I mean, I wouldn't call American Arcadia an 'evil Truman Show'. The Truman show was pretty damn evil in its own right. This one's just large scale. It's a great game tho, genuinely fun narrative.
American Arcadia stands out in a lot of ways as you've said, but man I want to give major props to Trevor Hill's VA. He really nails the tone of "an average guy suddenly in extraordinary and dangerous circumstances"
I think the one thing she missed when it came to the people 'On The Show' is the part where it said Arcadian born and raised citizens. The people in that dome were born there. Raised there. That is their life. It is as she said, a microcosm. It is its own world entirely separated from the outside. That is why he was so confused when he was shown that it was all a show for the people outside the dome.
1:05:50 "Why does Kovacs (Angela) have such a vested interest specifically in Hills?" You're mostly correct in that she was an activist who's looking to expose the human rights violations of AmArc and drum up more public support for shutting it down, especially now that the viewership is finally starting to lose interest. Basically, she's come across a 'weakness' and she's taking this opportunity to exploit it. There're one/two reasons why HIlls in particular: 1. Because he's the next up to 'win' the travel voucher. 2. Because he witnessed someone 'else' win the travel voucher (Gus) who he knew didn't apply for it. Imagine if she approached Gus first and told him that he was going to be killed if he took the travel voucher. He'd likely blow it off as some sort of hoax as he'd have no direct way of knowing what had happened to the four other 'winners' before him (remember, this is 'the 70's', there's no internet or social media within Arcadia for someone to look up another person's information).
Walt Disney wanted to make a City of the Future, EPCOT. I'm surprised nobody has used that setting until now, honestly, this game is really interesting to see.
Good video Wanderbots.🙂 I like the game from what was shown here and something like turning ordinary peoples' lives into a show is definitely not as out-there as most people would assume. It may not be as apparent in the US, but countries with a Royal Family, following them is a primary form of... "entertainment" for a significant number of subjects.
@@zerokura Well the most obvious parallel is the Truman Show but messed up. So I would say non-Hollywood Truman Show with a twist of a bit of a TV show here called, "Under the Dome" and a Marvel series that also explored the same concept of creating and living in a model concept city.
Exploring failed utopias is a fairly popular topic with PC games. It's a shame not many developers are willing to make a game on such topics though, for a lot of good reasons too. A lot of supposed utopia projects turned into total cesspools.
@MisterNi when I saw the different art style with the characters and how the lady is hacking into the dome system. I was thinking of the movie down sizing kind of thing. The whole going on a "vacation" makes me think of this movie where famous people get themselves clone and when the person needs a new kidney or some other organ they just kill the clone to get what they need.
The only thing that infuriates me about this game probably more than it should is the way everyone pronounces Kovacs like the "cs" sound is supposed sound like the "ch" in cheese
Heya, neighbour! I did sound really weird the way they pronounced it, but now that you brought it up, the proper pronunciation flows a lot more smoothly. The Romanian equivalent would be "Covaci". Still nowhere near as bad as what Capcom did to "Dimitrescu".
Yeah, that's pretty annoying. Would've taken 30 seconds of googling to figure out how to pronounce the name. Like Alcina Dimitrescu in Resident Evil Village, where the producers said "It's pronounced Domitresq". Domitresq my boot, if you wanted her to sound like a posh Romanian rich lady, then you could have went for 'Dimitresco". "Domitresq" isn't a name. Neither is "Kovax".
While the most grand scale plot is not particularly surprising, the game has many very cool smaller things and plot beats that I's say make it very worth experiencing. Even if not on camera would recommend you guys play it though yourselves :) Though I've seen the whole game before I would watch and highly would enjoy a video series on it. Comments, reflections, and reactions from you guys would be very interesting.
This game is amazing! So much fun to do the puzzles and experience the story. Could help myself but to finish it in 2 play sessions. (We want more! We want ...!)
They butchered the pronunciation of 'Kovacs' so badly in the game. The C and S letters are not two separate sounds but one, somewhere between 'c' and 's', but like clicking your tongue. And all 'A'-s are in fact 'Á'... even in the Arpad. It is like the 'a' sound but with a wider mouth opening. That's my amateurish take, there should be clear definitions and easily playable soundbites on the internet.
Wander do not complete a game . Story is different in the end . I ALL WAS LIKE BOTH OF THEM TALKING ABOUT THEIR OPINIONS I RECORDING WHICH IS DIFFERENT FROM OTHER CHANNELS . PLS END

I would definitely love to see you make this a series, this game is great!
It's a short game, so definitely doable!

Another instance of "yep it's definitely Yuri Lowenthal at work here"

Also it's on it's 55 session. A session is typically a year. So it's bin going on for 55 years.
Please continue playing this game I want to see the ending with you playing it.
This games story blew me away. I really hope we get a full playthrough of this, I would really like to see your commentary on the ending.

I wouldn't mind seeing more of this!
petition for wander and chell to stream this game

You know, I would argue that the Truman show was already pretty evil
awe man i wish this was a series, this game deserves so much more attention
I WANT MORE OF THESE PLEEEAAASSSEEE!!!!

Sounded like danganronpa to me.

what? are you saying it should be pronounced with "ch" in cheese, (i'll use ipa) [ˈ koʊvɑtʃ] That doesn't seem right to me, but i could be wrong
Is it not? I thought it was.

So, "Ko-Vach"?
I love that his boss was Lumbergh
The ending to this was great even if the gameplay wasn't alwas the best.

I was so distracted because I didnt know if the voice actor was the same voice actor for Peter Parker
I know am like "I recognize this voice somewhere but who?"
Yes it's yuri lowenthal also has the lead female voice actor from Firewatch
Sounds like danganronpa but everyone is normal and dont know people are watching.
Great game. I can't wait for the color commentary. My popcorn is ready
This game is amazing! So much fun to do the puzzles and experience the story.

Definitely my type of game. It makes me wish they would finish Paranoia:Happiness is Mandatory.
You should play this through.
would love to see you play though this
its a short game so it wouldn't take too long unlike other games
One of my favorite games
Oh hey I know this game
It's pretty neat
Big Brother Is Watching.
