Walkinshaw enhanced E3 HSV LPI Clubsport with 3inch bimodal exhaust launch & drive by-HD

- Please note video footage is best viewed in 720p/1080p HD and was taken during the new year holiday break on a quiet outer suburban road to ensure the safety of others. The launch was performed on lpg and comp mode was selected to prevent wheel spin. Drive by shows how quite the exhaust can be when cruising and when you open it up past 3800rpm mark the sound that it makes when the vacuum operated valves open up with the bimodal system.
Thanks, glad you like it. It's 365kw @ fly wheel, being an auto you loose about anywhere between 20 to 24% depending on what type of dyno is used making it around 289 rear wheel kw mark - give or take.
Thanks, glad you like it. When idling with exhaust valves open, on normal take off the exhaust valves do close into silent mode. From there depending on how much throttle you use the exhaust note will get slightly louder as the vacuum operated valves will start to open. After 3800rpm the exhaust valves will fully open and you'll get a nice V8 note.
Thanks mate, appreciate the positive feed back. It is a pity unfortunately that too many modern & classic car enthusiasts with powerful vehicles are categorised as "hoons" whereby the majority just have a love for the car without pushing the limits.
If you can afford the three, why not. I had a manual e series LS3 GTS which was supercharged by Walkinshaw with a custom engine rebuild and they're great cars. Enjoy your collection mate!
Thank you, its nice to voice your appreciation. Well in factory LPI form its pretty cheap to run. A 50/50 mix of hwy and city driving with the occasional full throttle burst, the best mileage to date would have to be around 430km mark which cost me $30 to $36 to fill depending on fuel prices and that's about 60 to 70kms less than I get with petrol and the petrol costs me over $100 to fill.
Thanks, now's a great time to buy as HSVs prices have dropped.Wouldn't waste my money on a factory bimodal setup as its a very restricted system. To achieve 365kws I had fitted a set of walkinshaw super sport 4 into 1 design headers with high flowing metal cats, a walkinshaw 3inch bi modal cat back exhaust system,a walkinshaw otr cold air intake & a custom tune. With this system you can have to best of both worlds with no drone.Full system price is about$3000 on top of factory bimodal option cost
Igor, the purpose of the bi-modal exhaust system is one of form & function.
The system itself is like an aftermarket exhaust, allowing the engine to release gases quicker & increases performance. The butterfly valves which can be left shut (standard exhaust flow, quiet sound), half open (quicker flow, slight increase in sound) or fully opened (max flow & max sound) serve the dual purpose of increasing power & improving performance, whilst maintaining factory OEM requirements.
Hi Mate, thanks for your vote, that issue with the E1/E2's slow respond shifting has been resolved with the E3 + I've had Walkinshaw recalibrate the auto to get the best out of it'. HSV have programmed the E3 so it now also matches the rev's when down shifting which maximisers the E3 range to brake effectively. It's just like using your heel and toe to rev match when down shifting in a manual.
Thanks, yes they're all great cars and I agree the LSA would be a load of fun. The VF's interior is a big step up from the VE which is great, I don't mind the front but I'm still not so sure on the rear. I guess it's going to have to grow on me.
It definitely grew on me !!! I didn’t use to like the VF’s years ago
Excellent video. Thank you. To stop droning in the cabin but have that splendiferous burbling V8 on demand is the holy grail and you've achieved that - bloody well done. Incredible! I just want one!!!
Thanks buddy glad you liked it, I may need to make some other footage to compare the difference between exhausts with my new gen-f hsv.
They're all great cars in the HSV range. I highly recommend them as this is my third HSV Iv'e owned in the VE series...
True, no problems with polishing the centre roof of the car and yes I'm with you I think white looks great too!
Thanks mate, appreciate your comment and it's nice to get the supportive feed back. Glad you like it!
saw this car the other night parked up in the main street of werribee next to a gen f gts and walkinshaw r8, was a nice line up :)
Yeah the two gen-f's are my mates cars, we all grabbed a bite to eat. Thanks mate. You still own that nice Xa Falcon?
