I’ve only recently become interested in adult coloring and had never realized how complex this art form can be. I’ve heard the World of Flowers book referenced many times and know it’s very popular amongst colorists, but I’ve never seen a flip through of the entire book. I’m astonished to see just how intricate it is. What a triumph for you to have finished such a colossal project! You must be elated and know such a feeling of accomplishment in having done so. Even though the pages are separated and the book has seen life and traveled across countries, I can tell that you handled it with love and care. I’m finding that the actual coloring is hard enough, but a truly talented colorist must also understand color theory and have an eye for different color palettes - what works and what doesn’t. I’m amazed, but not surprised, at how beautiful and technically sound your earliest works are, even if some were replicas (I know first hand that replicating is not always an easy thing to get right). You definitely have an innate talent for this type of art. Finally, I too really love your work on “The End” page in this book- the last flower that you colored. When you turned the page and all of that gorgeous pink jumped out at me, I immediately went to my happy place. Please continue sharing your work and posting tutorials on TH-cam, because I and so many other budding colorists can learn a lot from you.

When you say that I already understand the world of coloring...well, not entirely. What I do understand is that I don’t understand nearly enough! When I say that I only recently became interested in coloring, I mean very recently. I’ve been considering it for less than three weeks. It all began when I started writing letters to a friend and wanted to draw (trace really) and color something small in one corner of a piece of the letter stationery. I don’t have extra money to spend on coloring supplies and really had no intention of embarking on the world of coloring, but found a set of 50 colored pencils for next to nothing on an Amazon special deal. They’re not bad. I traced the outline and then filled in details and colored a small branch of cherry blossoms on the stationery, and it was definitely an amateurish effort. It wasn’t terribly good but also wasn’t horrible. After that, and before I’d even done any research on the basics of coloring (choosing colors, blending, shading, layering, etc). or before I had watched any videos posted by colorists, I decided to gauge my abilities and started coloring a much larger image of a hummingbird (found the image online). I only got as far as a few of the bottom feathers and thought it looked so horrible that I threw it away and decided that I definitely needed to do research. I’m a researcher at heart and always do quite a bit before jumping right in and embarking on a new project. So, right now most of my time is being spent researching different colored pencils (wax-based vs oil-based and reading reviews on different brands), and learning how to even begin coloring (it’s not as easy as one might think) by looking at a lot of images of finished pieces and watching a lot of videos posted by different colorists. I’ve been using only those inexpensive colored pencils and coloring small flowers on letters to my friend. My next little project is a gardening watering can holding tulips, a big flower, and greenery, with a butterfly floating above, and I plan to try some of your techniques. 🙂 It’s going on a letter to my friend. I’m waiting to color it because I broke down and bought the Prismacolor 12-pc Botanical Garden set, because I love the colors, it was on an Amazon special deal and very inexpensive, and I’m eager to try this brand of pencils that so many artists love and swear by. But Amazon delivery is running very late now, which is frustrating, because I’m dying to use them. 😟 I’ve printed some free images, and a few from various coloring books, off the Internet and am eager to try some larger pieces. I’ve not yet purchased a coloring book because they can be pricey. When the time comes that I can buy one, I’m not sure what book I’ll choose. I love flowers and birds, and would love to try to replicate some of your pieces, so Johanna’s World of Flowers seems like a good choice. But, you’re right; there are tons of books out there. I really love Christine Karron’s fairie series, but those drawings seem like something a colorist more advanced than I should tackle. In fact, I would absolutely love to see what you would do with one of her books. Have you considered coloring her drawings? Have you watched any of the videos on her TH-cam channel of her actually doing a mixed media color illustration? They’re incredible. Wow. @@roldroyd Prismacolor pencils is a good choice, I like then a lot 😉 And I just got Christine Karron’s fairie coloring book, I'll do a flip through soon. I never colored faces so it will be a new experience for me. If you consider to get World of flowers coloring book than keep in mind that it has a lot of empty spaces for drawing backgrounds by yourself. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend her books for beginners... But Rita Berman's books for instance are small size books and have many details in each pictures which I think is great to color and have fun without worrying about the backgrounds and stuff 😃

Also, I’m thrilled that you bought one of Catherine Karron’s books and am eager to see what you do with it. In the comments section for one of your videos, someone asked if you were going to continue doing “color alongs” (a term I’d not yet heard), and you answered that you were no longer going to post them here and that your finished works would be posted on Instagram. Are what you label as “tutorials” and what she called “color alongs” the same thing? If so, does that mean that you are no longer going to post these amazing videos of you coloring while music plays in the background? You are an incredibly talented colorist; your color choices, techniques, and overall aesthetic set you apart from so many others. I’ll be heartbroken if I can no longer watch you work and see the stunning results you produce.
Amazing what a display of different colors to use different pallets I really like the page with the birdhouse is hanging, but the second to last picture that was my favorite. Everything was just beautiful.❤

Absolutely divine coloring. I have such a long way to go before my coloring pages are close to being adequate. I am a senior beginner and quite frustrated. Not good at layering or using colored pencils at all. But I will keep trying. Love your artwork.

I colored many pictures, so practice is important. Even now I cannot tell that I'm satisfied with my work but I like to do it very much 😊
Alchemy Of color, stunning pictures!!! You have a beautiful eye for color and are so talented! I am not sure if this was mentioned, but my local office supply store spiral binds all my coloring books by Johanna Basford so that I can lay my pictures flat. You probably know this already but its fairly cheap ($9.00 CAD) and it would keep your pages together. Just in case you didn't know!!
Your work is incredible! A true inspiration, especially for someone like me who is just staring to work with pencils. May I ask if you seal your pages with anything to protect them?

Alchemy Of color, stunning pictures!!! You have a beautiful eye for color and are so talented! I am not sure if this was mentioned, but my local office supply store spiral binds all my coloring books by Johanna Basford so that I can lay my pictures flat. You probably know this already but its fairly cheap ($9.00 CAD) and it would keep your pages together. Just in case you didn't know!!

@Chantel Schroeder Thank you very much! Yes, I seal all my pages with a fixative spray like this: amzn.to/41tZPAa I didn't try exactly this one yet but mine is similar. I cover every page doesn't matter what media I used because even pencils are smudged on opposite side.
