    thank you for explanation! I also prepare my first modular album. Although it's not eurorack one, only VCV Rack in the game...but I've just realized how modular style of making music change my mind, that's awesome!

    Thank you for these detailed patch videos, really makes me inspired to make music. I've only been into eurorack for about 6 months (besides vcvrack) but this type of video has made it within reach, thank you for that!!! Cheers

    Any recommendations for Hindustani music? I'm already into drone and atonal music, so I'm interested :)

      For me, Hariprasad Chaurasia is pretty much everything. I have a recording of Raga Patdip that sums up all of life for me.

    2:27 okay thats an awesome way to use Arc. Ive been seriously considering getting an ansible module and Arc just for the levels and cycles apps. Plus there is so much stuff you can do with Ableton devices too. I cant find Arc anywhere, so ill definitely have to jump on the next edition that comes out. Also have you thought of Mutable Instruments Warps? That module turns my Mother 32 oscillator into an alien walmart scooter I swear to god. Like Analog Serum. So much weird waveshaping.
    8:49 Alex Grey heck yes
    Also I agree Eurorack Modular helps me to get back to the moment as 99% of the time im always thinking about the past and future, usually in negative ways honestly. Its such a cool flow-ey way to make music that is always full of surprises. Also is your album gonna be on Seil Records? That will get you on casette for sure!

    • @Lightbath
      @Lightbath  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha! alien walmart scooter - lol. I do have Warps, but haven't used it much. I totally need to get into it more once I mount my Submodular cases on the wall (there's no table space in the studio for them, but on the wall they'll be 👌
      And my next release will be a self-one. Hopefully before February.
      And yes, the Arc is great. I haven't yet used it with the computer as I couldn't quite sort out how to get it going. Someday, though I'll get on that and will love it. It's such a smooth controller.

    Is that a midi controller.. The thing with the big 4 silver knobs?

    • @Lightbath
      @Lightbath  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a Monome Arc that is controlling a Monome module called Ansible which is then controlling different parameters. There’s a link in the description.

    JUST BECAME A PATRON. Sorry but i'm totally gonna take cues from the patch notes you do for my own personal use to remember what i do

    • @Lightbath
      @Lightbath  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your support, Robert! Welcome to Club Lightbath! I started doing patch notes in the beginning of my modular journey because without being able to save presets, I sort of felt like I'd lose it all if I didn't. And then it became part of my learning process to take an hour or so and write down every... single.. connection. These days, I'm not usually quite as granular, because it doesn't really matter as long as I can communicate the concepts and the general flow. So yeah, enjoy! And definitely take a look at the old patch notes to see how much detail (too much detail, perhaps?) they have.

      @@Lightbath Thank you! Its gonna make performing much easier for me!

    • @Lightbath
      @Lightbath  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And fwiw, after more than a year into my modular journey, I started developing a performance patch that pretty much stayed the same. That way I could focus on making music with the patch and finding new pathways within it instead of reinventing the wheel every time.
      This approach isn’t for everyone, and Bana Haffar and I talk about it in the video on Patreon, but for me it works great. You’ll notice that 80% of my pieces the past couple years have been very similar in terms of patching. It’s the notes and rhythms and textures that change and give each piece its own character.

    I love what you do. Bought Tides because of you. Then sold it because except for the audio shifting it confused me. I will buy it again because of you because the audio shifting is just too awesome. A small downside is that the chords that are in Tides and the way they shift are very recognizable. I hope I can use it in ways that won‘t result in „oh he‘s doing that Tides thing again“. Has that crossed your mind?

    • @Lightbath
      @Lightbath  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. And yeah, it's totally ‘that Tides thing’. Like Rings > Clouds. But that doesn't really affect me. Because with Rings I continually get new sounds with the way I run my Rings > Clouds chain, so I just see peoples' issues with Rings > Clouds as a product of lazyness. If you simply run Rings > Clouds and don't do anything special then it's going to have that sound. But if you get creative and do new things to it, you can find your own sound with it. I feel that this approach can be applied to the different frequencies mode in Tides v2 as a VCO.
      So far I've been able to make two pieces with that mode (this and Loom 4), that-to my ears at least-sound different from each other. But yeah, I'm sure there's a limit to how many different zones one can really make with it. But that's not the point for me. I think Tides is great as a standard VCO, as an envelope/pulse generator, and as a polyphonic chords machine. I just like the Tides oscillator sound, but perhaps that's because Tides v1 was my first VCO.
      So yeah, wishing you well with the second go at it. Try to see it as a challenge to get it to sound different than what you've heard so far. And some next level approach would be to apply that philosophy every time you work with it. Who knows what you might discover!

      @yongamusic 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lightbath Awesome! Just the kind of (philosophical) words I needed to hear. Looking forward to the creative opportunities Tides offers and to discovering all of its functionalities.
      As Andrew said.. a bath full of.. light.

    That Intellijel case‘s left leg just clinging to the border of that plastic case .... madness ;)

    • @Lightbath
      @Lightbath  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha. It looks precarious, but since the other side has the same foot and ledge situation, it’s actually held in place very well. It just so happens to fit perfectly. And what’s funny is that I had very little time to set up at Moogfest and literally discovered that it fit when setting up. And I’ve been doing it that way ever since.