***** yeah mate, dads had that car since he was 21, after 35 years that car aint going anywhere i can tell you haha
I used to have that thought to, but I even came across advertised for sale holden captiva and was walkinshaw enhanced, and I kid you not!
People attack what they're afraid of. The new VF will put the Commodore back to #1 in sales in my opinion. The fact that it's going to be exported to 4 Continents is a major boost. Injecting 2 billion dollars into the Australian economy in its lifespan & is also what Chev are going to use in NASCAR. Amazing stuff.
The technology in it is mind blowing, but the styling of the car is classy (Calais) & the interior is a work of art. I'll be trading my ute in for either a VF SSV or HSV F-Series Maloo
Yes I bet you would be having a lot of fun with the gear changing. Auto's can sometimes be a bit boring. But I must say the E3's auto is much better now with its new rev matching program and I had the transmission also recalibrated for better shifting to liven things up a bit and it now redline's to 6500rpm instead of 3900rpm from factory. Anyway mate, enjoy your GTS and thanks for sharing feedback!
Yes these 6.2 litre LS3 engines have not bad power delivery and torque for a naturally aspirated engine. You can get good power gains with minimum enhancements. There a great engine!
Nice, I just got the stock 2010 ss and it is great (not as good as the hsv's) but I love these cars and motors. Unfortunate that the new VF's don't look as good but then again the LSA would be pretty fun.
That's good to hear, they're great cars. You enjoy your ute, good luck with which ever way you choose to enhance your ride and thank you for your comments...
Oh & I'm with you on the boredom point, no matter how much power you have you never stop wanting more.....nice to know you feel the same.
Thanks mate, but one could only wish with such little upgrades that it would do 11's. But it's a nice little package for a daily cruiser.
Thanks, To achieve 360kws I had fitted a set of walkinshaw super sport 4 into 1 design headers with high flowing metal cats, a walkinshaw 3inch bi modal cat back exhaust system, a walkinshaw otr cold air intake and a custom tune. When I had it on the dyno the 5 extra kws came from HSV'S LPI gas setup.
Thanks, Just like you I love manual transmission cars. Not long ago I sold my 520kw 2009 model HSV e series GTS which was supercharged with a 6 speed manual. I brought this car for my wife to mainly use as she can't drive a manual. I'm just waiting for the new HSV GTS VF model to come out in 2015 so I can go buy my new toy which will be a manual. In saying that the active select auto is still great to drive especially with its new rev matching program when gearing down in manual mode.
Thanks, today it looked a little lower than it usually is as I had both tanks full, a boot load of shopping and the whole family as well. I have found the LPI set up to be really good. Its cheap to run and it also gave me an extra 5kw's on the dyno. You can't tell a difference when switching to either fuel and there's no loss of power as well. It goes alright for a duel fuel naturally aspirated unopened engine.
Hi there, I ordered this LPI gas system with the car via the dealership and it's all factory fitted by HSV and covered under the Holden/HSV new car warranty. If you have a look at my other video you'll see how neat the install is in the engine bay. You can't even tell it's a duel fuel HSV.
Saw the beast at the plaza the other week looks nice as mate
I have a VE SS...
Yes, I'll be uploading a couple of more videos soon as my HSV will be getting a few exterior upgrades. Thanks for checking out my ride!
It's a long way off at the moment. Until then I'll get the obligatory CAI, cam, exhaust, tune & suspension. I'm trying to decided whether I'll do the 427 in the ute or wait until the VF comes out.
I got the car bug from my old man who has had a few different performance cars in his time. Most notable ones are the HK GTS Monaro, Mini Cooper S & an 85 model BMW M5. The Beamer was an absolute freak of a car. Great to drive.
Thanks mate. I do love the sound as well. In factory LPI form its pretty cheap to run. A 50/50 mix of hwy and city drivinig with the occasional full throttle burst, the best mileage to date would have to be around 430km mark which cost me $34 to $40 to fill depending on fuel prices and that's about 60 to 70kms less than I get with petrol and the petrol costs me over $100 to fill.I'm hoping to upload a couple of new video's soon as in the next month I will be doing some minor changes to the R8!
