      @Yehonala Tseuhi, J'ai aussi eu un peu peur au début quand j'ai commencé à colorier le fond. Mais je l'ai fait et tu peux, l'essentiel est d'essayer et la prochaine fois ce ne sera certainement pas si effrayant! 😉

    I know it's been a while since you posted this, and have had bad luck with responses when its been a while..
    My question is, How do you decide where the sun shines on the object or area you are coloring? By Sunshine, i mean the "highlights to give depth"?

    • @Alchemyofcolor
      @Alchemyofcolor  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Robyn Fairchild, It is fine to ask 😉 Before start coloring, I choose for myself the side where the sun shines and try to follow it. With this particular picture, I cannot say that I had succeed with shadows, sometimes I just followed my intuition... 😅 And I'm still learning.

    Honestly I wasnt going to do this page in this book. I think you changed my mind. I read your description and see you don't like the effect the blender marker had on the grass. I use my blender marker for things that are ultra smooth in real life like when doing skin or a birds beak for example. I can't imagine why you would want to use it after putting in all that beautiful work on textured grass? If there is still white showing through there are a couple suggestions I would make. One would be too use a waterbased marker as a base. It would have to be water based as these pages are double sided and unless you primed the page with a satin glaze, alcohol markers would bleed thru onto the other side. Another suggestion would be to use a yellow or green highlighter. It will make the above layers pop. I use alot of markers as a base in alot of my colorings as I'm lazy and don't always have the time to build layer after layer. The marker base works so beautifully and after it has dried you can layer your pencils over it. You can do the same thing with inktense pencils after you have activated them with water. Do a test on the color palette page and see what you think. Also I see you like to color in your backgrounds first. You can get a workable fixative to use pastels on the background first if you wanted. Did you know you can also erase pastels and you can also color over pastels with your pencils? If you like the pastel look but don't want to go to the trouble of the above I have a perfect solution for you. I have seen many colorists do it and I have done it as well in smaller images. It's better shown them explained. Check Lisa mitrokhin channel and watch the video coloring with a razor blade. You will love it I promise! You will also love her channel as it has alot of special effects and methods I have yet to see in any other place. Also for some cool tips on how to use the blender pencil for broad highlights
    check out the channel Julie's passion for coloring. Watch the video that she did last week it's 13 minutes long and it's the video with the bottle on it from basfords new book world of wonders. Wait till the end and see the magic you can do with a blender pencil.
    It's not just for blending pigments together or creating a smooth look. It can be used for other things. I see you are frustrated with your blending and am trying to help. Take no offense. I think your colorings are beautiful and with each one you do I see you getting better at certain things. Even though you are already way talented. I love the flowers and the truck you did in this page. But seriously when you took that blender marker to the grass I was like nooo don't do it. You see the alcohol in that marker completely dissolves the pigments and melds them together. Which destroyed the texture of your grass. No big deal you can always layer more pencil on because alcohol blenders can restore the tooth to the page if it's all smashed down. That's a trick I learned a month ago. This would've maybe been the opportunity to do that acrylic you were taking about. A acrylic grass and background would've been cool. Which book do you think you will be getting after this one is complete? I'm jeolous of your posca pen as I didn't know they came in that small of a size till recently. I have the three pack with the bigger nibs but I make it work. There is so many cool effects you can do with posca pens with water and stars and highlights etc. The list and possibilitys are endless. The next time I get to go shopping online I'm going to be picking up 3 or 4 colored ones cause I learned some really cool tricks you can do with them. I hate mentioning other people channels on your channel and only do so because I think it will help you with some things I see you are not happy with. I think you are a perfectionist like me and I also think you are working too hard with your pencils when you could be using other techniques to make your life easier in some cases. Let me know what you think of the coloring with a razor blade video. I've see many colorists do it but never saw that many different techniques around it. I hope this helps and I can't wait to see what you do with those huge last two double page spreads of this book. P.s
    I loved the sky as well.

      @Blank Mission, Thank you so much, you always give me a lot of very useful information and helpful advice! I used that blender marker for the first time and really didn't know how to use it right, so I'll keep your advice in mind, it will help me for sure. By the way, I already tried to color with my new acrylic paints, but as you said, the first experience does not always turn out good, so now I'm in real doubt should I show it to anyone or not... I definitely made many things wrong with acrylic paints and I need to learn how to use them. I have a long way to go with it. Even though I've watched a few tutorial videos about it, it looked easy, but when I started my own picture I realized that I need to try it by myself to understand better and it's not so easy 😂. I will keep watching the channels you gave me, so thank you again, it helps!
      About the next coloring book.... Well, I have two more books by Johanna Basford: Secret garden and Lost ocean. But honestly, I'm not sure that I will continue to color only these two. I love her books and they are perfect for learning how to color backgrounds and complement a picture with your own details, but I would like to try something different as well. I never learned the art and I have to admit that it's hard for me to draw things by myself and color the sky, for example, it always scared me lol. I hope one day I will be able to color like other amazing colorists, but for now I have to learn and learn a lot of things ☺️.

      @@Alchemyofcolor I have a personal playlist called water sky effects techniques and inspiration. I will make it public. It has the best of the best on it for water and all different types of sky backgrounds. Cloudy, night, stars, Galaxy's etc. If you can think of it, it's in there. On this playlist are some of those people from Instagram that you refer too. And some of your videos are on there as well because you are just as good as any of them. Only compete with yourself. In time when you learn how to do other things like skin tone or color metals or whatever it is you will be just as good if not better then anyone at doing the things you haven't done yet. You have so much talent. Maybe acrylic isn't for you? Maybe you just need a flow agent to add in to your acrylic paints? There are plenty of additives you can add to your paints to make them do what you want. Check out the golden website. The flow agent makes the paints flow better and stops them from drying so quicky. It makes them not so sticky. But mistakes are good it's how we learn and remember it's just a page in a book! If you have a printer and scanner you can always practice on that first. Or if your unsure of something in the middle of doing a page, scan and print it out and you can use that partially colored page to see if what you want to do will look good or work or not. Don't be afraid to experiment. Check out the playlist in your free time and you will be able to see how these different types of skys or backgrounds are done. I made that playlist because I struggle with water and want to improve my technique. Also when I mentioned all those different channels last time it was to give you a rounded experience of the different mediums out there, what you can do with them in a coloring book etc. I know mixed media is so overwhelming at first. It took me ages to figure out that I liked working with inks and watercolor mediums the most. I figured that out both by buying open stock items on websites like dick blick and Jackson's etc. And also by watching alot of different channels and figuring out what effects I liked and what would be the most fun for me. In this way I didn't have to waste a million dollars on products that didnt work for me. I would suggest perhaps maybe looking at a video flip through of the books magical Dawn or inky and ivy. These books will definitely challenge you if you want to learn how to color metals, gold, silver, skin tones, wood, gemstones and crystals, glass bottles and alot of other things including cats and animals, fire, water, lanterns, smoke, mushrooms, dragons etc. I'm particularly keen on basfords new
      book world of wonders myself as it has alot of trees, houses and alot of different things from her usual books that I would love to color and also alot of the pages leave room in the backgrounds and foregrounds to stencil in or draw in moons and trees and that sort of thing. These are just a few ideas for you but look around and Im sure you will find a book that suits you.
