Happens after you do the gym inspections and Geeta asks you questions, her last one being which gym leader you liked best. Eventually in the BB clubroom when you invite them they may comment on you choosing them, the one you picked as best.

yeah they do influence their league conversations. would do that one but the force save after story makes it too tedious since it would mean running through the entire game 8 times to get the league club changes