Thanks mate, appreciate the compliment & yes white is nice.
Currently I share this car with my wife and she can't drive a manual but a manual is my preferred choice as auto's can sometimes be a bit boring. Gotta keep the wife happy, perhaps one day she might see it my way and learn to drive a manual...
I've owned a couple of what we call e series holdens and I haven't had any issues with the interior!
Hi, in regards to LPI setup I rate it 10/10. There's no loss of power right though the rev range and it will still allow you to install a cam if need be. HSV has taken care of the extra weight by modifying the rear suspension to cope so it still handles great. As for play, well it still lights up the rear tyres with ease and you can have loads of fun just like a non LPI HSV. Forced induction can also be fitted but the LPI computer will also need to be re tuned by your performance shop tuner.
Thanks mate, appreciate your supportive comment. Too bad some people can't agree to disagree...
Yes that's right, from factory in manual mode it only red line's out to 4200 rpm but since I had the auto recalibrated by Walkinshaw it now red line's to 7000 rpm. I can't remember what rpm I was in when down shifting in this video as it was taken more than a year ago but it all depends what speed you are doing at the time and how much braking distance you have. It is capable of rev matching when down shifting up to 7000rpm if one wants too, it all depends on the driving situation at the time.
I'm stoked with my ute. I bought it brand new in May 2011 & I'm kind of bored with it. But that's due to it still being stock standard, so I'm on the power hunt now.
Thanks, I ordered it from the dealership and it's all factory fitted by HSV.
such a beauty man! wouldn't mind taking it out for a spin!
Thanks mate, I really appreciate the positive feedback!
My parents both have matching black hsv's mums black e3 clubsport R8 and dads e3 maloo R8 love your clubby too nice choice mate go Holden
yes, launch control is available across the hole HSV E2/E3 range, but only for manual transmission vehicles.
I'd love to have my Pontiac G8 GT (US), Holden Commodore (AU) to look and sound like this. We both even have the same color!! This car is gorgeous!!!
@ TheGbnz Hi you can't go wrong with a bi modal set up if your wanting a quiet exhaust at times. When the valves are closed it sounds like a stock system which is pretty impressive for a 3 inch. With most other brands yes you can leave the factory tips on but with the walkinshaw system you can't as the rear cans come complete with a solid billet figure 8 tip. Hope this info helps!
These are my favourite hsv, hope to own one someday
@nebulaxeon Yes, it's a 6L80E active select automatic transmission. E3 HSV's have been programmed to rev match when gearing down in manual mode. In doing this the vehicle stops a hole lot better when gearing down. It just sound like gearing down in a manual using your heel and toe to rev match. Also the auto has been recalibrated to achieve more smoother and faster shifting.
Hi, your right, bolting on the supercharger took the 6.2L LS3 to 470kw. I wasn't happy with that so I had the LS3 rebuilt with a set of diamond pistons to up the PSI, custom cam, hi boost drive kit and a couple of other bits as well. I did want any head work done as I wanted to maintain drivability and still be economical to drive when cruzing.
Had to come back to get another view of your car man :DD Its still insane man :) Hope you've looked after her well :P
ReaLzEdits Thanks mate, yes I always look after my rides, 2 months ago I upgraded to a new gen-f Senator, I will post some footage of it soon once I get a few modifications done. Appreciate the positive feedback.
***** VF Senator? :O Man your so lucky take care mate :) Cant wait to see some footage :)
Thanks mate, appreciate the positive feedback.
Hi there, this is a 2012 E3 HSV LPI CLUBSPORT R8 which is the factory optioned duel fuel model (available with no duel fuel) The E3 HSV was released in late 2010 - 2013. This is my 3rd E series HSV and yes I would highly recommend them as they're good value for money. Audi also have some great cars too but it just depends what your in the market for. If you check my visual tour video you can see what the interior & exterior of this car looks like. Hope this info helps!
