Aside from Nordstrom, pati Bed Bath & Beyond is closing this March. Ganun talaga, unpredictable and not so secured job dito but easy to find new naman eh. I was also laid off (part of a mass lay off) from a big pharmaceutical company here in Toronto and worked there for 10 years. Even my manager who worked there for 37 years kasama sa lay off when a new management took over. Ang importante you had a great work experience and learned from it. Basta hindi naman mapili, madaling makahanap ng bagong trabaho. But there are times need din mag relocate for lesser competition on a certain industry sa tina target na position.
Eto ay part ng journey mo sa Canada, in fact it could be a blessing. This is just a stepping stone so do not despair. In Canada there are safety nets na sasalo sa inyo. As a matter of fact from my experience every time I lost my job nag EI ako at umunlad pa ako sa next job ko.. You are a smart and educated person and this is part of a learning process. Its really ongoing dito din ang ibang Nordstrom mag sara din kasi inflation ngayon thats ok keepwatching and applying minsan sa mga nursing homes for temporary secretarial jobs check mo lang kasi sa inflation medical lang ang d nag close or rehabilitation centers sa recreation dept nila ok din teaching residents or reading them books or piano if hospitals also in their every dept has secretaries or scheduling dont feel bad just keep going anyway you only have a few months left for school to be done just tighten belt but theres a lot still will open for you

Ganon talaga its not just in canada I experience it myself when our company in california ended up closing down too.. But after being unemployed for three months and good thing I found a new job pretty quickly.. so don't lose hope and You will see a better opportunity out somewhere else...
No worry, you can apply/file an EI regular benefits. Usually nagbibigay sila ng 18 weeks na binepesyo. Siguro naman you can find a new job sa 18 weeks time.
