When our Vet took an x-ray he had an obstruction in his digestive system. The Vet said he has to operate immediately on him. ( I saw the x-ray) After the other tests , the Vet couldn't get the obstruction to move through his intestines. I looked at my lab and I hugged him and told him I loved him and that I will be back to bring him home. During his operation the Vet found it wasn't an obstruction. It was a Kink in his intestines. Our long time Vet unraveled the kink and successfully closed him up and he went to recovery. The girl technician would call his name as to wake him up gently. He looked at her a wagged his tail. Then their rule was to check on him every 10 minutes. When she went to check him again he was dead. She freaked out and yelled to the Doctor for help. They couldn't bring him back. We got the call at home from our Vet that he died and the rest was history. We never said goodbye and his buddy companion was waiting for him to come home like several times before. We went back to see him and they laid him out on the table with a beautiful blanket on him but didn't cover his face . The Vet even cried along with us as he gave us time alone with him. I never brought him home like many times before. It was a day later when my great Dane after seeing my family & neighbor's coming over and crying that he realized his buddy wasn't coming home. He died of a runaway blood clot that went straight to his heart In the recovery room. SO...... The point I'm making is that my lab would play so hard at 110 % that it caused him to get hurt a number of times during the 9 yrs I had him. They are so loyal to the games they play outside with the family that you have to watch that they don't play too hard because they don't understand that they can get severely hurt. So beware ,... they are excellent dogs but need to be watched because they'll play until they exhaust themselves. I hope my comment shed some enlightenment on raising Chocolate Labs. I love them.
This is one of the most ridiculous videos I’ve ever seen. I’ve had many Labradors, chocolate, yellow and black and Ive noticed no difference in their behaviour or needs. All dogs need training when they are young. All young dogs are curious. Yellow and black labs are also “old hunting dogs”. Any dog can suffer separation anxiety. Chocolate labs are no more prone to it than any other colour lab or dog for that matter. All labs shed! I actually find the yellow ones are the worst. All dogs need socialising. To make out these requirements and behaviours are any worse in chocolate labs is silly. I showed my vet this video and he rolled his eyes and laughed saying this video is basically listing the requirements of any large dog. These are not traits specific to chocolate labs.
This guy is crazy best dog ever so much fun always played with me when he wants. Always likes a good but rub very friendly aalways wants to be with you. Builds realationships with the owner so we’ll and always is loyal. These dogs always help and will do anything for the owner. With my dog we used a dog translator and did anything we asked of him. Then right after he was done he spent tons of time with us and plays with us and snuggles with the owner. When my brother was born he got jealous and would rap around the feet of all of us.
I have a 5 month old chocolate lab and he is awesome. He loves my kids who are 6 and 9 years old, and can't wait to go pick them up everyday from school. He is definitely the right dog for our family.
I rescue mine when he was 4mo. He was a super active puppy, a handful, maybe the owner couldnt handle that and gave him up to the shelter. He's 1yo now, takes most of my bed space along with my cocker spaniel mix and loves to cuddle. Love my cuddle bug 🥰
Had a chocolate lab when I growing growing up. Mom and dad got him for $60 out of the newspaper. Buckshot was the best dog ever, except for his separation anxiety. At least I’ll assume that’s why he left a nice pile on the floor in the same spot damn near everyday while we were gone
I seriously don’t think this video should be labelled as reasons for not getting a ‘chocolate’ lab! Most of these principles could be applicable to any dog not just a chocolate lab! I’ve had my gorgeous girl for two years now and wow, I’ve not had an issue with her once and I’ve moved country 3 times - she loves the excitement of new adventures!
My dad first introduced me to this breed. He had a purebred from a breeder and he was beautiful and huge! He got a second lab and I took the jump and bought one as well. Atticus isnt perfect..hes bad and FULL of energy. But he is such a pure heart. He's 7 months now and I kept his papers unfiled incase he had to be sold again(I have other pets and a baby)...after a week I threw them away. Hes not going ANYWHERE. He is my 1 yr olds BFF and my 7 and 8 year olds brother. We love him. All dogs take unconditional love and patience.
