Sa canada madali ang humanap menial jobs pero mahirap humanap ng career lalo na kung foreign graduate
Go easy on taking insurances. Kahit investment sya kung mapupunta almost lahat ang sweldo mahirap din magbudget sa mga ibang expenses. I'm talking thru experience kasi syempre mahihiya ka na wag paunlakan ang friend mong insurance agent na hind kumuha ng products nila. Gaya ng educational fund na yan i regret getting it kasi nung winithdraw namin ang educ fund ng anak ko ang taas ng fees na kinuha nila i told myself sana nag ipon na lang ako and used my credit card in paying my daughter's tution fee and kaagad bayaran para hindi magbayad ng interest. At saka makakuha ka pa ng points/rewards. Sa insurance naman tama na yung critical and life insurance. Wag padadala sa mga sinasabi ng mga iba. Malaki na rin yung $100,000 each plus the critical insurance god forbids hindi tayo magkakasakit makukuha din natin yung contribution.
Nabudol ka ng what you call “scholarship plan”. It is RESP, but it is group RESP. Be very wary in getting those. Because, as you mentioned, it carries high cancellation fees when you can’t commit to your contributions. Ang problema kasi mga agent nyan tinatarget mga immigrants na technically walang alam sa RESP. I got lucky in working in the financial industry so it gave me an advantage to use it for my personal finances. RESP - Registered Educational Savings Plan. It is registered savings plan because this is under the regulatory of the Gov’t of Canada. Same as RRSP, TFSA, etc. This particular registered account is a saving plan for the education of your kids or grand kids. Basically, RESP can be opened with the any banks in Canada like TD, Royal bank, etc. its as easy as you go to a teller and say i want to open an resp for my son or daughter’s name. Then you can just do a monthly plan how much you can afford. If let say 2 yrs down the road you lost your job you can stop thr monthly payment and there will be no penalty unlike with the GROUP RESP. And resume when you are able to. So why we open RESP? Cuz you can just save money aside for your kids education right? Wrong, the difference is gov’t matches 20% of what you’ve contributed so example you put in $100. The gov’t will put in $20, for a maximum of $500/ year. Is that free money or what? There are more rules in how to withdrawal and all. It’s better to have a financial advisor to explain it in depth. Hope this information helps other immigrants.
