The band themselves have said they would only ever consider it with a female vocalist. I think they would feel too weird with anyone trying to sound too much like Peter as a man. Remember he was their friend more than their singer. I don't blame them, but I also think this guy's is a good ringer for the vocal tone.

We all knew Peter better then most musicians. His sadness and romantic depression was released in every word, unbound, for us. He loved us be cause we loved him. He was almost 7 foot tall with boots on and I got to meet him. He made a 5'10' me look like a child under his armpit. He actually made a joke about his armpit smell when he put his arm around my shoulder for photo. Peter was shy, clearly insecure, oddly dominating a room and with all of the pretty girls in that room he chose me to speak with in the corner. Me. A nobody who was too intimidated to speak to him but smiling and really choked up when he asked why I was in his corner, lol. Peter also spoke with a heavier red haired girl a long time because of how she clearly was the odd one in the room with all of the model girls. Peter knew peoples fear and sadness when he met you. You knew it. I can't tell you any more because I can't say it in words, but his hands were giant and eyes were like coal but he was as soft as you could imagine, and told jokes to make his own social anxiety better. He smelled like alcohol seemed very sober. Peter gave me his green pick from the night and also his guitar strap that broke that night. It is actually just two mens belts connected together because he said he needs custom extra long guitar straps made. He began using a chain strap after that night I believe. Peter was really good at making things. We talked about muscle cars, his musical inspirations, and lastly we discussed his dislike of touring but the love of seeing people like his music live. This was 1994. It was like yesterday. RIP Green Man.