I have a female around 7 months as well, they do need a bit of training, dont be scared to give a little slap here and there to check their boundaries, they are just bold bright dogs nothing mean or heavy but i do find you have to be a little tougher on them sometimes just in till they learn right from wrong, nothing crazy, but mine is certainly my other 2 year old dogs bestie and a great addition to any family
@@ssgssbeet4133 I had a purebred black lab female, from a rescue 2yo when I got her. We lived in a small town at time, had her for 2 years. Moved back to the city so I could finish high school. She went to live on a ranch in Wyoming with another lab that was older. The girl I had, she could run 50mph alongside my 4wheeler, jump 8 feet in the air to catch birds. And figured out how to cut her collars on the edge of the garage. She figured out how to use her paw to unhook her lead chain to chase deer all over town when they would come through the yard. And lastly, she gave you the hardest and swiftest kick to the balls when you pissed her off.
This list is pretty accurate. I kinda disagree with the shedding. It’s really not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Plenty of other dogs she’d way more and labs are generally not that bad in my opinion. Winter coats / summer coats. A furminate once a month usually keeps it pretty maintained
I have had my chocolate lab girl for 7 months now and she is my baby. Her sister is a husky so shedding is not something we notice with Siggy due to the husky. She is full of energy but I have about an acre fenced in for her to run and play. She has her own pool which she loves! She is the kindness and most loving dog and great sister. I love her very much. She is awesome with kids. I would encourage anyone to get a lab. As many have said, just love them and they will love you back!
I had a chocolate lab he was 12 years old he even helped me walk when I was born he passed away and his name was Ruger RIP Ruger also they're my favorite dog and watching this video made me really sad because that dog was everything to me 😭
There are no negatives with chocolate labs, Chewbacca ❤ my Chewy was almost 15 when I had to say goodbye 😢 he was amazing, he was my best friend, he was great with kids and loved life
I have 2 dog one is black and chocolate lab I trained black lab easily but I don't know how to train the chocolate lab can you please make about chocolate lab training🙏
Son has a chocolate lab. He figured out on his own how to bird hunt. Last couple years he went with us then figured out if he flushes the bird, he retrieves, then he gets a treat. He has always been a shy dog but when shotguns come out, he is like a fat kid on cake. He knows. Trying to get him to relax the the night before we hunt is a chore.
My first dog, Hubble, was so sweet! We never had to train him not to jump on or bite people. Although, one time at a fancy kennel where every dog got a TV that was mounted to the wall, Hubble ripped it off the wall and was grounded from TV for years LOLOLOL!! He lived 14 1/2 years. RIP in peace.
Just coming up to 11 months getting Finn as a 2 month old and I'd agree with all of those, choc labs are very rewarding and really smart, which is something the video didn't mention. My thoughts so far: He has grown up to be a big, powerful dog and needs lots of exercise. He is very friendly and great around other dogs, big or small. He also poops - a lot! So glad I got him house trained early, he is a poop factory... He is very loving and loyal, he usually never leaves my side when out for walks, but will dash away if something exciting happens (like a bird taking off or a leaf falling). He loves, more than anything, getting soaking wet and/or covered in wet mud so make sure you have a cleaning station set up at home after walks.
I was ready to defend my favorite type of dog when I read the title. But this video does a good job giving a quick rundown of things to consider before getting a lab. Another thing is they are swimmers - be prepared for a lab to be curious about (or jump into) any body of water it comes across.
Mine sheds 365 days a year and it is heavy for much of that time. Lucky for me he loves being vacuumed. I use a Furminator brush first. I have wooden floors thankfully which makes it easier to clean up. But it is everyday!