Yes I agree, I've owned a number of HSV's and early muscle cars in the past and Auto's have improved over the years. I guess the majority of modern & classic car enthusiasts prefer a manual for the driving experience.
Usually they come with the billet quad 4inch tips. Give walkinshaw a call and they might be able to put in a special order for you and make a system without the tips.
Jeez mate, looks like you wouldn't have problems reaching over centre of roof when polishing. I have to stand on a small stepstool.
These models look stunning in white
Thanks mate, I would go with the Maloo but in saying that they're both great cars. You can't go wrong with the XR6T either. Best of luck with your purchase!
Hi, the tank size is 68L. With today fuel prices it cost me around $36 to fill and to date the best mileage Iv'e got out of it is 430kms. 50/50 mix hwy and city driving with the occasional full throttle burst. That's about 60 to 70kms less than I get with petrol and the petrol costs me over $100 to fill.
Thanks mate, the VE SS is also a nice car to have too!
As I've been dealing with Walkinshaw head office next door to HSV since 2008, the recalibration didn't cost me much at all. Yes I agree it would be more aggressive but because I use this as a daily driver I'm enjoying the economy with the factory duel fuel set up.Unfortunately no launch control for the auto E3 the only launch you can do is set the esc settings to comp mode which gives you the best off both worlds and prevents wheel spin on take off.
Awesome car mate very nice in white too
I agree, thanks for stopping by and voting!
Well my cousin bought his wife the FG GS 315kw ute. She has managed a best of 14.1 down the quarter mile in it. Has axle tramp & wheelspin issues with the 19's. She laughed at me when I took my SS down the quarter & ran a 15.8 (I screwed the pooch big time with the launch & limiter bounced 2nd to 3rd). By the end of the night I'd pulled a best of 13.6 in full street trim (20" rims, half a tank of fuel, wheelspin & all in stock trim). 45 kw's less, but half a second faster. :-)
Yes that's right they're quad 4inch tips and they also come in black which is shown in my other videos.
Yea i can see that they do a good job. Awsome
Haven't timed my 0 - 100 yet but in stock form it claimed to do 0 - 100kms in 4.9 sec. You can get decent mileage out of these 6/6.2 litre LS engines as long as your not to heavy with your right foot. As for my ride being a factory duel fuel HSV it's pretty cheap to run with LPG costing less than petrol!
Yes they are awesome, I,m good friends with Alan Hale from Walkinshaw performance who runs the show down at the HSV precinet. I refer a lot of people down to him and Iv'e had all my cars enhanced by them too. They do a great job.
Really David? sounds like you don't think much of HSV,yet why watch? I would keep your poor comments 2 yourself, this is my daily drive and why wouldn't I choose the factory duel fuel option. This video was filmed 2 show enthusiasts what WP products sound like+how efficient LPG can be.If you don't like HSV each to there own I guess but I don't see any video on your channel of what you drive.I could of taken off in a different manner without driving aids on but that,s not what this video is about.
MrGutsyHsv well said
No problem mate, next Sunday I'll be going and taking my Clubsport to a VE/HSV cruise, dyno comp and show N shine so I hope to upload some more footage soon. If you need to know anymore info feel free to ask....
That my friend is one beautiful HSV !
Glad you like it, thanks...
Thanks mate, glad you like it!
Me neither, but all you would do is press the bi-modal button & it's full noise. If the FPV's have a bypass, it makes having the system redundant. Which is nothing unusual for FPV. They still have the "2 hands needed" starter button.
Thanks mate, appreciate your comment!
Haha thought this thing looked familiar, I live right around the corner to where it's always parked. Tuff car mate
daaaam sounds good! I get off my green p's soon, still not sure If I prefer an older maloo or an xr6T, you cant go wrong with the noise of a big V8 though!
