Tom...awesome video. I just poked around my 308 and it has the same lockout arrangement but I never really knew much about the function. Just I has to push down. Thanks!
It's a good thing to have fixed, but it often leads to having the need to get the plate rechromed. If you can manage the heat from welding, chroming might not be necessary. Good luck!
On my Mondial I think I have the same issue with a worn reverse lockout tab -- it just slots into reverse w/o needing to be pressed down. The steel of those gates must be quite soft for it to wear down like that, which surprises me. In my case, I don't think it's worth the trouble to repair it properly, as I'm never tempted to downshift from first :)
@@susannero6401 it’s also helpful when someone else drives your car and forgets it’s a dogleg first, shifts into reverse without the lock out, and slams into the behind them at a traffic light! Thanks for watching.
I love folks that will admit they can't or don't want to work on something. Nothing worse than someone getting in over their head on something that I really cared about.
@@robertbcope I try to convey to my vendors there is no shame to admitting to their limitations. I’d rather have that than disappointment and having to do the work again. Thanks for watching.
@@tomyangnet 100%. I had a guy come out to do some tires for my 308 a while back. He got out the truck and I told him immediately, "These are mint condition, original Ferrari wheels. If you aren't comfortable doing the work, if you don't think you can do it without damaging them, no big deal, just tell me now. I'd rather you be honest than have to deal with a problem." He got it done perfectly, thankfully, and has done a few more sets on other cars for me.
these Ferrari owners are very lucky to have access to you and your tremendous expertise!
@@changent I’m lucky to have owners that trust me with their Ferraris! It’s a mutual respect. Thanks for watching.

Never fail to learn something from your videos. I’ve got to check the reverse lockout tab on my car. Thanks.

I have yet to find the perfect pair of snap ring pliers, but these work most of the time. Thanks for watching!