You know before there was all these TH-cam videos with pros and cons about dogs, people just used to get a dog! Sometimes it was a free dog, a dog someone else didn't want, or just as a gift. I was 8 years old when I got my first dog, I'm not sure what breed it was, it bit my ear once, and one time it bit my foot, nobody told me at 8 years old to not accidentally step on a dog's tail while it was eating its bone. I named him tequila, I later found out he was a terrier mix, and he was perhaps the best dog I ever had, he was loyal, he was smart, and he was my best friend with all of his pros and cons. There's no perfect dog, I do appreciate these videos as they help you make a better informed decision, but the truth is, most of us are not going to do all the special training with dogs, most of us have to go to work most of the day, and we're going to have to live with the imperfections of our dogs. Just like we live with the imperfections of our kids our partner and our communities. The most important thing is that you show your dog love, and that you don't abandon it or forget about it, I don't think the breed or the pros or cons of a dog are as important. Just take a chance and do your best, and if it's a dog you truly can't handle, then do the right thing and hold on to that dog until you're absolutely sure you found it a better place.
I LOVE how honest this channel is.. Most other channels are only showing the positive sides that a certain breed has.. OR you get channels with breeds like Mallinois, Dutch shepherd .etc.. Where they are warning about the breed but not without bragging about how cool they are and how good they are with dogs ( even though they are not able to train these breds without a ecollar or a prong) since THEY can own one but YOU can not. So CUDOS to this channel for keeping it real!
I fell in ❤️ love, and yet made a big selfish mistake, now i have to figure out the best way to get him trained, i can't give up on this beautiful puppy
Unfortunately my dog chocolate lab doesn't get to do all of there things due to arthritis and a lot of ear infections, but she is still the best dog in the world. Always so happy and love people. SO MUCH SEDDING
Yep 100% on the mark. 134 lbs 2 year old. Most loving dog but the only time I have trouble controlling him is kids & water, the 2 things I think he loves more than me that and dinner time
Ha ha ha... who does not love a lab! they are handsome dogs and the most goofy and positive dogs i know of ( except a boxer though.. Lol.. clown dog no.1 ) ..
Our chocolate lab is the sweetest girl ever. She weirdly HATES water. She was very destructive the first 3 years we had her. But then after she outgrew her puppy phase she was as cool and calm as can be. She is very selective with who she likes. She only likes our immediate family, anyone else, NOPE!
I just got my boy he is 9 months I got him from a shelter but he was t social with other dogs when he was a puppy now I’m trying to fight getting him past that but it’s hard have and tips?
Oh come on! One of, if not the most popular dog breeds in the world. OK, I will bite (unlike a lab). After 30+ years of being around and having pet dogs, I bought my first lab (chocolate- English(show)) 2 years ago. Simply, my favourite dog ever. A loving companion. Affectionate, playful, sociable, intelligent, loves swimming and retrieving (no surprises there!) and great to cuddle with. I will shortly produce my response video of 7 reasons why you should get a choco lab !
Love my chocolate girl but I'm not sure I trust everything they are saying in this presentation. "One hundred to 125 lbs..." That would be one obese lab! Don't take my word for it. Research lab weights for yourself. I'm not saying they can't get to that weight but it would be horrible for the poor pup. Their poor hips would suffer greatly! These dogs are food driven and their diet must be monitored for sure.
My chocolate Lab is sweet and she's really nice but I'm not putting this video but the shedding thing is true and I love my chocolate Lab my grandma passed away but 2years before she got my dog we call her tootsie she has 3 white tows on her.
My Lucky was 14 and I miss Him. I have another one now that is 8 months old and huge for His age. My kid and wife named Lucky too and He is in destruction
Labs are not destructive, I own three of them in one of our sons has a fourth one they’re sweet loving dogs, they are the best dogs they are very loyal. There’s nothing better for a family, or a friend than a Labrador retriever of any color, we have a chocolate and two blacks and our son has a yellow and they all get along very well, they’re very friendly they’re very social and personally I love them more than most human beings they’re the sweetest thing on earth in why anyone would be mean to an animal is beyond me, it’s just obnoxious.
