Thanks for the info. I have two 67 GMC K20's I was debating about getting a lift for one of them. One still has the 305 V6!

Glade the 68 LB 4x4 I purchased had the 6" lift springs figured out already. I went to see what was available for lowering it to a 4".
Yup no springs are available aftermarket.
I rebushed the rear springs with Poly bushings. The problem I ran into is that all the bushing kits. The sleeves are too short by .250-.350" and then the bushings end to end installed were too wide.
I had to purchase DOM tube with the correct wall thickness to make my own sleeves. Then turn off .050" off of each bushing.
Now they are fitted properly and slipped right into the shackles and frame hangers.
Without doing those few things it would have been a hillbilly hack job that would show it's ugly face when you wouldn't expect it. 😂

Did GM paint their transfer cases from the factory?

Yes these years np205 were typically a red oxide color.

I was wondering I have a 72 on a 76 3/4 4x4 chassis. I’m getting close to being done other than paint. It’s an Automatic with the 208 or 203 transfer case. I do have a 205 ford case out of a 78 model. Those won’t interchange will they? I really want a 205 installed. All I’ve ever owned were fords. So I’m really not up on the GM stuff. Thank you And I honestly don’t remember the GM Transfer case number so don’t hold that against me! Someone installed warn lockout hubs but that’s doesn’t really help other than the hubs freewheeling correct?

Driveshaft shaft on opposite side; driver vs passenger drop. Sell the Ford, driver side drop worth more on used market.

There is nothing wrong with a 208; the low range of 203 can be sold as a doubler. It's not worth swapping a 208 for a 205 unless it is used for extreme offroading.
Part-time kit available for the 203.

@@jhoncho4x4 yes I forgot about the opposite side drop. I’m going to double check mine tomorrow, I can’t believe I can’t remember which it is. I was just thinking that even with the hubs disengaged that the gears are still turning so you really don’t have a true 2Hi but I appreciate the advice. Maybe it’s not worth the trouble, not like I’ll be driving it across country. And I didn’t know that about the 208.

@ oh I know I owned them all thru my youth , you just can’t touch em now here in wv ,5-10 thousand for one that’s scattered all over the ground no motors or trans, I’ve owned squarebodys for 40 yrs, never had any problems with them all of them have been indestructible,
