This shit is fucking amazing. I heard many good albums this year but I think nothing beats this. Original, hard-hitting, experimental, insane and fucking metal in all the right places. Masterpiece indeed, this band knows what they are doing.
Been listening to the more "laid back" atmospheric BM the past year but holy shit talk about the other end of the spectrum. It's like a sledgehammer to the face. Awesome killer album
Oh my fucking god. I have been disappointed in so many bands because they used to be awesome and then "tried to get with the times" and just lost their mojo but these guys just keep doing their thing and it kicks ass more and more. There is a god and it's called Anaal Nathrakh.
After facing (yet an other) faillure, I put the headphones on, level the volume as high as I can tolerate, and go for the full album. It's soo cathartic.
I also love that they just look like a couple of low-key computer nerds. I always respect it when bands let their music speak for them. Half the black metal bands wouldn't even come off as that dark or edgy if you didn't know what they looked like.
This album reminds me of a man I once saw. He was so blind with rage he was destroying his own house with his fists. They were beaten bloody and broken and he kept punching holes in his walls like an out of control machine, just non-stop. All the while swearing at the top of his lungs with a breaking up voice -- nearly crying. He must've been at a level of fear, sadness and anger that strips you down to the wild, scared animal that you really are. And that's what some of the screams on this album remind me of. Especially at 1:27, 5:57 or 39:11. To me that sounds a hell of a lot more like a mental breakdown, mixed with all sorts of overwhelming emotion, than the typical 'badass' vocals of metal. And I love this band for it.
I agree, the animalistic shrieking is a different level. It's no longer just vocals on a music track, it sounds like something more real than that, that just happened to be recorded and put to a song.
Years ago when I had room (physically, mentally, emotionally) for recording music, I wanted to capture the despair and rage and complete compromised reality I was experiencing. I think I did a pretty good job at the time, though it's been a long time since I recorded and I'd have to learn to use a new DAW and my drum machine again and have a setup that would physically get in the way of everything in my newer apartment. But I'm mostly writing because that first paragraph is in so many ways hits me right where I've been a lot in my life. It had been mostly learned helplessness and pervasive childhood trauma. Now, since the 2016 US presidential vote, COVID, my brother getting long COVID and being in the hospital for the 6th time (the 4th this year), and living in Maine where we just had what has to be the worst shooting in our history (last year 29 people were shot and killed by firearms in the state. That's a weekend in Chicago), I'm experiencing so much external trauma to add to the CPTSD and nervous system dysregulation. Didn't mean to talk your ear off. I have a psychiatric NP and therapist and good friends. I was just looking for Anaal Nathrakh albums I've either forgotten about or literally missed over the years. This is one, and it's really helping. That's right, extreme metal is helping me. Put that in your pipe and smoke it, Tipper Gore.
This album is just so full of amazing moments, but they can be so brief because of the intense pace. Like @ 13:54 that Post Rock-y riff amidst all the chaos gave me total goosebumps
How it`s possible to produce each time better album than previous? This is so amazing, it would be hard to hold this high standard. Album of the year, for sure.
First impression: Ugh.... Second impression: Ok, that is way too much... I removed it from my interest list in my head, and listened to other stuff, God Dethroned and Entrails. One week without listening to it: I NEED THIS ALBUM!!!!!!!! 6 Months after first time I listened to it: One of my three all-time favourite bands ;)
I can't believe I missed this album. Maybe I wasn't ready for it at the time. This is their best. I like a lot of their stuff particularly Codex, but this is amazing.
It is very rare that something this brutal really catches my ear but this is so bought and in my Top 10 albums of the year (possibly top 3 this is so damn catchy and brutal *is confused*)!
An absolutely EPIC band!!! Sooo frigging good! (... and in case you're wondering: the riff in the beginning of _And You Will Beg for Our Secrets_ [19:56] is from the song _Dark Red Light upon the Bomos_ by Tartaros ;)
a band whose name ive heard for decades, and never checked out. just heard Forward! from the upcoming album. loved it. but now listening to this album for the first time, no doubt will my record collection havre a lot of this band very soon. seriously fucking amazing stuff!
I am addicted to this band! I love those songs that start quite calmly and from one second to the other fucking chaos is poured upon you! Fucking love this!
For some reason, on Metal Amino, over 90% of the Top 10 2016's albums always included the same boring trash such as Hardwired, The Stage or Mark of the Blade and no one giving fucking credit to the new Katalepsy, Aborted, Nails or even this masterpiece...
Honestly, The Stage isn't bad. AN could really use some pointers regarding production from A7X.. This is loud as fuck. But I've really never got why AN never gets any recognition. They're one of the most catchy and... uh, poppy (as in a shitton of hooks in my opinion) extreme metal bands in my opinion. There's truckloads of rhythmic and melodic hooks. Rock fans in general should be eating this up like a cheesesteak.
Damn, this band rules. All the black metal fans who complain about the production or the melodic vocals are way off. No-fi recordings doesn't automatically make a band "extreme" - I appreciate that aesthetic, but it's only one approach. Plus the melodic vocals are creepy as fuck and sound like druid chanting or some shit. Awesome.
I've been all about these guys since the 1st album. It's hard for me to take any of this corpse-painted shit seriously anymore when you got two regular looking dudes with real names, who come out and lay waste to everything out there, They're gonna go down as extreme metal legends and Dave Hunt needs WAY MORE love than he gets. He can do any and every kind of metal vocals there are, even throwing in some King Diamonds now on the two most recent albums. Can you believe Decibel did a Top 30 vocalists all time back in 2015 and Hunt wasn't even on the list. Those fucking posers don't know shit from apple butter !! I about had to cancel my subscription.
MAX CURRENT YEAR. H8/∞, would fan the flames of this revolution again! J/K, but in all seriousness this album did a pretty good job of redeeming horror into tragedy.
Metal Blade Records I wish this was a print without their band name and album on it, the actual painting isn't as brutal without the darkened scheme to it, either way I dig this shit
Other than very well known blackmetal bands like Dimmu Borgir, I'm not a huge fan of hardcore blackmetal bands like this one but this album.... it's a Masterpiece !!! 10 out of 10 for me !!!
Please remember to buy this album on CD or vinyl, download via Bandcamp, iTunes, Amazon, etc. or add to your Spotify or Apple Music libraries!!!
we will ! :D thanks for sharing!
Was insta-buy anyway
Metal Blade Records Will on the 1st! Fantastic record
Thanks for the upload!
did! :)))
This shit is fucking amazing. I heard many good albums this year but I think nothing beats this. Original, hard-hitting, experimental, insane and fucking metal in all the right places. Masterpiece indeed, this band knows what they are doing.
Thane Krios that is correct, all of it is mental
=Anaal Nathrakh 🤘🤘