I have one now is 10 years old the best 10 years of our family is getting old now but still has a puppy face love him a lot we know that the time is coming but we are prepare personally love him a lot his name is Rusty
Most labs required of color require exercise, are social and like reaffirming adult interaction. Chocolate didn't have any other stuff about them than black, silver or yellow. They all shed, should be brushed every day to sluff off shedding, hate it when you're going to be away on long vacations, love fetching and can be trained to fetch and do tricks. They love pleasing humans with trick requests. Have large vocab, and sometimes are skittish and high energy first 2 years. They like obedience training. All breeds should be researched before embarking on getting one. Otherwise, to be unprepared is cruel to the dog. Know what you're getting into and he willing to help your breed thrive. Or get a cat.
My precious 19-month old choco girl Gracie is asleep on my feet right now. This video applies to almost EVERY large dog, as a few others have pointed out. They ALL need training, exercise, attention, grooming, socialization, boundaries, etc. While the points are 100% valid in considering if a dog is the right pet for someone, focusing on chocolate labs is ridiculous. Clickbait title.
Had one NUT case would NOT cooperate no matter what. Constant runaways, not even shocker worked! They get so much energy that they won't feel even the hardest shock and keep on running till the remote stops reaching! Once it's time to exercise somewhere in park (with noted importance on this video), it's a runaway time -- not even split sec I could let it without leash or otherwise look for it the entire neighborhood for HOURS or DAYS till it was the time to call it and nick-name it OPJ -- other people's junk. I had him pulled my skate-board while I'm on it or bicycle and still not enough. Maybe that was just this one, but looks like he didn't have any separation anxiety on any of the runaways he did while I owned him. Please note that I own more animals and my approach to any domestic animal is backed by my experience and patience, but that cased asked me to favor some one else with my dog. Cannot tell precisely the reason of him wanting to take away all the time -- maybe he just didn't like me, but seemed to be a lot worse with others. Changed to Doberman and feel significant change in quality -- simply significant!

my lab and I hugged him and told him I loved him and that I will be back to bring him home. During his operation the Vet found it wasn't an obstruction. It was a
Kink in his intestines.
Our long time Vet
unraveled the kink
and successfully closed him up and
he went to recovery.
The girl technician
would call his name as to wake him up gently.
He looked at her a wagged his tail. Then
their rule was to check on him every 10 minutes. When she went to check him again he was dead.
She freaked out and yelled to the Doctor for help. They couldn't bring him back. We got
the call at home from our Vet that he died and the rest was history. We never said goodbye and his buddy companion was waiting for him to come home like several times before.
We went back to see him and they laid him out on the table with a beautiful blanket on him but didn't cover his face . The Vet even cried along with us
as he gave us time alone with him. I never
brought him home like many times before. It was a day later when my great Dane after seeing my family &
neighbor's coming over and crying that he realized his buddy wasn't coming home.
He died of a runaway
blood clot that went straight to his heart
In the recovery room.
SO...... The point I'm making is that my lab would play so hard at 110 % that it caused him to get hurt a number of times
during the 9 yrs I had him. They are so loyal to the games they play
outside with the family that you have to watch
that they don't play too hard because they don't understand that
they can get severely
hurt. So beware ,...
they are excellent dogs
but need to be watched because they'll play until they exhaust themselves.
Perfectly said!
Mine is the worst bed hog ever 😂 still love her. ❤
I’ve had a chocolate lab for 8 years and I can say that it’s the best dog ever ❤
Ive had black, yellow and have now a 12 year old chocolate lab. No matter what color, they are THE BEST DOGS GOD EVER MADE!!!
I’ve have got a chcolate lab! She’s 4months and half! These are seven reasons why I got a chocolate lab ❤️
Had a chocolate lab when I growing growing up. Mom and dad got him for $60 out of the newspaper. Buckshot was the best dog ever, except for his separation anxiety. At least I’ll assume that’s why he left a nice pile on the floor in the same spot damn near everyday while we were gone
The same spot lol mine just gets into the Garbo
I seriously don’t think this video should be labelled as reasons for not getting a ‘chocolate’ lab! Most of these principles could be applicable to any dog not just a chocolate lab! I’ve had my gorgeous girl for two years now and wow, I’ve not had an issue with her once and I’ve moved country 3 times - she loves the excitement of new adventures!
