  • Melissa Cooke’s hyper-realistic drawings begin with graphite powder on paper. But it’s when she takes an eraser to the work that it truly comes to life.

    From the beginning u can tell the artist chooses a unique point of you. She most certainly worked on accepting her nose shape as we see from the angle she took on most her creations.

      do you mean unconventional? She's using graphite on the brush, so it's graphite art. Graphite is in your pencil but this is just loose graphite, you don't need a pencil to use it.

      @SBFOK thank you!
      Throughout my life I have used and used various techniques for enlargement. Including the grid. Sometimes I do my free hand so as not to lose practice too. I find the magnification using projector interesting but never used.
      A good projector is expensive.
      I use the grid a lot. I like it.

    H E L P ... I'm looking on youtube to find out if I can draw with graphite on professional wood panels that have a white surface? I do inexpensive graphite portraits on good quality paper, but many of my customers do not have their drawings professionally framed but do it themselves. That bothers me because I want my work to be archival. The questions are: Can I do a photo realism style with lots of flesh detailed shading but on professional white wood panels instead of high quality drawing paper? Will the graphite adhere to the wood surface and thus become archival? If so, what would be the best way to seal the drawing to insure it might not flake off in the future? H E L P