I have not read your previous comments. But Auto Vs Manual, Auto now about same 0-100 etc times or 0.1 sec slower then a Manual, but for official time sometimes it can take 5 passes just to get that 0.1 faster then an Auto. Ive driven 4 models of HSVs now, all Auto, and Ive got bad knees! But grew up on a manual.
Commodore in white.. all it needs is those wheels to be black and you've got a winner.
ive got one of these walkinshaw supercharged hsvs great car but probably not compareable to my c63 or m3 but great to have some australian muscle in the collection!
I know what your saying but LPG systems have changed a lot over the years. I agree that in the pass LPG has had there fare share of problems. This technology is different as it injects the gas in a liquid form which a lot wetter than standard. It lubricates the engine and its not as dry as in the passed. HSV has been done a lot of testing with this set up before releasing it to the public. I guess the last thing HSV want is a lot of headaches with this new technology.
I was grinning from ear to ear like a Cheshire cat. :-D
Pissed her off when I was standing at the back of her ute observing it like there was something wrong with it. She asked me what I was doing & I said I was just looking at it. She asked why I was looking at it & replied in typical smart arse fashion, "Well, you know what the arse end of my ute looks like!"
man I'm in love with the E3 :(
Mate my dad has 1 of these cars he hasn't done any upgrades to it but man it flies
The Walkinshaw exhaust systems deliver power wise but you have to be a lover of rasp and crackle. I rather subdued crackle, zero rasp and a big smooth bass note. Snap Crackle And Pop is for Rice Bubbles.
LPG systems I reckermend you get it straight from the factory because everything in the engine bay would be put in it's right place and you wouldn't have alot of faults with it than you would get from an installer after the factory
Awesome car man! Now only to convince the Mrs that we need one haha
Depending if you're after an ss or an ssv ute and whether you're wanting any performance upgrades etc. For a base ss $25,000 give or take should buy you a decent low kms ute. Good luck with your search!
The only thing I can say is that it would be an AWESOME ride mate! You'll have to upload some pictures/video of it once you get around to enhancing your ride. I've also had quite a few fast muscle cars in my time varying from old school fords to more recent Holden/HSV's including that picture of me standing next to the 520kw e series manual GTS which is under my video!
Cheers mate, thanks for stopping by and voting!
I'm considering upping the ante to a 7.0-litre 427, keep it naturally aspirated with a nice Harrop 8 trumpet carbon fibre manifold & some extra goodies. :D
Hang on! Western Suburbs of Melbourne near Laverton. I've seen this car heaps of times... :-)
actually i work at TNT so this must've been recorded on Hume Rd Laverton behind Gilbertson Rd... nice video btw
Thanks Edward...
truly a beauty!
Such a nice car!
"Enhanced". Love that word.
Aussie's Opel cars ...sooo...BRUTAL
At the end of the day who cares, they are both great cars. Least I can appreciate both makes for what they are.
Yes they're great cars, thanks mate!
Your comment make me laugh, it's great to see you enjoyed the video footage. Thanks & appreciate your comment!
Exhaust launch seems beautiful. Great vid btw! How many kws is this model?
Thanks, with the upgrades it was around 289kw @ the wheels.
Well in factory LPI form its pretty cheap to run. A 50/50 mix of hwy and city driving with the occasional full throttle burst, the best mileage to date would have to be around 430km mark which cost me $30 to $36 to fill depending on fuel prices and that's about 60 to 70kms less than I get with petrol and the petrol costs me over $100 to fill.
appreciate the comment, thanks!
Absolutely love the car!, sounds awesome!
Inside the fuel filler door there's a sticker that says {Do not use E85 fuel} but it might be still possible to use it if the LS3 is tuned for it but I'm not 100% sure!! Hopefully I should be uploading a couple more videos soon as my R8 just got a few exterior upgrades...
Ive noticed a lot of people get the chrome surroundings taken off around when they put an aftermarket exhaust?
Im in the market for an exhaust and most have told me i can keep them on no problem but I havent seen one car with them on.
Otherwise im leaning towards the bimodal. Its pretty important i can keep it quiet since i do a lot of freeway driving and drive early in the morning.