Of Horror and the Black Shawls is so fucking epic! Amazing album.
SWEET MARY MOTHER OF FUCK THIS ALBUM IS AMAZING
After facing (yet an other) faillure, I put the headphones on, level the volume as high as I can tolerate, and go for the full album. It's soo cathartic.
stupid. protect your fucking ears
Wow. I'm only 5 tracks in but this is fucking ridiculous, best shit I've heard in a while.
I also love that they just look like a couple of low-key computer nerds. I always respect it when bands let their music speak for them. Half the black metal bands wouldn't even come off as that dark or edgy if you didn't know what they looked like.
Man,this falsetto on Extravaganza!.Awesome!
Its sounds so damn close to King Diamond I was convinced it was a guest appearance.
It's the gumdrop from the intro to the Aqua Teen movie right?
The high pitched voices are fucking INSANE
7:32 for example
That's a bad example, they do the part at 7:32 in every album. 24:00 is a good example
every few minutes I decide to make it a bit louder
mirkin78 hmmm i know what u mean
Classic Anaal Nathrakh, happens every time haha
Free will is an illusion.
@@notexactlyrocketscience ok
Same bro. This album slays
Amazing stuff! J'aimes les gens qui repoussent les ''limites'' en musique comme dans la Vie. Un bon disque!
Definitely the best album they put out yet, " Of Horror, and the Black Shawls" is a fucking masterpiece. Twisted and brutal, yet beautiful ...
It's the symphonic metal type of song that is better than the entire black/death symphonic scene 🤪😅🤘
@@panagiotisaeonargiriou9158 Soo true, that song made my skin crawl multiple times for how epic it is.