I totally agree. Worst title ever.
Awesome! Thanks for the comment!
7 reasons not to have one, all are so true. The next video should be 100 reasons to have 2 or more. I love my two boys.
I love my Choclate lab so much. His name is Blue and he is even featured on some of my TH-cam videos.😂
best dog i ever had. 13.5 years….well worth it. I miss my Kelly.
I had a chocolate lab he was 12 years old he even helped me walk when I was born he passed away and his name was Ruger RIP Ruger also they're my favorite dog and watching this video made me really sad because that dog was everything to me 😭
Cool name for a chocolate lab
i have a chocolate lab for 3 years now and i love him
There are no negatives with chocolate labs, Chewbacca ❤ my Chewy was almost 15 when I had to say goodbye 😢 he was amazing, he was my best friend, he was great with kids and loved life
Who is this "expert" ??? Obviously never had a chocolate baby!!! I have had six in my 53 years. They are just pure bundles of LOVE !!!
I have 2 dog one is black and chocolate lab I trained black lab easily but I don't know how to train the chocolate lab can you please make about chocolate lab training🙏
I got my chocolate lab Molly 6 years ago. Best decision.
From where you have these numbers for weight? 125 pounds is about 2x much as they usually get... or is this some US standard?
Wondered the same. Breed standard in the US is 65-80lbs for males, 55-70 for females. 100+ lbs is likely an obese dog 😢
We just got our 8 week old chocolate lab puppy. Other than than the constant biting, we're glad to have her. Hopefully it's just a puppy phase.
I will collect my pup on Sunday
Ive had my chocolate lab since 2018 and he is my best friend for life and i probably wouldnt have survived my hard times without him ❤❤
My first dog, Hubble, was so sweet!
My thoughts so far:
He has grown up to be a big, powerful dog and needs lots of exercise.
I have a chocolate Labrador and in my opinion there is no reason why you should not get a chocolate Labrador in my book.
I'm picking up my chocolate lab pup tomorrow....CANT WAIT
I have a chocolate lab and she’s so cuddly and she’s our leader in the house. But they get very aggressive when they go to the doctor .
I get aggressive too when I see that vet bill
As a past breeder the Labrador retriever is by far the most loyal loving family dog on this planet. Not to mention one of the most brilliant breeds
11 years in with Jackson our chocolate lab. Beautiful dog never an issue, perfect disposition.
Thank you! Dogs are great but hate to see them with owners that aren’t wiling to do what’s needed for them to be happy and healthy!
Love my chocolate lab.He is 7 years old and can’t imagine him not being around
too late. i dont regret anything! i love my puppy!
I fell in ❤️ love, and yet made a big selfish mistake, now i have to figure out the best way to get him trained, i can't give up on this beautiful puppy
Needed this affirmation. My chocolate lab is a handful, but probably the best dog I've ever owned.
I have had a chocolate lab for over a year now and she is awsome
Unfortunately my dog chocolate lab doesn't get to do all of there things due to arthritis and a lot of ear infections, but she is still the best dog in the world. Always so happy and love people. SO MUCH SEDDING
Yep 100% on the mark. 134 lbs 2 year old. Most loving dog but the only time I have trouble controlling him is kids & water, the 2 things I think he loves more than me that and dinner time
Hah yes they love dinner time!
Great video, however these videos always result in my kids asking....
C'mon Dad a Chocolate lab would be great. We have three large dogs already!
Haha sorry man! 4 big dogs would be a lot! And a lot of hair around the house
Ha ha ha... who does not love a lab! they are handsome dogs and the most goofy and positive dogs i know of ( except a boxer though.. Lol.. clown dog no.1 ) ..
