21:50 yes, it actually is the same animation. Sir John and Baloo have both the same animation asset (it was usual back in the day to use one asset for different movies to spare some money in the production)
It was less recycling to spare money and more intentional homage. These movies were made at a time when you wouldn't see them outside the initial theatre release and re-releases years apart. So it was a real easter egg to be able to catch it. And with how much they would have to search their records for the animation cells, they might as well have done unique animations.
Prince John lacks a mane because he was originally designed to be a tiger, but the animators decided to change him to a lion without fully adjusting his design, leaving him with a lioness-like appearance without a mane; this also serves as a visual representation of his weakness and lack of power compared to his brother, King Richard, who has a full mane as a lion should. This is my favorite movie!!
Honestly this is one of those Disney Bronze Age film that most 90’s kids remember watching on their VHS tapes along with _Aristocats, Winnie the Pooh, Fox and the Hound, Great Mouse Detective,_ and _Oliver & Company_ Also it’s worth noting that this film had many voice actors that were in previous Disney films before _Robin Hood_ and ones released after _Robin Hood_ the obvious ones being Phil Harris voice of Little John was Baloo and Thomas O’Malley in _Jungle Book_ and _The Aristocats_ and especially Pat Buttram and George Lyndsey who voice The Sheriff of Nottingham and Trigger the Vulture were Napoleon & Lafayette in _The Aristocats_ and Luke and Deadeye in _The Rescuers,_ along with John Fiedler who voiced The Sexton Mouse was the voice of Piglet from _Winnie the Pooh,_ Deacon Owl in _The Rescuers_ and the Porcupine in _The Fox and the Hound,_ Barbara Luddy who was Mother Sexton and Mother Rabbit voiced Lady in _Lady & the Tramp,_ Merryweather in _Sleeping Beauty_ and Kanga in _Winnie the Pooh_ plus Monica Evans and Carole Shelley who voiced Maid Marian and Lady Kluck voiced the Geese Sisters, Abigail and Amelia in _The Aristocats_
@@matsv201 But _Oliver & Company_ was still a part of the Disney Bronze Age before the debut of _The Little Mermaid_ which started the Disney Renaissance
Fun fact: the real reason why Prince John upped the taxation so much wasn't for personal greed. His brother Richard was taken hostage by the Austrian Habsburg family while returning from the Crusade, and Prince John was raising the money to free his brother. This also indirectly led to England losing Normandy as an offshore territory, which earned him the nickname John the Landless.
The guy who did the voice of the Rooster, Roger Miller, was already a well-known country singer at that time, so if you liked his songs in this movie, you should try checking out more of his music. Probably one of his best known ones was "King of the Road".
One of my biggest and most favorite comfort movies. Robin Hood always makes me smile and I remember so badly wanting to be Maid Marian when I grew up lol
This was the greatest voice talent team of the time (maybe of all time), including the great Phil Harris (Little John). This voice talent team also worked on The Jungle Book and The Aristocats, and worked separately on other projects.
My mom's cousin was researching the family tree and found my 25x great grandfather was Robin Longstridge Loxley a.k.a. Robin of Loxley a.k.a. Robin Hood. He was not a fox. I have heard a theory that visually, the bulk of Prince John's forces being animals not native to England implies he's so dislikes, he had to hire foreign mercenaries while King Richard was away. Also, on a historical note, Richard the Lionheart more heavily taxed the English people in order to finance his crusade. He reigned for 15 years and only spent 6 months of that in England. King John was so unpopular, there has and likely will never be a King John II.
Lol, love Prince John's lines: Prince John:"Stop...heehee! Stop HISSING in my ear!" Prince John:"HISS! You DELIBERATELY dodged!!" Hiss:"Sire...please..." Prince John:"Stop SNIVELING and HOLD STILL!" Of course, there are so many great lines in this movie((saw it at least a thousand times when I was a kid) Little John:"Borrow? Boy, are we in debt!" Friar Tuck:"GET OUTTA MY CHURCH!" Sheriff:"Wait a minute...is the safety on Ol'Betsy?" Trigger:"You betcha Sheriff!" Sheriff:"Thats what I'm afraid of..." 21:44 Yes, it is. Disney reused a bunch of the cel's(cells?)from their movies. Maid Marian clapping during "Phony King of England"is taken from Snow White and Little John shaking his head is the same as Baloo from "Jungle Book". I think a little of Marian dancing is also Snow White, or Duchess from "Aristocats"as well.
this was my favorite Disney film as a kid, grew up hearing the legend of robin hood alongside the legend of king arthur, even got too see this as a Pantomime in school. no matter how many times I hear this story, this version will always be my favorite.
