    Miter Shears- this pair is highly rated and has replaceable blades

    Heat gun- I use mine to quickly dry paint, soften the glue to dismantle furniture and quickly cure polymer clay without an oven. Gets a lot hotter than a hair dryer.

    Craft heat gun that doesn't get as hot as mine

    Watch me turn a cheap $1 dresser from the Dollar Tree into an antique apothecary cabinet. Entirely scratch built! I really love how this turned out. I will definitely be doing more Dollar Tree furniture flips. This is my favorite furniture makeover so far. I will likely build a room box around it (maybe with a Harry Potter theme...)
    I have been toiling away learning how to film and edit videos for TH-cam. I have lots of projects planned ranging from abandoned miniatures to sculpted clay animals and Dollhouse Miniatures in multiple scales. I also have a large Harry Potter build planned for 1" scale.
    Please Like, Comment & Subscribe to support my efforts and so you don't miss out on future videos.
    Thank you,

    Once again l love what you have done but the 'open drawer' trick - wow! It makes such a difference! A lot of dolls houses /miniature diaromas look beautiful but staged whereas yours somehow give the impression that either someone just left the room or that the room has somehow become abandoned. I hope you do build some kind of room design around this amazing makeover. ❤❤❤

    That turned out really cute. I like the way you add the pastel color over the paint to give it the depth of being old/antique. You were asking about where that piece can be used. Love those apothecary cabinets. My chiropractor is Chinese, told me about how as a child his mother took him to an old wise man with row upon row of bottles and potions and drawers, the guy looked at his tongue, put together a concoction for his mother to administer. It's quite fascinating, their medicinal knowledge goes back centuries and is something we shouldn't lose or dismiss as witchcraft or unscientific. Other fascinating pieces of furniture to me anyway, are the desks that architects use with all those shallow drawers for writing and drawing implements. They may have tops that tilt up as well to create an angle.
    I saw another miniaturist modify dollar store items multiple ways, might have been Real Life Dollhouse Miniatures, but I'm not sure. I think she used medicine capsules, either from meds from the Dollar store that were dumped out, or empty capsules you can buy. She cut off the rounded ends, sliced those in half to make half moon drawer pulls and painted them like metal . But they dissolve in water, right? So you'd need to be careful not to get them too wet. I think it's just ingenious how people use tiny bits for other purposes.

    • @queencityminis
      @queencityminis  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think I remember seeing that video about a year ago. That's a good point about them being water soluble. I never thought of that.
      I thought the clay cup pulls were easy to make and the extra steps could be excluded. Even just sharing one at the end of a Popsicle stick and painting it would look great. I just always have to add one more thing...

    • @recoveringsoul755
      @recoveringsoul755 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@queencityminis yeah I didn't think about the Water dissolve thing until I wrote the comment to you. I was thinking they were plastic when I saw the video, but they'd never dissolve if they were plastic. Not sure what I was thinking... d'uh

    • @DawnDavidson
      @DawnDavidson 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@queencityminisI think what she is suggesting is that you post links to the materials that you use, and create a master list of those things, so people can know what to get if they want to recreate or imitate a project. You could maybe post it in the main information on your channel, so it’s easy to find.
      If you have a business Amazon account, you can also create affiliate links to products that you use (or similar to what you use) that other folks can buy. And when they do that, you’ll get a tiny amount of their purchase price sent to you, at no extra cost to them.
      Another way that you could leverage Amazon to support your work would be to create your own wishlist for your minis. Then people could buy you things that you’d like to have off the list. If I were you, I might start with some nice paint that’s not that one blue color. 😂 On a full size furniture restoring channel I watch (Mad City Modern), he will stick name labels (often first name only) on the products that people buy for him, so people can see their gifts being used. Your products are pretty small and the labels might be hard for us to see, but you could probably just say something like “thanks to Susie for getting me this paint” whenever you use it. It’s a nice way to feel a sense of community and connection to a creator.
      You are great at repurposing or recycling things, so you may not actually need a lot, but sometimes there are things you’d love to have but you don’t feel you can afford. There are people who can afford it (not me! 😂) who would love to support your work this way. You might have a wishlist item of a 3D printer and supplies for it, for instance. Or a new heat gun, or a Cricut, or whatever.
      Hope all of that helps to give you an idea of what the other poster might have meant, and ways that you can both help others out with information, and support your channel through affiliate links and indirect donations as well. 😊

