It seems like with a couple hours of 3D printing, you could make custom holders. They would fit your needs exactly, and it wouldn't take too much time in CAD to design them. I personally would probably want an option where I could have socket sets and have them fit together like puzzle pieces so that I can add two of the same sizes or add more as I expand each set.

It really came out awesome Dan! I wish they had more colors or maybe variations on colors, like red with a white stripe, to mark different sockets...but you can always make a like on the mat with a white Inkzall or something. I also wish they used a smaller screw and an expanding peg(Kinda like a drywall anchor) to screw down the 1/4" but that's really splitting hairs. I'll never needs something like this but I damn sure want it! Definitely worth it for a Pro!

Im setting up my new box now...and its killing me lol. I cant afford the grid but Ive drooled over it. In my old box I had play mat EVA foam cutouts (shadow lining) and it was great...until I would buy a new tool, then scramble to find a place that was easy to cut and add it...which resulted in tools scattered.
Now, Im using the magnetic organizer things, and the Ernst socket trays, which are ok, fairly cheap and saves me on cutting foam. I still have to cut some of course because...OCD lol.
But the weird thing is that, I had an old Mac Christmas Tree setup, and it was packed. Now I have a Matco 2bay and hutch, and things are looking kinda empty LOL. My top drawer is packed but its amazing what I was able to do with fewer tools (not by choice, the whole cutting and all would keep me from getting something I actually could have used). Now...I can finally get a nice set of swivel wrenches, and I have been eyes the Wera drivers...and the Nepros, although those are like fine cutlery. Not sure if Id be using them or just looking at them purdy tools LOL.
Nice box. Im probably going to do a similar vid...once Im done in about oh...5 months? 9 tops!

I am just getting into matco products I don't have a dealer so it's full retail from the website for me, I have been looking at the tool grid a great option but the price is a killer even though in all reality you'd probably spend the same on putting any other bands together to make some thing work. Looks really good. Can't wait to get my new setup up and going. Working out of 3x72in boxes is killing me or maybe the fact I keep buying tools is killing me lol. My 12 point game is weak, I think I am going duo socket by grey pneumatic for my 12 points so I can have thin wall and 12 point.

Damn that’s expensive, it hurts to spend that type of money when it’s not perfect (wobbly, raw cuts, extra holes for dirt) and not tools! I might just 3D print mine or make a mold to pour them.... especially for some lime green! I’m still debating whether this is a solid solution or design my own with this in mind...

Seems like an awesome product, I just can’t wrap my mind around just *how damn expensive* it is... like... $150 for JUST the *plastic* (sure its a “nice” plastic, but..) “pegboard” backing-board... Just sounds like a seriously ludicrous price... Even $50 would be a little pricy for that pegboard IMHO...
I just do NOT see the justification in that price, it’s not like they’re *hand drilling* every individual hole or something.... I don’t see ANY way that the “labor” could realistically be a significant aspect of this products manufacturing cost... Definitely CNC’d (the pegboard) and they surely have reusable molds for the other pieces, no doubt...
I can see the pieces with the magnet installed as being a semi-fair price, I’ll give em THAT one... but even after considering the cost of their materials used (assuming QUALITY plastics...), then you have labor (MINIMAL), manufacturing (the ‘molds’) and then the *design/engineering* cost (which yes, it’s a brilliant design & all, but as you stated *it isnt perfect* and it seems the Design aspect is VASTLY being “overvalued” re: the List Price to customers..) and that is MOSTLY it...
It just doesn’t make sense to me at all, and I figure that they could HALF the asking price and STILL have incredible margins for this product... In fact, they would probably make *MORE* by most likely selling muchhh much higher volumes of this product... Just send out a bunch of ‘no-strings-attached’ thorough kits to TH-camrs & if it’s a good product, (which this seems to be...) then for real- it’s probably the *best* exposure/marketing strategy for increasing awareness and *creating* customers out of thin air and in turn they move MUCH more product & MUCH MORE $$ MADE... (side note: this is something more manufacturers would/SHOULD wholeheartedly embrace this if they got *smart*...)
Ugh, sorry for the “essay”, but having *some* insight into this products design & obvious manufacturing processes and then seeing what they’re then pricing it at... the complete *ludicrous/BS Alarm* was deafeningly loud to me...
Anyways, clean drawers & organization you have btw 👌 and I still appreciate your video..!!
    Cheers

Ty Comes - TVPC Production yeah, it may not be worth it if the person doesn’t have that many sockets. But if you have as many sockets as me, and growing, it’s really not much more then a rail setup. I would need 12 rails at $10 each just to start at $120 and I would still need several more to cover the ratchets and the extensions! It still can be hard to justify for some people, there’s so many job types out there. A lot of people may never know about this option because they don’t have a Matco dealer. So hopefully this company can grow and have more selling options then just the Matco truck in the future. Thanks for your opinion! 👍👍 and thanks for watching!👍

I never had them in a cart, if you’re rolling in a normal shop they should be fine. If there’s major ditches and a lot of hopping around in the shop, it may be an issue and I would go for locking socket holders. Ernst and Carlisle has some

Hey Dan , I just saw tool box widget’s socket organizer ,,, naw I still like the Matco system . How’s it working out for you ? It’s been about a year that you’ve had yours ?
For the extensions you used which piece for them ?
I still love your organization !!

Still the best if you’re a seasoned tech. I find myself buying more stuff so it works out perfect. For the extensions I really like the long thin drawer that most toolboxes have. But if you don’t have too many extensions then putting them on the top drawer with the padded perches would do just fine. Staggering them works the best.

@Bob Johnson the regular 3/8 should work fine, you could pair them together and face the forks out. On the universal ones, I would have to see. Seems like as long as you balance them in right, they should stay.. maybe put them against the wall of the drawer?🤷‍♂️

The medium wrench holders won't fit on any of them. If you use the flat large holders they will work but take up a lot of space in the drawer. I would like to find a way to be able to stand them up on edge so it would take up a smaller amount of space.

Couldn't you just buy some chap wooden peg board and use the plastic inserts on that ?

    • @AutobahnDan
      @AutobahnDan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Wooden pegboard holes are more spread apart, you would actually lose more space and have less options to organize. Also, the screws would not hold, They will break off over time because tools are heavy. You can use screws and nuts and washers but that will be more work..

200 dollars for a 49 inch by 22 1/2 inch piece of plastic they are out of their fucking minds! That doesn’t include all the pieces for the sockets either that just includes the holders for a couple ratchets and extension. How these companies stay in business is beyond me. But I guess if you are getting people to pay 200 bucks for 3 dollars worth of plastic you have pretty good profit margins. I would just go buy a 3D printer and make my own.