I was obsessed with this movie as a child. It has the highest of highs (every time Robin tricked Prince John) and the lowest of lows ("Not in Nottingham"). BTW, there are some pretty good covers of "Not in Nottingham" on TH-cam.
30:01 Although it isn't really made to be that obvious, I think Robin Hood in this movie was slightly flawed. He clearly struggled somewhat with a temptation of greed. Sure he was very charitable and a morally good person, but during his heists he would consistently try to go for more than he needed too, despite this often compromising his opportunity to escape. You noted this at the end was he chose to keep taking more and more of the gold in Prince John's bedroom, taking excessive risk for a relatively small increase in the amount he had stolen, which is especially bad as this almost lead to his capture and the failure of their true objective in saving people from the prison.
This is kinda random but I was in a Robin Hood: the musical performance. It was so fun, I rewatched this movie to prepare and this easily became my comfort Disney movie.
Definitely my favorite adaptation of the Robin Hood mythology...I am a huge fan of Lady Cluck and Father Tuck in this. LOL So happy to see Sophie reacting to this classic.😁
I always loved this film as a child, especially for the soundtrack and character design. My favorite however remains The Rescuers from 1977, I hope sooner or later you will make a reaction video of that! It's not perfect or particularly complex, but it has some great characters and a unique setting I hope you'll give it some thought
The word nutsy just simply means crazy or stupid. Like, "This guy is absolutely nuts!" That's all, and only sounds similar to the word nazi by coincidence.
Robin Hood's tale is kinda inspired by real events. There really were noblemen turned robbers in England around the time of the (failed) third crusade. When landowning nobles returned home, some of them found themselves impoverished and started their own bandit and highwayman operations. Needless to say, Robin Hood romanticizes the hell out of it all.
The classic movies ARE Disney's golden era. The 90s films like Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid and Lion King were both the revival and swan song of their 2D animation efforts.
Apparently Byron Howard (the director of Zootopia) said that _Robin Hood_ was one of his favorite Disney films and the character of Robin Hood served as the inspiration for Nick Wilde.
I always dig your reactions, and it's cool to see you dipping into the pre-Renaissance Disney Animation waters - like you did w/ 'Lady and the Tramp', but this time choosing a film from the immediate post-Walt's death era that often gets written off as some sort of "dark age" or whatever (I kinda used to do that, too). I'll be game if you cover more from this particular period! Especially 'The Rescuers', and its Renaissance-era sequel.
There is a lot of recycled animation from this era of films. Snow White, Jungle Book, and Aristocats were used for the dance scene alone. Little John was drawn off of Baloo’s character model and even voiced by the same actor.
On Disney + you can see an alternative ending, I like the alternative ending more, Robin was actually hurt by an arrow on the river scene and little John took him to the church so Miss Marian took care of him while little John goes outside to find things to heal Robin without nothing that Prince Jhon and Hiss we're following him, Prince Jhon goes into the church with a knife to kill Robin and Marian but then King Richard comes in and stops his brother, he was angry because he left the kingdom on his hands and he just damage the kingdom to take all the money from it, he took the crown back and sentence him and Hiss to prison, the rest was the same, Robin was pardoned and he marry with Marian
10:16 actually even today there is no age limit for a bow and arrow in England, as English archers trained from an early age, and technically we're still legally supposed to practice using them every weekend after church. so even for a cartoon its actually historically accurate.
@9:50 In some places and time periods, tax collectors worked off commission and would get a percentage of whatever they collected. Naturally, this encouraged a lot of corruption.

Robin Hood Prince Of Thieves is a life action movie. Also you might enjoy Robin Hood: Men In Tights. But to get some of the jokes you should watch Prince Of Thieves first.
