In this video I show you how to make space on your mac by deleting partitions on it. I also show how to create partitions on your mac as well.
Furthermore I show how to delete your hard drive e.g wipe your mac hard drive clean as well. This will erase everything off your hard drive.
I use Mac OS tool; Disk Utility to complete these tasks

my partition button is still grey out so I cannot remove the partitions, help!

Thank you Matt, this is such a great straightforward and informative video, the best one I have seen on the subject. The thing I can't find any videos on is erasing/formatting a Fusion drive, only ones relating to mending split drives?. I am about to run my 2017 iMac off an 2TB SSD and I want to use the original 3TD internal Fusion drive to store my iTunes (Music/TV now) library and files. When I look in Disk Utility there are 3 parts to it - Container Disk2, Macintosh HD and Macintosh HD - Data. If I remove these partitions will I be destroying the SSD part of the drive or is that integral and therefore protected? I want to completely wipe the drive, but have a small install of Catalina (maybe 128GB partition so I can boot from it if needed). Sorry for the long question ☺️ Thanks

I’ve been trying to remove a part ion without success. I’ll give it another go now.
Do you have any advice on moving apps to an ssd but leave files on the existing hd.
Think about this where excel is on the ssd but my spreadsheet files and workbooks are on the normal Hd.

hi thanks for your informative video, However my problem is a bit different , I have a brand new iMac when I have attempted to first use it it has asked me to migrate, migration went fine however, when I had been taking to the password entry page I did entered my password however the wheel started to spin forever. I have contacted apple support but reinstallation of macaroni macOS happens but again it won't take me to the welcome page however it would pop a wrong message for which I need to do all above again and again . note I have an option to return it back and have a new one for 14 days from the day of shipment but that might take weeks to receive the new one ? I appreciate your support in this regard for good of anyone else in future maybe

Please help: I used El Capitan before wanting to try out Mojave so my Mac created an APFS Container which is the only thing I use now. Therefore i wanted to delete the old part to completely use my HDD but I simply can't make it happen. I deleted the old Macinthosh HD part but its now just empty space. I cant fully delete it or give more room to my Mojave APFS part. HELP appreciated !!!

Mackingtosh Hd is not showing I might have deleted by accident how do I regain it?
Not workin!!! In Catalina 10.15.3 the minus button is disabled. After updating to Catalina , it have created "Macintosh HD" & "Macintosh HD" - data named partition. Can you help me to identify & remove unwanted partition from these ones??

How You clone the hole Disk with all Partitions with the Diskutility ?
Does this work on Catalina? I'm trying to erase my internal drive, NOT an external one, but it says "couldn't open device" (I've put a password on it--APFS Encrypted--but remember the code). I've even tried going into terminal and entering a wide range of commands to force the disk into either erasing, or opening, but to no avail.
What should I do? I want to sell this drive, but I can't do that with all of my old data on it.

hy bro , am stuck in wierd thing , i have 2012 mac mini quadcore .actually i dont where i was click but after my mac mini SSD500GB or macintosh HD 1TB both are merge and showing 1.5 TB , i cant find my ssd option in disk utility or at boot time , so i cant install new vantura with opencore in my SSD . will u help me.
In my case, the "partition" on my external hard drive is not called partition but "container disk3 500GB" .. and when clicking on it and later on partition, the "-" is greyed out .. any idea on how to get rid of that "container disk3"?

I’ve just been given a 27 inch iMac,I need to wipe the 1tb hard drive,I’ve gone into recovery mode and utility but the erase it grey and doesn’t do anything,I carnt partition anything because that’s grey and the 1tb is full,I wanted to run legacy core patcher but the hard drive isn’t formatted correctly to do it,I’ve got two macs and a Mac book all running Ventura with no issues so I know how to install legacy core patcher. I don’t know how to wipe the hard drive

I upgraded from Big Sur to Mac Monterey and when I check storage, I have only a flash storage with 121 GB and only 5GB available!! Should I erase the 2 "untitled" drives? One is "Untitled" and the other is "Untitled Data" thanks!
I am trying to reinstall after deleting it previously for a new owner for my laptop. Now I want to install the OS. It keeps on giving me error saying "an error occurred when preparing the installation".
Changed the date and time still nothing.
So I am trying to start from the beginning by erasing everything again. APFS is greyed out. When I choose Mac OS extended journaled, it gives me an error.
I am trying to erase the HD and restore, however, after getting as far as shift alt cmd R into the MAC OS utilities, I click into disk utility to erase the HD and I don't see the MacHD. I came out of all that and went into disk utility to see the main folder being ST31000528AS Media, followed bu container disk1, followed by MacHD and then MacHD data. I really don't know which I am supposed to remove to enable me to go back in to erase the HD to restore to factory settings! Technophobe I am, if you are able to give any pointers that would be great!

I have a partitioned internal running two OS X Half of the drive has high sierra which is HFS and the other half is Mojave which is APFS I have a new I Mac arriving soon and would like to merge both of these partitioned operating systems onto one Version of Mojave on my new iMac, of course it will come with Catalina or maybe even Big Sur although the latter is unlikely so I would roll back Catalina to Mojave For my Music digital audio workstation needs, how can I accomplish this without losing the programs during the transfer and have one single 2 TB SSD with one version of Mojave for all programs currently residing on my dual partitioned iMac.. I know I kind of rephrase the same question but I want to be clear, my Assumption would be to unload everything from the smaller partitioned drive onto an external and then delete the partition, do the iMac to iMac Vulcan mind meld thing and then reintroduce the programs from my external back on to the new version Mojave on the new machine but is there an easier way?
Can one partition be deleted while keeping the data on another partition?

@@Delmonda I used "Clean My Mac" and I saw now the other volume is gone! I'm not sure what I dod for that but I was removed some application and did several scan and di some other thing then it gone.

Click command + R to reset your MAC and check them with connection.
If you buy a macbook pro, format it with windows 10 so Mac is completely gone, are there available win 10 drivers for everything? I love that laptop but I have a deep hatred for the Apple operating system.
My mac won't boot hence trying to use Internet recovery. But erase feature won't work 😒

What if you have 2 internal HD drives? One says Macintosh HD and the other Macintosh HD-Data? I don't recall why I created another HD... think they are mostly same stuff on each but can you explain how to remove one. Also, I formatted a thumb drive to Journaled but you mentioned AFPS being newer format. Should I format my new external drives to AFPS? Thanks, the video rocks!
RobLV007 it depends on what mac you have to know how to remove the hard drive.
Unless it’s a Mac Pro tower desktop (not iMac, MacBook or Mac mini) it sounds like a cd drive has been removed and replaced by another second drive
Matt Talks Tech it’s just a iMac purchased 2017ish. I have 2 log ins icon...for some reason made a second logon. I have 2 HD’s showing but one is Data. I should just be able to delete the other since they are essentially the same. Seems my system runs slow too.... Do u have a video on merging or deleting 2 Internal HD’s ?
