many wonderful questions about trading at Disneyland! Thanks for pointing out about the fakes and why we don't want them! One thing I make sure to do is bring one board full of cheap pens. Pins that I don't care about. They all started off real. But I will never say no to a guest. So if they come up to me with their Ziploc baggie I will offer them to trade anything off of that one board. it changes every time I go. There are pin levels that need to be understood. Hidden Mickeys are about the lowest value pin, even if desirable, they won't be worth more than, say $5 in trade value. So when you buy mystery packs that cost maybe 3 for $20, remember an Annual Passholder gets that for 20% off, so they get 3 for $18, or $6 a pins. So mystery pack pins and hidden mickeys are kind of equal. Limited Release is probably tier2 and maybe are $10 value wise. PARK released Limited Edition are probably tier3 maybe $15. Some LR are LE are interchangeable. And WDI/DSSH/DEC/Cast releases are probably tier4. Some are $15, some are $1500. So of course there are exceptions and nuances that take months/years to fully understand or appreciate. Pins that are part of a long releasing series usually are better to get, especially early on. It's the end of January. Any park sets that will be monthly releases throughout 2023, get the Jan/Feb one because come Oct-Dec if you miss a release day, you can try to trade a Jan/Feb one for Oct-Dec. Even better if its a popular character that will bring trade value on its own, let alone being early in the set. When in doubt, you can always check eBay sold listings to see rough values. And remember, what you value something isn't always what the trader may value it. I might overtrade for a Sci-Fi pin I like if you're asking for a villain pin I have zero interest in. My recommendation is buy pins you don't like, but are popular characters, so you have good pins to trade for the ones you want.

Thank you for this! I really enjoyed your vids, but they’re so genuinely and feels like a normal day in the park. This year I started doing pins and recently going up to traders in Frontierland. I always didn’t go to them because I collect sports cards and know how people can be and rude when trading. But decided to give it a shot because they have good ones 😭 but some ppl are nice but some aren’t necessarily mean I feel like they ask for so much for just a regular pin. Like for example all I wanted was a pin from a mystery box pin set with all stitch. And they wanted one of my hidden Mickey d pins (those are very liquid). It just felt like a rip off and I know I did but I wanted the pin regardless so I did. It’s intimidating tbh because im still very new. Another time I gave up four pretty good pins for a tiana out of 250 that slides and on paper I was like ooo this is a win! And I got home and checked ebay it’s only like 20 bucks, I got ripped off. I have way more value but I love the pin. It’s just stuff like that where I feel those people are rip offs. Maybe im just not trading when the right people. I just collect what I love.

For me I’ve learned to keep a “value” in my head about the pins I have so I remember how much it’s worth. I also remember to have my phone with me and ask questions about the pin I’m interested in. “Where’s this pin from? Is it from a mystery set? Is it LE or LR?” I also use that info to look up the pin on eBay or Mercari to see how much the going rate it is. Sometimes it may seem that it’s a rip off but on the flip side they may of traded that pin for a higher value at the time and the value went down at the time. Or that specific pin to them is worth more in their opinion. So yes big things are asking questions, looking up the pin on your phone, and also if you’re not 100% willing to give up that pin and feel something is off or not worth it, it’s ok to say no to them ☺️

Yea I was shocked he collected Snow White! I always referred to him as Ben the pin king so when he said Grumpy Ben that’s when I put 2 and 2 together 😂
Hi thanks for the video, when I went to see the pin trading people in frontierland and got some newly released pins and wanted to go after the wdi or the disney studio store pins, but they seem to not be willing to trade the park pins for the more larger and nicer ones.
I was there when We Disney was there and I walked by telling them that I watch their channel but they didn’t hear me lol.. I even told my husband that it would be so cool if I saw Kris Banci since you guys were the ones that got me started doing this pin trading hobby:).. I can’t believe you were there too and I didn’t see you 🙁. Oh well maybe next time! 😜

The last time we were at Disneyland we had a lot of loungefly and there was people in frontierland that didn’t want to trade with us because we had Loungefly’s and they weren’t “NoT rEaL dIsNeY pInS” so we’re going in may and are trying to find some authentic pins to trade. But there was people we were able to trade with for our loungefly’s! Any other place’s where we can get authentic pins? Beside’s hot topic, boxLunch, and instagram sellers.
Hi! That’s strange loungefly pins should be tradable bc of the (c) Disney on the back. According to pin trading rules that makes it ok to trade. I’ve never really had any pushback from CMs so maybe it’s up to their discretion 😔 besides IG sellers I also buy from people off the WhatNot app which are live sales auction style , My D pins and distradingpins4u who has bulk lots of authentic traders!
Great advice! The Frontierland and Picnic tables can be intimidating. I had a bad experience cuz one of the Frontierland traders gave me fakes and I didn't know it at the time. When I checked pin pics online, I found out they weren't authentic. :( Any advice for not getting "swindled"?
