    Back when the closing track on an album mattered.

    • @WilliamJones-sf5pt
      @WilliamJones-sf5pt 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes. But back then the only ending track that mattered was on the A-side. Most albums on the flip-side or B-side were junk or experimental garbage. This is what made Supertramp progressive. They were master craftsmen much like the earlier Wrecking Crew that employed Glenn Cambell. This album took only eight songs from a collection of 40 that they spent two years writing.

      Can't even imagine how bad this was for him and what more we would have heard from him instead if it hadn't happened:
      Roger Hodgson, known for his work with the band Supertramp, suffered a significant accident in 1987 when he fell asleep in a loft and fell eight feet onto a concrete and brick floor. This accident resulted in both of his wrists being crushed. The prognosis was initially poor, and it was uncertain if he would be able to play music again12. This accident occurred shortly after the release of his album "Hai Hai," and it took him a decade to fully recover both physically and emotionally

    Crime of the Century was always the last song played at a Supertramp concert. I've seen them three times. 70's, 80's and somewhere around 2005. This song gives me chills. Always because during the piano solo a big screen would drop and the bars would come flying through space at you. It was so incredibly cool. Supertramp was always about the music, story telling and instrumentation. Their songs make you're imagination go wild, which is what music is supposed to do. The talent of these musicians is second to none in my opinion. One of the most awesome bands ever. Keep listening

    I saw The "Crime of the Century" tour around '75 or '76. They played the entire album from beginning to end with a large rear projection screen behind them. The visuals were awesome. The last thing on the screen was what you see on the album cover.

  • @hunter1961100

    This was when bands made albums Every song was produced at the standard like dark side of the moon. You really need to listen to the whole album to appreciate it and in the 70s if you walked into a high-end stereo shop this is the album the sales person would put on to demonstrate their system.

    John Helliwell is 6'5" with very long blonde hair. The image of him standing center stage blowing that Sax is something I cherish, while Rick looks like a mad man banging on his piano.

      yeah, i saw them on the tour for this album as well as even in the quietest moments. they played this as a final song with the bars floating through space on a video screen. except, i don't think it was video back then. i'm pretty sure it was film. both were absolutely incredible concerts though.

    Supertramp is my 2nd Favorite Live show I've ever seen (4 times) Only Pink Floyd is above them (4 times). When Supertramp needed a guitar player after Roger left they asked David Gilmour. When Pink Floyd needed a great Sax player they asked John Helliwell to join them. The two bands have a lot in common.... AWESOMENESS and incredible live shows.

    If you want other songs by Genesis, I suggest you « Firth of fifth », « The Musical Box », « Supper’s ready », « Fountain of Salmacis », « The return of the Giant Hogweed », « The Cinema show » …. the list is very very very long trust me

    That repeating piano part was played all the way to the end by Roger Hodgson. (No repeat software tech available back in '74) It's all real musicians playing lots of keyboards as well as all the other instruments & sounds you hear. Roger's been touring for the past few years and playing the songs he wrote while in Supertramp. He also plays several types of guitars. And you know his "high" vocals are amazing. He's on TH-cam doing several live performances...Check it out.
    I saw Supertramp in 1979 and there where at least 4 keyboards on the stage as well as a grand piano. It was the best concert I've ever seen before or since. 🙂

      @msamelienp 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @balazsernhaft8337 I know, I fucked up. Sorry, I know it was Rick's song and that he played the piano and Roger played guitar on this one. My point was there was no "repeat tech" in those days. I saw this live in 79.

    Crime of the Century happens to be the last song of the album, ending side 2. The first song on this album is School, and the FIRST thing you hear on that track is a haunting harmonica. Like so many others before and after, they ended the album as they started, or added that element at the end anyways.
    I have always loved Supertramp, went to see them when I was in 16 in a general admission concert with about a dozen of my classmates. Luckily, we were close to end of school year, had already covered the material and were actually reviewing (students picked topics WE were having trouble with) and had a pretty cool teacher who, when she realized we had all been at the show the night before, basically let us totally relax all period!! And it was a great show, and since it was in 1977 it cost $7.50!!

    First of all- One of the greatest album covers of all time. You can't look at it without needing to know what the album sounds like. I hadn't heard this in decades. Amazing track. Every instrument is so clear in the mix, not jumbled together. Steely Dan talent, but without the Seedy underbelly