Roger Miller was a very popular country singer at the time (well, more like country/pop), and his songs, including these, have overall aged very well. A few other ones I'd recommend are the classic 'King of the Road' (which has been covered by, like, everyone), as well as 'Do Wacka Do', 'Chug-a-Lug' and 'You Can't Roller-skate in a Buffalo Herd', among others. (Yes, he was a weird guy.)
This movie was initially going to be a retelling set in the old West, hence why Western actors like Pat Buttram, Roger Miller, and others were cast. Then they changed the setting back to 12th Century England. John is the reason England is a constitutional monarchy. He was such a tyrant that practically the entire noble class of England revolted and forced him to sign the Magna Carta.
Hi girl ! I don’t usually comment but i would love to give you some old films idea to review ! If you love a musical a little bit dark , a tyran and a beautiful story you can totally watch “le roi et l’oiseau” ( the king and the bird ) by Paul Grimaud and Jaques Prevert !
Recommend seeing the 1938 movie version with Errol Flynn, Adventures of Robin Hood. Great sword duels and terrific music by Erich Korngold, the John Williams of 1930s and 1940s
Haven't watched this video, but just curious to hear from those who did, if she had any bad takes on this movie as well like she did with aladdin, since robinhood is also a thief.
Many kids love perfect characters (no flaws) as they love to emulate them in acting games after watching. Who loves portraying Captain Kirk or Spock or Superman when they were young. That's who the target audience was. Adults know different, of course (that perfect characters are boring and redundant (see girl boss characters of today's movies)). We need flaws of some kind for characters to be interesting.
It's also important to give kids a strong moral sense when they are young before getting into the complexity of ambiguity. Otherwise they will consider everything to be the same level of grey.
"We need flaws of some kind for characters to be interesting" - Speak for yourself, please. To me at least it certainly is not flaws or perfection that make or break a character. It's realism and internal logic. And the example you give ("girl boss characters") is actually an example of exactly this. Forcing a character to be perfect where it makes no sense for them to be, is bad. But the same applies to forced flaws. Don't invent a flaw for your characters just so they are flawed. Find a logical character and (if you have the runtime or space for words), show where some of their traits come from. And really, how sad would it be if we all just wanted to see flaws in our adult life, to reflect our experiences in reallife? I find it so much better to still, even as an adult, take in the ways that characters are perfect and try to emulate them in my life. To believe (within reason) in the good in people and see that society is not just a collection of flaws, but also of perfected aspects and potential to achive more.
@ Yep. Was speaking generically. Of course there's more to be said about this, but I really didn't want to make this a long point or get too dep into covering everything it infers. But thanks for adding to the subject.🙂

Recommendations I had to double-check that you haven't done any of these already. Who Framed Roger Rabbit A live action animation mix like nothing before or since! You'll laugh; you'll cry; you ask, "how did they do that?!" Fantasia Beautiful classical music and Disney artist given the assignment, "Draw this." Much of it doesn't really have a story so much as just a marvel to watch and listen. Dumbo The movie that literally saved the studio. It's short but sweet and heartfelt. Skip the live action reboot.
Love this movie, but I prefer the alternative ending. I think it's available on Disney plus. The animation is unfinished and some of the voice actors are different. It's not the biggest difference, but I think it's a more satisfying series of events.
Prince John and Sir Hiss are an underrated comedy duo

Recommendations
I had to double-check that you haven't done any of these already.
Who Framed Roger Rabbit
A live action animation mix like nothing before or since! You'll laugh; you'll cry; you ask, "how did they do that?!"
Fantasia
Beautiful classical music and Disney artist given the assignment, "Draw this." Much of it doesn't really have a story so much as just a marvel to watch and listen.
Dumbo
The movie that literally saved the studio. It's short but sweet and heartfelt. Skip the live action reboot.
For the next reaction, it should be the Simpsons Movie
Love this movie, but I prefer the alternative ending. I think it's available on Disney plus. The animation is unfinished and some of the voice actors are different. It's not the biggest difference, but I think it's a more satisfying series of events.
This movie metal gear rising revengeance for Disney;"accidental, political, unique, influential"and just like owls, real"hoot"! Also forgot diversity.
What’s up, Sophie? When you next do your next movie review next week? Have you seen hoodwinked yet? If you haven’t then please look at it. 👋🤔
