Enthusiast Weekend: Last Days of Penrhyn Steam
    Sunday 20th March 2022
On the 15th January 1965 steam ceased to operate at the Penrhyn Quarry with Iorwerth Jones signing the cab of Avonside locomotive ‘Ogwen’ after his last day driving steam in the quarry. After this ‘Ogwen’ and five other Penrhyn locomotives were sold to American antiques dealer CB Arenette and shipped across the ocean to America.
Statfold's Enthusiast Weekend sees three of the last Penrhyn locomotives reunited, with visiting Avonside ‘Ogwen’ reunited with Statfold’s own Avonside ‘Marchlyn’ and recently restored Andrew Barclay ‘Cegin’. With ‘Sybil Mary’ and ‘GP39’ completing the Penrhyn line-up, alongside visiting Hunslet 'Gwynedd' from Bressingham Steam and Gardens.
    Steam Locomotives in action:
Quarry Hunslets: No. 316 'Gwynedd' & 921 'Sybil Mary'
    Hunslet: No. 1842 'Howard'
    Hudswell Clarkes: No. 972 'Fiji', 1056 'CSR No. 19' & 1643 'Bronllwyd'
    Davenport: No. 1586
    Andrew Barclay: No. 1991 'Cegin'
    Peckett: No. 2050 'Harrogate'
    Avonsides: No. 2066 'Ogwen' & 2067 'Marchlyn'
    Bagnall: No. 2820 'Isibutu'
Kerr Stuart Wren: No. 3128 'Roger' (not featured in this video)
Joining the steam locos was the "The Goose" American style railcar and Burton & Ashby Light Railways tramcar 14. The event featured the usual Statfold intensive running with a mixture of passenger and goods trains, with a variety of single headed and double headed combinations varying throughout the day.