I'll add 18:36 to your citations.
In Flagrante Delicto is surprinsingly anthemic and even a litle uplifting, for such a nightmarish album.
Awesome
I NEVER thought it would happen, but finally, an album better than either SYl's Alien or City albums. This is stunning and beautiful !
This album is just so full of amazing moments, but they can be so brief because of the intense pace. Like @ 13:54 that Post Rock-y riff amidst all the chaos gave me total goosebumps
Anaal Nathrakh - Unleash
listen it from minute 1:45 , :D kinda gives me the same vibe idk maybe its the riff in t he background.
This is AMAZING! The albums are just getting better and better with each release.
True however I did think the passion album felt a bit out of touch with the rest.
one of the greatest musical achievements in history
How it`s possible to produce each time better album than previous? This is so amazing, it would be hard to hold this high standard. Album of the year, for sure.
The bad thing is, when the first album you listened to was their newest ;)
@@mdg.steeplejack6467 well, I can say now its the good thing since October 2020!
One of the best extreme metal records of all time for me.
Best album to listen to during a global pandemic.
4:42 Holy fucking shit! \,,/
Italo Shikolay infant annihilator, is that you?
this album is like a tornado of razorblades
I hope the cosmos plays this when Earth blows up. Absolute savagery.
I hope it does too, this would be cool to have sun sing this
I can hear Emperor’s “In The Nightside Eclipse” influence ... Especially on “Of Horror, and the Black Shawls”
Certainly 1 of the 10-20 best metal band in the world. They deserve more and more.
40:20 onwards, if you don't shed a tear, you don't listen to it properly
wow...i didnt actually believe it would happen but i did shed one...or two~
released on my birthday best b-day gift ever
XTINCT ONE
The sounds of your mother giving birth

this album is such a nice surprise! faaaaar better than the previous 2 releases!
45:27 An extended guitar solo on a grindcore album??? Now I've heard everything
Its because its a cover of Iron Maiden's Powerslave :P
vestibule1443 ive heard a few on some..
HOLY SHIT
UNHOLY SUPREMACY
Wow! This shit this grabbed me by the balls, bought it after hearing one song. Fucking incredible!!!!!
I swear I hear power metal influences
Also some power metal in "A new kind of horror"
so i have just found the band and I'm in love...no words needed tbh
Jesus Christ this was too good how does someone dislike this?????
I happen to like this kind of stuff, but if you expect this to be generally well liked, then you're pretty delusional
@@davelampert2506 some of the guitar leads are insane if you let it happen to your body
Extravaganza sounds like it'd fit well in DooM, that main riff
18:41 - 19:30 replayed this multiple times just because of the absolute chills I got. Fucking amazing 😂
The Iron Maiden cover is so great ! It's how a cover has to be made !
Thank Bouguereau for that.
A great way to start the weekend ♥
This album is just fucking glorious. \m/ One of the best extreme metal albums ever! Keep it up anaal \m/
brutal
Anal! xD
Excellent work ... again. One of this year's best albums in my opinion. That cover art is also amazing. Simply,I love this whole shit.

The album is surprising its so good
Tom Ellis Whourkr is Igorrr right?
Igorrr and various members
Of horror, and the black shawls has some great Lord belial (Belial - Northern Prince of Evil) influences. Amzazing albums, both.
Seriously ? guys ?! ... I'm dead
This album got me through a lot of dental work. XD
album of the year
Payed for and listened to. I want MORE. This album SPEAKS to me!

The one who mixed this album is a god
Brutal Wicked Sound, so awesome, thanks for the upload!
the most articulately heavy-as-hell album since Strapping Young Lad's "Alien"
Just got this on vinyl (bought still sealed from a distributor, bestsellerRecordshop). This sure rocks my liver!!!!
Superb album, maybe their best.
UK BLACK METAL RADIO vanitas is better

Wow, never expected to listen to such a cool one...well, the name is to blame!

Who painted the cover / does someone know the name of the painter? This is a renaissance artwork I'm looking for
"Dante and Virgil in Hell" by William-Adolphe Bouguereau.
Awesome, thanks guys!
Metal Blade Records I wish this was a print without their band name and album on it, the actual painting isn't as brutal without the darkened scheme to it, either way I dig this shit

neoclassic, if we wish to be pedantic.

WTF... is he saying at 9:54? AGONY?
yep - "I cannot contribute anything to this world because I only have one method - agony."
thnx Lukáš :)
The best album of all time. Humanities greatest achievement. Pure fucking evil.
Brilliant. Unfortunately the cover will scare some away.
Insanely blisteringly brutally brilliant
Dave Diamond!
Glad I'm not the only one who noticed it too. It's so awesome in the track Extravaganza!
ahhahaha yees awesome addition, would be cool a duet with king diamond
Javier Barba Yes! I actually was looking online for his guest spot. Thought it was actually him!
A lot of people did, including me. Either way it's great vocal work.
hahahaah same XD
Holy shit, why did I not know about the Powerslave cover until this moment?
Do not disappoint, originals until death! ¡¡
I think i'm dead now
They have fucking killed you!
holy bleeding shit, and I thought "Desideratum" was amazing...
Holy. Shit. I always forget how hard these guys hit. And I was there when the black was first forged.
Dave Hunt is a fucking legend
