No way did he do on purpose ! I saw him smiling and laughing , and chatted to him outside Moo`s bar in Chamonix last night, He`s 47 now and looks 30, unreal, down to earth nice guy.
Sonata727 pretty sure they said he was fine and uninjured idk where you got that and I'd say it's pretty legendary that dude sent a huge cliff and is still around to talk about it
I was an avid skier, instructor, and loved skiing all over the world, but you wouldn't catch me risking my life like that, not even for the mega-bucks that Red Bull pays! I love life too much!
Billy Bob Beer Drinker this wasn't planned you dip fuck. Once he was at the drop in of the cliff why would they try to get an angle for the cameras instead of making sure he survived? Learn how these things work before you talk shit about these people
So doing some basic calculations based on an 107m height (and given that I don't his initial vertical speed), he'd have been going well over 100mph (Probably got to terminal velocity) once he hit the snow and would have been in the air for up to 5 seconds. Was probably the longest few seconds of his live.
I fell off the the rope climb thing about 50 cm up and fracture my ankle he however falls of a 105 m cliff without a scratch. I call hacks Jk it’s good that your still alive
Chris Miller He jumped off the wrong cliff = THAT jump wasn't intentional. Yes his intention was to jump, somewhere else. Stop being so damn pedantic, you seem really bored.
Man what a bummer that they didn't get the real money shot! If they knew it was coming swing out to a angle to capture the footage. Still pretty insane though, super gnarly. Lol Thank god he came out pretty much ok.
You really need to respect people like this. They do things that other people consider foolish and stupid because it's what they love to do. They shove society aside to make the most out of their lives and be happy, and I'd say that they live more than 99% of the people in the world.
He was trying to break the record, but just not off that particular spot, still the cameraman choked super hard by not getting that shot. Fred (upon being dug out): Hey man, you get the shot! That was huge! Cameraman: Naw dude I missed it, my b. Fred: Are you freaking kidding me? Its not like I'm gona hit that again! Cameraman: yeah sorry bro Fred: You missed the shot of a three-hundred fifty foot cliff drop??!
I don't understand where he was supposed to go, the whole area was a cliff face. What was his original line supposed to be? I also don't understand why he didn't have a "scratch" but was interviewed in a hospital bed. Videos with a gaping hole in the narrative are annoying.
his adrenaline could easily mask any sudden pains from stuff like internal bleeding. besides nobody is gonna just walk that off without going to hospital lmao
I think he knew exactly where he was going, in the video they say when they were telling him his line he seemed out of it thats cause he already knew his line and they had to tell him to go 3 times cause he was second geussing what he was planing on doing and scared shitless about what he was about to do but i think he defenetly planed that drop you dont just pic a wrong line and shoot perfectly off a 350footer by acident.
@Bidon45 I thought the same thing, however, most huge jumps are planned with cameras positioned for optimal effect. Look carefully and you can see a puff of snow as he lands at 4:59. He launched at 4:55 for approximately a 4 second freefall. Accelerating at 10m/s/s means he falls roughly 10 meters the first second, 20m in second #2, 30m during 3rd second and 40m during the 4th second. 10+20+30+40 = 100m = 333 feet. I trust their calculation more than this very rough demonstration in physics.
Too bad the helicopter was at the wrong angle. But damn!!! that's the craziest jump I've ever seen! Interesting, once he realised where he was heading, he just went for it full speed. Not the slightest attempt at slowing down!
This guy did this on purpose. There was no reason for him to be going that far skiiers right. Not to mention they had to tell him three times that the camera was rolling. This guy was saying his last goodbyes. Thats my take anyway.
I don't doubt the math these guys did, but in a video I saw of some guys setting other records for dropping like.. 250 feet, much smaller than this, the cliffs they went off of seemed a lot higher than this one..
If it wasn't to be on film, would he have still done it? Sometimes people pay the ultimate price just to show off what they think they can do and hope to come out in one piece. Takes all kinds.
Please retitle to: the 352 ski fall with a pilot that stays directly above the skier the whole video for some terrible shots until the jump where he decides to use the cliff edge to block the entire fall.
Over 100 m wtf. He is probably the only human that ever survived such drop without parachute! Even if the snow saved his live....imagine falling into water from 100 m. It still is going to hurt like hell or might even kill you.
@kevingrace I already said this before but when they saw where he was going they should have FOLLOWED HIM not went the other way....I don't care where he went off the camera should have been following him the entire time.
I followed the cliff all the way down to the second chute.... no mistake. I stopped at the top because I wanted to get in the “just jump it” mood. It was really not steep and was very slow, i meant to ride out, not crater. This wasnt even a big deal, before I jumped it I thought this would be around 100ft... I still think it was.
Perfectly sane people do perfectly insane things sometimes when their passion takes over. i think he knew there was a chance he would survive, and wanted to take that record away from jamie pierre.
I think most of you missed the part about that wasnt where he intended to jump from, pilot/filmcrew were cought off guard
Jake McCoy is right but I am going to add this because it was recorded 11 years ago
"107 meters fall, and not a scratch..."
Then why's he being interviewed in a hospital bed?
To check if he has a scratch?
I think he got some breathing problems after he got buried in the snow, so they took a sort of routine check in the hospital.

If he was not going so fast he wold not have made it so far out from the cliff and it would have ended really bad.
that is chilling. i couldnt imagine the panic he must have felt right as he saw the cliff edge
Dude imagine the oh shit moment
I've had some like that XD
Too bad he wasn't wearing a gopro

352 feet of impact? The snow helps but damn that guys a legend.
thatkidfromnh a legend? he just skied off a cliff and injured himself, he did nothing else but that how does that make someone a legend.

Cool story bro, maybe you should post it on some other vids so that everyone knows you're safe
Why wouldn't you have a ground camera for when the guy in the air fuckes up.
Greatest jump I never saw.

Actually you never saw it
This guy didn't had plans for breaking a world record, he just did his warmup run, and got lost..
"This is me brahing out brah." Like molly amd love brah.

The way he jumps off that cliff with all the confidence in the world ;-)
I want to see the film of the guy filming the guy, filming the guy, filming the guy. And completely block out the whole reason why they were there.
Great cam work...
my heart was pounding while watching this...... Thriller movies aint got nothing on this dude.
ONE WORD: INSANE!!!
Respect for this man.

Ok, that was funny. But you are well now, good.
Horrible pilot. He missed the entire jump (fall)...
skibumwa2001 they had to tell the skier they were filming 3 times. if the went on time I'm sure the shot would have been proper
dude, it wasn't fucking an intentional jump - he took the wrong route & fell of the cliff
It was an intentional jump, he just jumped from the wrong part of the cliff.
