    2:43 i love, how the Rx-8 simply straightens itself out, whitout much interference, when you decide midst corner that you are done clowning around. It`s as close as foolproof as it gets. It's great on snow too.

    Hey, thats my engine! wooo!
    But a few comments here:
    - The stock airfilter housing is already a cold air intake. Power gains, if any, are probably too small to measure.
    - Decatting and replacing your entire exhaust does almost nothing for power either as the rotary engine doesn't do "exhaust scavenging"
    - My engine builder who isn't new to RX8's tells me that an ECU tune will hardly be worth it either
    Leaving you with one of the following 4 options:
    - Port it
    - Turbocharge it
    - Supercharge it
    - Swap engine

      My prototype should add A little more power to almost any engine.
      A small test video is on my page and I plan on modifying A RX8 in the future with it.

      Even if you port the thing these engines are damn near maxed out from factory without doing something extreme. It's not really all that worth it unless it blows up.

      @@tiondrayhartsfield Absolutely right. That said, people shouldn't get to hung up about power figures anyhow. I slaughter 911 GT3's in my 1.6 non turbo civic. The 8 is a damn fine car as it is. Just lighten it, make it more reliable and you got a winning car right there.

    I think the best moderate option (meaning more than bolt-on but less intense than crazy engine-swaps) these days is a super or turbocharger with a strong/stable tune, some supporting cooling mods (better radiator, upgraded water-pump, thermostat, etc. - check the RX8Club forums), and don't exceed ~7psi; this will put you at ~260-280 rwhp but without sacrificing reliability if you keep up on maintenance (plugs, wires, ignition coils, oil changes, etc.).
    FI used to be a quick death-sentence for Rennies due to people initially not understanding the different approach you have to take when boosting a Renesis in contrast to boosting the older lower-compression 13B's, but there have been a LOT of advancements, discoveries, and innovations in the RX8 communities over the last 5-10 years that render most of these concerns obsolete if you take the time to really do it right.

    If I'm correct I know the shop that owns the white RX-8 in the beginning of the video. It actually was LS swapped. It's from Louisiana. State capital raceway is like 20 mins from my house.

    This video should be: How you make power on your RX8 for 10mins and spend the the next few weeks rebuilding/sourcing new housing and irons. lol jk
    75% of mods to any rotary engine will all be COOLING upgrades. just keeping the damn thing from melting itself.
    The REW swap is a legit solution. but the 1st thing before adding any power to any rotary is getting better side seals and apex and corner seals.

    Probably the only mod that I would include is upgrading the studs if you're shooting for over 500hp. If the trans is the same from the FD rx7, it can handle 700 but the studs can only withstand about 500. Upgrade the studs if you plan to go farther than the 500 mark.

    Not even just fuel cell and fuel pump but you'll need injectors, new coils, sparkplug, an fd alternator and a tune for swaps and turbo kits to work well

      Damn bro. Once you get the opportunity, purchase a nice little Honda EK Civic manual for daily use. Trust me, you'll never need speed again. I drove a Subaru WRX Hatchback afterwards and even though that car just grips and grips and wants you to get up on that turbo, I remembered how scary it was driving fast with the civic and let go of the turbo spool. Im currently trying to fix the old gal and somehow even though in canada we get the worst rust and winter storms, the car has minimal problems!!!!!!

    AEM (same as Mazdaspeed) and RacingBeat air intake have a power gain within the 2% measurement tolerance of modern dynos. I wonder how you can speak of "noticable increase of power". I think this is just a placebo-effect combined with a different sound if you "notice" that. The stock airbox is extremly good for a series production car, there's no significant "blockage" of air.
    Rims might be a good approach, but keep in mind that the stock wheels are also pretty light already. And not everything which optically looks lighter is also lighter in reality. ;-)
    I would really like to see dyno run logs of tuners before and after which proof 15-25 PS by PCM adjustments. I doubt it's that much increase just by software adjustments. 25-30 is already in the range of Porting.

      You can check publicly available on the versatuner demo the difference between a stock tune and a custom tune for the REVi intake. Racing Beat has long history building rotary stuff, for example Mazda Furai engine. I doubt they didn't made the research before releasing their product.

    Naa I like to stay with my stock 13B renesis engine if you ported properly and put proper air intake, exhaust system, turbo charger you will get around 500 to 600 hp without any problems

    Another easier, well, not super easy mod is final drive.. swap out your ring and pinion gears in the diff.. lower top speed, but much better acceleration! 👍🏼

      Juan Rios uhh what are you talking about..? You might be cruising around 2k rpm higher than normal.. but if you’re looking for power, you typically don’t care about fuel consumption. And what gear would you rather be cruising in on the freeway..? FIFTH?! read what you wrote.

      deleting the resonator should not effect how the car runs. i would recommend getting it checked out. or recheck your installation

    Great overview, but please let people know that they should really do deeper research prior turbocharging or supercharging. You can NOT just throw turbos on your engine and tune your PCM. You need to start with a rebuild aimed for turbo lowering the compression via rotor replacement and increasing the clearances since things will get hot and will expand beyond factory specs.

    If you want REW power without as many of the custom parts needed swap it you can rebuild your renesis with Rotor housings from the 1984-85 gsl-e rx7. I am planning on doing this along with a bridgeport in a year or 2.

    You know why you dont really find rx8 turbo kits, right? The renesis is a side port exhaust engine which does not work well with turbos. It would be cheaper to 20b the 8 than it would be to reliably turbo a renesis. And even after spending all that money reliably boosting, you're still driving a ticking time bomb that can go at any moment.

