  • After the NemID video, we had a lot of questions about what we thought about other elements of Digital Denmark. So this Tuesday we share our thoughts on Betalingsservice, e-Boks, and Mobilepay. We compare how each is or isn't addressed in the US and what we think about them here in Denmark.

If this video is a part 2 of the tv2 play appearance (which is pay-only), please do not call it "part 2", since many users then will search for "part 1" on youtube, and never find it.
Many youtubers does that, and it is quite annoying.

e-Boks is not only used for email, it can also be used as a repository for your really important documents. It does not provide unlimited space, so forget about storing cat videos, but it's good for keeping copies of things like contracts and certificates and other documents that you want to keep even if something bad happens to your local copy.

Hi - love your channel. You seem like lovely and genuine people. Here's a suggestion for Try It On Tuesday when we get some warm weather again: Koldskål - a Danish favourite on a warm summer's day. It's also simple: you buy 1 liter of koldskål (find it next to milk in the supermarket - and choose Arla's with tykmælk and eggs (my personal favourite when I don't make it from scratch with buttermilk)) and a bag of Kammerjunkere (a crunchy bisquit kind of cake). Take a bowl, pour some koldskål, add kammerjunkere and enjoy. There are two "schools": either you add the kammerjunkere whole or you crush them into the bowl. In summer you might also add slices of fresh strawberries. A simple refreshment on a hot day. Velbekomme from a fan. 👍😊

Denmark was actually late with mobile pay. The reason is that transferring money from on bank account to another (even in a different bank) is easy and free.. and have been for 20+ years.
So the need for something like mobile pay was a lot less.
In east Africa they started having a Mobil pay system using SMS like 5 years before Mobil pay was implemented in Denmark.

Since we have gotten so digitaliesed here in DK, the Postal Service is struggling. Before you knew that there was aprox 90% chance that a letter was delivered next day and the price for a normal letter was 4-5 kr, so under a dollar. Now it takes up to 5 days (sometimes even more) and costs 11 kr, so just under 2 dollar.

Dunno if you have been suggested this before, but now that we are getting closer to summer, maybe you should try out "Koldskål", literally meaning cold bowl (I believe its called cold buttermilk soup in english). It is very popular in the summer half-year and is often eaten and served in a bowl with these small sweet rusks called "kammerjunker", which literally translates to an old court titel of a person ranking just below the chamberlain.
    ...
Some also eat it with strawberries, which is a newer trend or it can even be enjoyed pure as a beverage.
But no matter the way you consume it has to be served well chilled and enjoyed on a sunny day ;)
Its mostly used as a desert or snack.
Note that there typically are two variants, a lemon style (which is more sour in the taste) and one that says Tykmælk og Æg (Junket? and egg), which is a bit more creamy and thick in its consistency.

You also do not need to put your initials and the date on every page. Having bought a house and refinanced multiple times in the US, I fully understand why you might worry. Holy cow! I have been wanting to recommend Tønder Festival for quite some time. Then yesterday I saw an episode with Josh in a windbreaker with the Tønder Festival logo and now you tell us, that you go every year? I grew up in Tønder and worked as a volounteer every festival from the age of 17 to my early forties. But I digress ..
Did you ever taste the pride of Sønderjylland: 'kaffepuns' and 'solæg'? Kaffepuns is coffee, 'Rød Ålborg' aquavit and heaps of sugar. Solæg is really hardboiled eggs (14 mins) lightly cracked and pickled for 2-4 weeks in brine. Peel, cut in halves, scoop out the yolks. Then fill the cavity with oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, mustard and Tabasco sauce before putting back the yolks, eating it and washing it down with a shot of snaps. Classic bar snack and a most brilliant idea for a 'try it on Tuesday'. Maybe in the last weekend of August, where the Tønder Festival was supposed to take place?
If you want recipes, feel free to ask. Or wait another year and get your snacks at the 'Fanø Telt' where it doesn't get any more authentic!

The latter should be available in most supermarkets, while the former might require a bit of searching for a proper micro-brew section.

'Great Prayer Day' is a very Danish thing
The King (around reformation) thought everybody spent too much time praying and attend masses for all kind of saints
So he made a law that all these religious prayers should be performed one day only (3weeks after easter friday)
On that day - nobody were allowed to work - not even the bakers
To get the 'daily bread' - the bakers the evening before (before the church bells rang for the evening) they made half baken wheat breads to take home and finish baking next morning
The great prayer day is the only holiday written into law in Denmark

However, one thing when it comes to bills, you can have your bills automatic paid like a Auto-giro thing at the nettbank, and as long as you have money at your account it pays the bill to you stop.
The downside about it is that there have been found dead people in appartments that have been dead for a long time but because their bills are being paid nobody reacts. Especially old people who recieve their pension.

The next generation of digital mail/e-boks is right around the corner and gives it a bunch of upgrades. There will be a few new features to highlight important information, so if you get a letter with an appointment to the hospital, it can headline the date and time right in the inbox, so you don't have to read the letter again, it can headline links to book appointments etc.
The really clever things are on the business side however. They will add a bunch of meta data to the digital mail that will allow things like automatic filing. So if say the municipality writes a digital mail to Company X, they can add meta data to tell company X which local branch it's meant for, which citizen it's regarding and keywords to what's in the letter, so the IT system that receives it can automatically file it correctly and just notify the responsible employee, that a letter has been received.
It has the potential to save so much time and eliminate even more of the unsecure communication that still goes on.

Danes don't send "papirbreve" any more and when we get a "papirbrev" it is normally coming from abroad. Some find it is a great loss because "papirbreve" are more personal.