I also have a zoo LOL - Just look at it like this - what’s one more? Lol… I hope you do get the fourth doggy
Best decision I've ever made. I agree 100%, these are really an amazing breed.
Awesome thanks for the comment
Our chocolate lab is the sweetest girl ever. She weirdly HATES water. She was very destructive the first 3 years we had her. But then after she outgrew her puppy phase she was as cool and calm as can be. She is very selective with who she likes. She only likes our immediate family, anyone else, NOPE!
My chocolate lab destroy all his toys and scared of water.😅
Same😂
I raised a Chocolate Lab for 14 years... May she rest in peace.
I just got my boy he is 9 months I got him from a shelter but he was t social with other dogs when he was a puppy now I’m trying to fight getting him past that but it’s hard have and tips?
Get him around other dogs with out yourself being nervous. Start slow and build up. But you can’t be nervous or he will be
I miss my chocolate lab Bailey so much, she died when I was only 2.
Mine chocki is turning 12. She is 33 kg or 73 lbs and still full of energy # big ears #big paws #brownie 🐾
My chocolate lab is the best dog I have ever had
Love my chocolate girl but I'm not sure I trust everything they are saying in this presentation. "One hundred to 125 lbs..." That would be one obese lab! Don't take my word for it. Research lab weights for yourself. I'm not saying they can't get to that weight but it would be horrible for the poor pup. Their poor hips would suffer greatly! These dogs are food driven and their diet must be monitored for sure.
I've had a few labs. The chocolate was the best one. Hard to put down, broke my heart.
We had to put him down today. I will forever cherish you Yuki.
best dogs ever! agree with the points. 12 and 15 years old , hunting . Master and Rocket . thank you
All I can say is if you want a family dog or companion your choice as a chocolate lab can be tge absolute best
I get mine 27th August. I can't wait!
My chocolate Lab is complete opposite of me he loves attention and gives love to everyone he sees❤
My chocolate Lab is sweet and she's really nice but I'm not putting this video but the shedding thing is true and I love my chocolate Lab my grandma passed away but 2years before she got my dog we call her tootsie she has 3 white tows on her.
All true and all worth it .
I miss my guy....12.5 years... New chocolate next week after 14 months!..
I would like to see the source of these "facts".
I’m thinking about getting one mixed with Stratford Shire Terrier, beautiful parents. Has anyone had luck training these for bird hunting?
My Lucky was 14 and I miss Him.
I have another one now that is 8 months old and huge for His age.
My kid and wife named Lucky too and He is in destruction
Mine Is about a year old...love her!
Chocolate labs are the best. Just lost our precious chocolate yesterday at age 11.5. 😢🐾🐶😢
My Dog lived 16 years.
😢
He was Named after A Football Player Named Benni McCarthy
My family has been breeding chocolate labs and they are big sweethearts !🐕❤
choc labs are worth buying cuz they are worth buying
but why are they worth buying?
Because they are very smart
@@mysterydarkness3489 but here they are expensive...5000 dollars in Australia...I had one before but sadly 😥 he pass away..
Im sorry
You really need to read the owners manual on chocolate labs before you get one.
Don’t scare people off. The easyest dog in the world. It is the best for you, just give it love.
My family had two chocolate labs. They were amazing!
I had a chocolate and a black one :), I also had another black one when I was younger
You're talking about my black lab hes just that but if it if he was Brown
I luv mine she’s been part of our family for 5 years now
I have one and if I don’t have him I would die he makes me live he is GREAT NO ONE BEATS MOOSEY
This video applies to every color lab, not just chocolate.
Female Choco labs are the best.
Great video! Amazing and loving dogs but not for everyone
This Friday we’re getting a chocolate lab
That’s crazy! Good info thanks for sharing
I love my chocolate Lab....he is SO kind. He got such human eye expressions. But yes, he sheds like crazy, But I got my Roomba to help with that.
Rules for labs. Persevere til they’re 2yrs old when over night they become the perfect dogs. Then if they get to an old age, buy a vax carpet cleaner.