    I kinda think the best overall RX8 build would be with the Pettit supercharger and a streetport for two reasons:
    Firstly, the streetport is known for giving out enough hp for anyone to enjoy at first, and the Pettit supercharger gives that low end torque everyone misses in the stock rotary engine. But, also the supercharger puts less emphasis on engine pressure contrasting a turbo build, meaning the engine's lifespan typically doesnt decrease any more than before!!! It'll also produce something close to 315hp if tuned right, which is absolutely amazing considering how impossible people tell me it is to make power out of these bad boys.
    Me personally, Ive heard stories of the RENNY/REW hybrid engine and im very interested because aftermarket RX7 lightweight rotors are known to go 10Krpm+ on the power figures (and parts of the REW block is stronger for high PSI vs Renny) ... Exactly what i want out of a rotary!!! That and a light bridgeport for that slight brap sound I so love. Coupled that with a very careful supercharger install and I think my 8 could be making a healthy 400hp!!!!

      I mean if you're already going that far you might as well skip the bridge and go semi pp. Save the irons the added stress with a little more up top than the bridge. Also when you say hybrid do you mean the one where they mate the renesiss front cover to the FD so it keeps all the RX8 functions or something else?

    Now we talking. Interesting, love the 20b conversion. But most enthusiasts tell me that the RX8 is not the car to mess around with. Not if you want it to last. My baby has 110 100km and still flying, all I do is put in 100ml of 2 stroke every time I fill her up and I did changed the exhaust a few years ago. Love your advice Mr Driven by Madness, always short, sweet and to the point. Please keep it up.

      For the AEM and the revi intake combined it's almost $1,000 for both. For just 3 to 5 horsepower increase. I would go fo the AEM.

    Great Video and Advice from years of experience. I'm still 4 days away from picking up a 2009 RX8 GT MT in Excellent Condition and the History shows a complete Mazda Service Shop and OEM Cockpit and Under the Hood. Stock. Unmolested. NO CELs. Adult Owned and Operated. Never Raced. So I'm looking at ALL these Mods and Add Ons and I'm asking myself as an Old Muscle Car Guy from the past....Why not just blow 10% Nitrous? Seriously. Has anyone done this? We do it in America and with NO MODS to anywhere on the car(Save for maybe Exhaust) we usually get at least a 7-10% Boost in HP. 235HP to 258HP with the flip of a switch? Granted you have to upgrade internals when you starting blowing higher NO concentration systems. 10% is the Gold Standard for 'Street and Unmodified' Applications. Simple to install. Bottle usually goes in the Trunk with plumbing running underneath to the Intake. Clean, Affordable, and On Demand. Looks like my 1st RX8 is going to the the Nitrous Test Bed since I can't find anything on the web so far.... JP PS I don't plan on Racing or Dragging and at 68yo I'd be out of place in a 'Drifting' Event....

    Rb airduct, kn drop in filter, bhr ignition coil, ap pulleys, short shifter, prolite flywheel, gyro 2pc Front and rear brakes, rx7 store hiflow cat, hks legamax exhaust, street port 221whp... Looks in garage, greddy full turbo kit, mazmamanic 3701r turbo kit upgrade, aem meth kit, oil coolers and etc... Then looks at phone searching for engine swap options.. .. 2 blown engine so far... Might as well sell everything and swap something into it on the next kaboom.

    CAI are pointless as the Mazda engineers have already optimized the intake for power, all you will accomplish is increase in noise not power.

      I think the oem intake system is quite good as it is, i just bought an autoexe air filter i will see if i feel a difference, they are supposed to be quite great.

    With all the respect i wouldn't recommend the first mods. You should make the engine more reliable adding better water pump to keep it cool and remove all the plastic covers in the engine bay for the same reason. Next I would use some nonsynthetic high quality oil for the engine so that it burns it better but I would recommend the use of premix in case of track use. Still the cold air intake is a good idea.

      Be careful you don't do K&N filters on cars with a MAF sensor. Only use it on cars with a MAP sensor as the oil will char the glow-wire used in MAF sensors and will screw up your air fuel mixture over time.

      Platina Hunting that’s why I use a sock on small engines, better filtering than K&N while also looking halarious (great airflow with “tubular filtration area” along with style points if you want with custom seasonal design. “Nothing makes power like a SuperMan sock!” TM

      @@dt-w7660 I've just seen it happen a few times the irons won't last. Lower the compression and turbo it or don't push it too far pass 300hp. Not necessarily saying you can't but it won't end well if you're going for power.

    All those mods will add virtually nothing to the power output of the car. The only way to add power to an RX8 is a ported rebuild. What you'll spend on the mods that you suggest you could put towards a rebuild.Turbo charging a renesis is a bad idea, engine life will be reduced. If you have to go the FI route you're better off super charging it

    Well, i was reading a lot about turbocharging renesis engines, i got to the conclusion that if you want to stutu your mazda, it has to be rx7 or a custom built engine, as stock 13b for rx8 have high compression rates and putting even more compression could make the engine blow or increase considerably the wear and tear of these engines, turbos work better with rotaries designed to have lower compressions to top them up, but definitely not recommended on stock rx8. It makes me cry but not worth the risk, get a billet one

    Do not put a light fly wheel the stock fly wheel weight is specific , in order for a light fly wheel you’ll have to have it weighted the right way!

    Let’s say you did the first few mods on a healthy rx8 and then turbo charged it and ran 8-10 psi what powers could you expect and how many miles could one expect the motor to last before needing to be rebuilt to replace apex seals?
