Chao were first introduced into the sonic universe in 1999 with the release of sonic adventure on the sega dreamcast. Since then they have been featured in MANY other sonic games with roles that are often very different from game to game. In this vide I am going to be showing you every single chao appearance within an official sonic the hedgehog game. This does not include non-game appearances such as tv shows or comics. I might one day cover those though, let me know if that is something you'd be interested in :)

Murder of sonic the hedgehog also has the big chao band, a group of chao in a jazz band. They can even play you some music, theyre precious!
In Phantasy Star online episode I & II on GameCube, there's an Easter egg chao appearance in one of the missions called, "the fake in yellow". Using the Gameboy machine, you can transfer a legit Tails Chao to a sonic adventure game. (The only official way to unlock the Tails character Chao in the West)

Fun fact: that jewel chao necklace is a real item. It comes from the sonic team and kingice collaboration, and you can still buy one! ... it's 150 dollars, but it IS real gold and "diamond simulate". They also have other designs, likea dark chao and some sonic characters.

28:07 I like the idea that Chao evolved to be as cute as possible just so other species can take care of them.
I would add these extra tidbits to the following games:
SADX: Cream and Cheese have a small cameo flying around the overworld, sometimes the camera follows them for a bit
Advance 3: because of the pair mechanic, the other characters can team up with Cream and their special ability makes Cheese turn into the character's color in order to start wreaking havoc (blue for Sonic and so on)

Okay, I have to correct myself. I went through every cutscene in Shadow and couldn't find that specific moment (only one slightly close). So... they went out of their way to make an HD Image of Maria getting shot. Wow.

The beauty of Chao is incredible, those creatures are adorable and at the same time badly suffered, cute creatures that have tragic pasts are the best way to create a poetic and touching story! That's also why Sonic stories are so touching, because despite the shōnen side characters have in their look, design and personality, they have also a cute side, they're adorable to watch, that's why it's even sadder when they suffer.
The Minecraft bit goes farther than what you shown. In the separately-sold texture pack, Chao replace certain other mobs. The wandering trader NPC is replaced by the Black Market Chao and his llamas are replaced by the weird green half-fish creature floating in the air via balloon, pulling a wagon full of merchandise.
The Sniffer mob is reskinned into some weird primordial quadrupedal Chao with Chaos-like bits on it.
Cleric Villagers wear Chao-themed robes.
Allays are just straight-up replaced with neutral Chao
the Vex mobs are also replaced with dark Chao
Vexes are also replaced with Dark Chao
And there was also the HiveMC Collab which had a Black Market and more Chao
minor corrections:
As another user mentioned, Chao make a cameo in Phantasy Star Online episode 1 and 2 for GameCube (it's one of the only ways to get the tails Chao.)
Cream is playable in Sonic Battle and uses Cheese the Chao in some attacks.
(also not really a correction, but Gamefam who created Sonic Speed Simulator have been known to underpay and overwork their employees, so I probably wouldn't recommend sonic speed simulator.......)

I love playing as Chao in Mechs using Mods in Sonic Adventure. I swear they're so much fun to play as and I just love raising the 3 variants of Chaos Chao too (Angel Devil and Neutral Chaos) along with the Sonic Chao.
I'm not sure if i missed it in the video. But, Tails can still drown in the DC version of SA2's hero garden.
I love that Sonic Chronicles had so many unique designs and types for Chao. My favorite Chao in the team was called "Joy" which gave a free heal to the whole party at the start of the turn and was super helpful for HP sustain in boss battles. Spartoi was an instant KO Chao and was super helpful to use when grinding. Ovus is another unique Chao with a special style, too!
Overall, super comprehensive overview of Chao in games. Hopefully we see a more prominent role of the Garden come out. I'd love to see Chao Modding on a more current and modern system, with more detailed models that we currently have.

Im not sure how a standalone game of Chao Garden would work, I think SA2 had the best garden, and it should be improved along with a newer SA3

They even feature a unique Creeper Chao. Creepers are an enemy from Minecraft that explodes if attacked or gets too close to you.
I guess those Chao were able to befriend a Creeper at some point without it getting bad.

Is that an updated rouge chao in the intro? If so, i honestly like it better than the regular rouge chao. Rouge has big ears and her motif is hearts, so this chao fits her better, imo. Her other chao self looked too much like a knuckles chao. Didnt fit her as well.
Edit: Saw the full video. Apparently thats the design of the official rouge chao. Very cool!

Wow. My knowledge of Chao's basically ends with SA2 and Dreamcast with VMU's (still have my Dreamcast and VMU's), crazy how much Chao's have expanded in the last 23 years.

Now thinking about it, Chaos evolved from Chao and the Ancients evolved into Chao. So in a way we could count Chaos appearances as Chao appearances.

Great video, but it's criminal that you didn't talk more about Sonic Advance 3. If you have Cream as your partner, each character gets their own Chao with a unique look and attack.

i love Chao, been raising them over 21 years, mainly sonic adventure 2, we keep registers of the gardens , the chao, their stats. I love them. I love Nightopians as well, Mario Toads, Lumas, Noki in Mario sunshine, Viva Pinata. We were looking forward to Poglings which look like chao and are similar game wise but we have heard nothing more for a couple of months. still we have our Chao from Game cube, our oldest chao is 8 and we're trying to get him all S stats.

It is Omochao who’s talking. Even then, Sonic Heroes and the Dreamcast Memory Card minigames does establish that they can speak full Human/anthro/mobian sentences. (I will always call the anthro characters Mobians, fight me!)

They aren’t the only ones.
Metal Sonic and Metal Sonic 3.0 also has Chao based moves. These Chao would steal other opponents items. The only thing they can’t steal is any form of boosts unless they are in the trap and projectile slots.
Also, dead? I tend to see players all the time when I play the game. I never have seen bots before aside from Challenger bots.

Actually, Chocola never appears in Archie. He exists in Archie as he was mentioned twice in both Pre-reboot and post reboot Archie. But never made a physical appearance in the comics until IDW.
The Sonic Generations and the future Sonic Heroes remake will have Chao in them as well
I love these adorable creatures, I would spend hours playing sonic adventure 1 and 2 collecting animals and evolving the chao. Chao are absolutely adorable!!!!

@@Choa also following this, Unleashed also came out for the Wii after the PS3 and 360 and after fans giving it some criticism over the earlier ports, SEGA actually much improved the game. I very dislike the 360 version, but the Wii Version was a lot of fun!

Some mistakes in your video are Sonic Adventure releasing December 1998 in Japan. Chao Walker being unlockable on Dreamcast, Big in Eggman's mech would be replaced by Dark Chao Walker in all later ports with both Chao Mechs being available from the start on GameCube. Sonic Advance 2 came out December 2002 in Japan as well. The Chao Eggs in the Sonic Pinball Table can hatch & evolve as part of your gameplay. Adventure DX also got a PC Version which wasn't as good as what was on GameCube. Cream & Cheese appear in Sonic Battle as well.
You forgot Phantasy Star Online Episode 1&2 which featured Chao as a type of Mag in addition to the famous Tails Chao Mission. Chao also appear in Sonic X with Episode 22 having a hidden Chao Garden.
