This Santana group arguably the best rhythm section in the world. Perazza Rekow Graham Lear Alfonso Johnson and Vilato . This is the best there is . No existing band has percussion of this caliber
Vilato is vicious arguably the best timbalero Santana has had fast authentic rhythm beats patterns The real deal. Saw him have incredible duels with conga master Ray Barretto in NYC Oreste Vilato is a monster of a percussionist. Arguably the best in the world.
The best timbalero was Tito Puente. Then came Orestes Vilato. Orestes been around a long time and I always looked forward to hearing him play. From Johnny Pacheco to Fania All Stars to Santana he was always among the best ever! As for Armando Peraza and Raul Rekow (RIP) - WOW! they were on top of their game. The best percussion lineup I have ever heard!
Yeah man,you are right. That team was the best and Graham Lear never gets talked about and he is great as is Michael Shrieve.I met a lot of the Santana band over the years, never Orestos but one time I met Armando walking down the street in Boston before a show.I told him it was so nice to meet him and thanked him and he was the nicest down to earth guy.Met Raul twice and he was also the sweetest guy.Always smiling and so warm and asked you questioned and really spent time with you.Partied with Alex and met Walfredo Reyes too.On that night met Carlos, who was my spiritual role model at the time and he never smiled once.SRV died 2 nights before,it was his first show and we were in Milwaukee not far from where he died,so he did not even smile the whole show,he was so bummed out. These 3 together were like no other Percussion section-just a wall of sound that was One but all over the place. The best drummer I ever saw by far, better than all the Jazz drummers even was Cozy Powell when he toured 1 tour with ELP.Did you ever hear the ROAR album?
@@lesterus1I’m from NYC I’ve seen Tito duel Vilato at the Beacon Theater and more than held his own and that was a sixty eight year old man . At the Roseland Ballroom Tito cooked Chepito in a terrific timbale duel to the finish . Many musicians were in attendance and in agreement that the King got the best of Chepito Areas
My favorite is always been the percussion & all the greats that have played for the band. Raul Rekow will always be the baddest conga player around & Jose Chepito Areas will always be tha band’s premier timbale player. Savor has always been the song witch shows the bands evolution of the greatest percussionist around good enough to play for the legendary band. Que No?
Best percussion section in any band ever as far as I can tell-this group in particular. Everyone holds 'Chepito' in high esteem-have you heard 'Abraxas Pool'? That's a great album-Santana without Carlos! I got to meet Armando once just walking down the street before a show shopping. Talked at length twice with Raul who was the nicest guy anyone could be-totally cool and laid back guy. Also met Walfredo Reyes who is an equally very nice down to earth guy. Never met Michael or Graham but they are great. The best Drummer I ever saw live was Cozy Powell with ELP!! Better than any of the Jazz Fusion or old jazz guys or Peart. Poor Raul was always smoking a damned cigarette-the world lost a happy sweet guy way too early. Jorge killed along with Jeff Beck by the Jabs and Carlos had a 'sudden Heart Surgery' and stage collapse too....
Un monstro Vilató. Gran inspiración junto con Giovanny Hidalgo, Tito P. Mark Quiñones y Edgardo Morales La parte de los cencerros desde el min. 6:40 es mágico.
Carlos can play Percussion fairly well. Usually he just plays bongos a bit but I bet his wife now is teaching him some Drums! One day we may see Cindy play Guitar and Carlos on drums!! I got to meet Armando once and Raul a bunch of times. All of them such good guys. Both of them in Heaven now.
Orestos Vilato!! Weltklasse!! Armando Perazzo!! Unvergessen!! Raul Rekow!! Die Seele von Santana!!
LOS MEJORES PERCUSIONISTAS, QUE HA TENIDO CARLITOS,

Sorry, but I think Vilato is way better than Tito Puente, just saying...

Demasiado mounstruos, demasiado
Todo suena bonito pero el sonido Santana está perdido sin José Areas. En que año fue dejado fuera por Carlos.?
Google it? Hubieron varias idas y vueltas ....
