Charlie Day was terrific in "Pacific Rim". One of the highlights of the whole film. The same is true for "Horrible Bosses". I'm sure that sooner or later he will get around to a more dramatic role and just kill it. In the meantime, "Charlie on IASIP" is by now an iconic TV comic character, ranked up there with the greatest.
he'll be a character in mckay's next biopic and get his laurels. then in the coen brothers' first proper musical (of mice and men where the eldest manages a piano bar)
It's a reference Blu-Ray disc, a reference 4k disc, will be forever a reference for whatever new format gets invented. One of the most visually spectacular FX films ever made, and the story gimmick of the pilots connecting directly into each other's minds and memories give the relationship between the two leads more depth and nuance than you would usually find in a typical blockbuster.
I actually worked on set for Pacific Rim. Had a great time there. Seen Charlie Day a whole bunch of times. Dude goofs off in between takes. Funny guy. Although i spent more time chatting with Guillermo del Toro.
The two-driver scenario felt silly, it wasn't about the effects. I'd agree that compared to Marvel movies it should've been better received but the bar isn't that high on a lot of MCU movies anyway, I'd more make the case why were a lot of MCU films so popular despite their quality.
It wasnt really underrated, i remember how big it was when it came out and still have its cult following. The Sequel killed the hype because Legendary went with Universal
That Lens scratching is THEE thing about Pacific Rim, and all his films with CGI frankly, that always make them seem different. I ALWAYS knew something was different about his shots, but had no idea what it was and thats gotta be it.
It's weird to think that the people behind "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" a show about five of the worst human beings ever put into a sitcom, are actually such great people in real life that they wouldn't even mess with each other in a friendly and common way.
Guillermo is one of the very best. It’s so easy to see. I love his performance in death stranding, and I still watch pan’s labyrinth like 5 times a year.
I love Pacific Rim. I remember I went to see it in theaters. I went with a girl that I liked a lot, so I didn’t only enjoy the company but the movie was great.
Its a classic I can watch again and again. Sure, some dialogue gets corny with the years, but the overall experience, especially the VFX action, is timeless and of premium quality. And its not just the craftsmanship of ILM but what del Toro asked them to do.
I remember when I first saw the trailer for pacific rim. When Charlie day came out I couldn’t stop thinking how badass he looked and was looking forward to the robot fights AND Charlie day. And then pacific rim 2 came out and well…..I like to forget about that one
i love Pacific Rim! it's one of those movies i watch every other year or so. Pacific Rim 2 i turned off after 20 minutes or so though - and i almost never turn off a movie i started watching :D i dunno, it wasn't really doing it for me :P maybe i'll give it another go someday - if only to see charlie :D
Pacific Rim, to this date, is the only movie I’ve watched in theaters and had trouble standing after because I was effectively glued to my seat. Everything about it was great from the humans to the kaijus and the fight scenes. Like other comments have said, it’s a shame they have never (and I mean never) made a second one.
Sorry Charlie, but Glenn likes to stir the pot with Rob, examples all over your guys podcasts haha. But looks like you all have fun ribbing each other.
And then Pacific Rim Uprising happened... I didn't hate the movie, i thought it was fun but the west is not ready for that kind of mech action. They're used to clunky, slow moving walking tanks, not high speed, split second reflexes mech pilots dancing around enemy fire and a thousand missles coming at them from all directions making Neo look like a baby in the Matrix. It's a japanese thing, i'm all here for it, but the majority of the western world is not
Exactly my thought. It was entertaining enough to watch a few times at home but the VFX choreography is just not on that same level of gravitas as the first film. You could see and sense the weight of these machines and beasts. I always suspected it was del Toro's touch and attention to detail that extracted this from ILM. Now that Charlie said this thing about scratching the lense, something I've never heard of, I'm sure he was making the difference. I suppose you do have to be very specific as a director to get the real thing out of the VFX artists, even if it is the legendary ILM.
It's weird that Charlie's voice is naturally perfect for a Del Toro impression. Never would have thought!
Sounds more like Triumph the insult comic dog 😂
I heard only Pappy McPoyle.

Pacific Rim was incredible. Shame there was never a sequel. There was never a sequel.
They should make a prequel
Nah, it's trash. Watching Pacific Rim felt more like being forced to look at a specific rim.
Ah, like how I wish there were more than 3 seasons of Arrested Development, but alas, there are only 3

Yup. No sequel here.
Conan should have Guillermo del Toro for an episode, it'll be amazing😊
Oooh, good call. 👍
That would be fantastic. Del Toro is also funny as Heck!

I'm happy that I finally had the time to binge watch ALL of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia if only to get that reference 🤣

@@UncleAypee wow, you are funny
I really don't understand how Pacific Rim was so underrated. It has better FX by far than pretty much every single Marvel movie made the last 5 years.
Any shot it had of becoming a bigger thing died when they made the garbage sequel sadly
Characters make people forgive anything, and people love the marvel characters

He didn’t perform in death stranding. Not even his voice. It’s just his appearance.

Pacific Rim is so good in 3D. Such a fun movie.
I agree. It definitely works best in 3D
