    Walking into an arcade back in the day was so intoxicating for a little kid's senses. To have a surplus of quarters was to be a king.

    My favorite Data East games are Atomic Runner and Windjammers. They had a lot of other great games, though. it seemed for a short while they were going to be sorta the halfway indie/halfway big budget games production house when it came to arcade games...and then Street Fighter II happened.
    I feel like Street Fighter II did to arcade games what Nirvana did to the rock scene...it drastically changed the landscape and expectations so much that it killed half the mainstays in the scene overnight.

    • @MixMasterLar
      @MixMasterLar 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pretty good comparison.
      Personally my favorite Data East game is the NES port of Cobra Command.

      @@thealtered7 There was but it wasn't... that. The setting of this game just seems like a bad Japanese Greyhawk rip-off, or like a bargain bin Record of Lodoss War. Honestly I don't get why the game claims it's set in 4th Century Gaul given how obviously it isn't. It's like if the in-game text in Megaman X claimed it was set in the Weimar Republic.

    This is one of my favorite arcade games! I remember i'd always play this or Knights Of The Round cause i'm a HUGE King Arthur knights kinda guy. I felt this game was pretty fair as well. Once you get good at it, you didn't need to use so many quarters. I had a friend who was able to beat it for a dollar! I was never that good, but that also wasn't a very hard thing to do if you knew the game. He swore by the knight character, but I liked switching it up.

    Hey Snes Drunk, since you started doing Arcade games, why not look into a video for UnderCover Cops arcade? its a big step up from its Super Famicom counterpart and a sequel on the Gameboy included a comic book that gave a more fleshed out story which would make for a interesting talking point.

    Gate of Doom was one of my favorite arcade games and I didn't even know there was a sequel until it became available for the Switch on the Nintendo eShop, along with Gate of Doom itself. Of course I had to get them both immediately.
    Also, Johnny Turbo's Arcade, who ported Gate of Doom and Wizard Fire to the Switch, apparently ported a bunch of other Data East games there, like freaking Night Slashers, for one, so might be worth just looking up Johnny Turbo's Arcade on the eShop or wherever...

      Data East: the only company that Capcom ever sued for copying too much from Street Fighter 2 with their Fighters History game! (imho compared to all the other SF2 clones of the era it really wasn't that bad. The Judo girl Ryoko was actually really original and had some pretty unique moves)
      BIG TORNADO

  • @Eradose

    This game is also on the My Arcade Data East Hits Mini Player, along with Dark Seal, which is how I played it. The problem is 1: you can only play single player since there's only one set of controls, and 2: the aspect ratio is stretched due to the screen they used on it (Nitro Ball and Burgertime seem to suffer the worse from it), with no way to fix it (unlike the Namco Arcade Collection Mini Player). But for a playable scale arcade machine (about 1/10th scale), it's fine, and at least it's the arcade rom (most of My Arcade's micro players use NES roms, with the exception of Contra, Space Invaders, Pac Man 40th, and the upcoming Street Fighter II Champion Edition).
