The best part of this game is that every level you’ll be introduced to new game play mechanics, instead most platform game just changing the theme. What the game probably suffered most from is that is got released far into the lifespan on the SNES. So very few people have a nostalgia factor playing.
As someone who grew up with the Genesis, sometimes I think kids who grew up with SNES just didn't fully appreciate the beautiful array of colors games like Prehistorik Man brought to the table.
Oh I always appreciated it! I grew up with a SNES and anytime I played a Genesis everything always felt much darker colour wise. I was also never a fan of the Genesis sound chip, I loved the range the SNES had, especially with RPGs
This was one of my favorite games as a kid. I remember the bright colors on the box when renting it from video review. Eventually when they closed I remember buying the game with the box. Such a great game
I've always loved this game growing up, the characters actually go a little deeper than what he brought out, the scientists invents different tools for you to use, the one with the hat informs you about different enemies in the area, so they each have a purpose in how they help you, its actually really awesome the way it feels like an actual adventure, and you feel like the other characters really do join you, it is flawed but its actually a lot of fun.
I think you’re right. This video has a compilation of every yell from that cartoon, and I’m certain it’s the one just after 1:09 th-cam.com/video/Yqbl2QIYDPg/w-d-xo.html
As soon as I saw the shout attack I knew I'd played this game before, that was the trigger that jogged my memory 😁 I remember playing this when Top Gear and the soccer games were already rented, I live in Brazil and those were the most popular games here 😃
I love this game, for me one of the best titles Titus developed for the SNES. And it's counterpart on the Original Gameboy is without a doubt one of the best looking games the platform had to offer, very impressive technically and with an awesome soundtrack!
It's more than halfway decent game. Give it a chance on the SNES online - I grew up with this game and I feel like Drunk is a little biased. But still a really good review.

I honestly can't think of a single thing that Joe & Mac do better than Prehistoric Man except for the co-op mode. Better graphics, animations, music, variety in and size of levels, it's not even close.
Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap in Prehistorik Man, by AC/BC. The actual game looks pretty solid, but I rarely want to play platformers like this, and euro platformers tend to have that slippery movement and floaty jumping so it all feels imprecise.
This kind of crap happened a lot in 16-bit games. Chuck Rock says "unga bunga" in a very Captain Caveman-like voice, and I'm pretty sure they lifted a "d'oh!" from Homer Simpson when you beat enemies in Wonder Dog, its Sega CD cousin.
Boring but probably real answer: because it's a multiple of 8. Computers store things in multiples of 8 regardless of how much actually needs storing, so using something that wasn't a multiple of 8 wasted limited storage space.
When I was a kid this was one of the games that made me feel like I was “playing a cartoon.” I usually got that feeling from Genesis Disnep games like Mickey Mania and Aladdin. tbh - there is nothing in gems and jewels that make them appropriate to be currency. It's just something we decided on as humans. Gems can at least be used as tools and material for stuff.

Yeah, this game is actually really good. I do think you are way too hard on it - but at least you point out some real flaws that do exist in the game, like some of item-platforming levels. One thing that "ruined" the game for me is that you actually get 4 bones from enemies if you defeat them via jumping on them - which made me use the club less. I do think the club is kinda awesome in this game, it feels good when you start hitting on an enemy - so there to be an incentive to not use it is boring. I think it is same with the weapons - they are all amazing, but you get less bones again. Still, that's just a thing that's up to the player to decide if they want to use or not. IGAvanias have the same flaw.
All the different gameplay mechanics / level design gimmicks remind me (for better or worse) of Earthworm Jim. Also those icebergs heaving in the water look legitimately fantastic!
I remember Prehistoric 2 being very unique and fun back in the day, the original Prehistoric was a bit on the generic side and although I never got around to playing this one, it seems like a mix of those two.
I just recently played this game for the first time....on the Evercade (Interplay Collection 2). I thought it was pretty decent on the little handheld, with the various save states helping get though the game.
The game is beautiful and I would've probably fallen in love with it as a kid. And I actually have fallen in love with the Game Boy version, due to its killer soundtrack, graphics and effects made by demosceners. Haven't even played it it much, it's just pretty to see.
Pfft...The box shows a prehistoric caveman wearing sunglasses and leaning on a wooden club. All jokes aside, the graphics and animations are pretty damn nice looking for a game I never even wanted to try. This is literally the 1st time I've ever seen gameplay footage for this game. P.S. When I was in 7th or 8th grade, going through my AC/DC phase, I thought the lyrics to the chorus of "Dirty Deeds" was "Dirty deeds and the Thunder Chief"...I didn't know what it meant, but it sounded awesome.
Hi Snnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnesdrunk, this is actually the SNES version of Prehistorik 2. I am not sure whether the game would qualify as a "port" or "remake" nowadays, given how wildly versions of a same game would differ depending on the hardware back then.
There's also a Prehistorik Man on the Game Boy, although it's a separate adventure. I can't say that it's a great game (it's certainly less forgiving), but it's probably the best-looking game on the Game Boy, complete with parallax backgrounds.
One of the games I haven't seen on here yet are the Star Trek TNG games. Would love to see you cover those. Love the channel by the way. It's a great trip down memory lane and is just really chill and relaxing to listen to.
The shout is an actual Tom & Jerry sample! Recorded by William Hanna himself in the 40s.
I totally picked up on that too! You can just hear it right away ❤️