      When I bake in the oven, I tent foil over the top just in case. For small items, I almost always bake them with my heat gun. For the Witch's Cottage, I did bake all those mushrooms and pots etc bc there were so many of them.

    Your amazing at this stuff. I have a $ Tree China Cabinet I am new at minis. I am hoping you can help me. This like the dresser is non functional. Your right you get what you pay for. After a tedious amount of work I managed to get the doors off. I've sanded the rough spots smooth. My issue is I have NO idea how to make the doors functional. Somebody in my doll house mini group said it can be done with pins...
    Do you know how to do this ? I'd be ever so grateful if you could help me.
    What's the point of having a china cabinet that you can't put anything in. I honestly had no.idea when I purchased it that the doors would not open.. I look forward to any help you may lend me.
    BTW I ♡ the ideas you come up with. Just wish you didn't make it look so darn easy..... teehee !

      @@queencityminis I'm looking at it now I ♡ Julie as well. That a really nice fancy cabinet with one door. My $ Tree cabinet has two doors & are so thin I think that method would end up cracking them to bits.
      I know separating doors from cabinet had to have thinned them a bit more. I had no idea about the microwave thing until.I saw your video today.. I just kept running my craft knife blade lightly scoring each side & it felt like a lifetime. The edges I sanded with fine paper so wood won't cause slivers. Its $ tree wood its thin & cheap. I think there was more glue in weight than actual wood.

    • @tammybedder8502
      @tammybedder8502 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@queencityminis I just got to the Painting part. She has a frame she'll add around the door. I'd need two plus her door isn't paper thin. I may have to just leave the china cabinet without doors. I had a recent freak accident it burned the retina out of my left eye & I cannot see out of it at all.. My other eye has about 30% vision at best. So it makes things a little bit more difficult not that it wasnt before my injury..... I really just want to finish some projects before I'm not able to see at all. I guess you could call it "My bucket list project must complete asap"

    I love the idea of using a silicone cup and heat gun to cure small polymer clay pieces. Is your heat gun an embossing gun (craft store) or a paint stripper gun (hardware store)? I live in Texas and will only turn on the oven for about 3 months of the year. 😁🌞

    • @queencityminis
      @queencityminis  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Haha! I bet! I can't imagine living in Texas. I'm hoping to go to the Dallas Miniature Show so maybe I'll experience that heat firsthand.
      I use a Milwaukee paint stripper heat gun. My fiance gave it to me and it is a game changer. I use it all the time. I dry paint with it, cure clay, loosen the glue on miniature furniture to take it apart etc.

      You can do it! I know not everyone can find this dresser but keep in mind that it has a very simple shape. You could make this dresser using cardboard and popsicle sticks. Bentley House Minis has great tutorials for using cardboard to make furniture. The key is filling the corrugated holes with wood filler to give yourself smooth edges.

Near the end, when you said you were beginning to think about making a shadow box around it, I don't know why, but the angle I saw with the "open" drawers made me think of a card catalog. I'm not saying to use that as one, but I actually AM wondering if there's a piece you could turn into a card catalog and have some books on shelves, a chair, lamp and plants, a desk....you know, something like that?

In part 2, I filled it with furniture and lots of handmade accessories. It was so much fun. I haven't counted but there have to be 20 or 30 tutorials in that video and they're all simple and easy. I made stacks of books, scrolls, candles, a crystal gazing ball, shelves, a hanging witch's robe, dried herbs, a little bird's nest tucked behind a shutter...so much fun
