Congrats! It's a pretty decent camera with nice photo capabilities! Don't bother of thinking about Nikon being better or whatever anyone tells you. I was choosing between this and Nikon 3200. I must say that i like more the Canon's ergonomics and menu layout than Nikon's but Nikon offer a slighlty better crop capabilietes ( if this is your priority ) and for video of course - an external mic wich is a real advantage over Canon.

Medo Tech So do you have to buy a SD card separately? And if so what would be the best kind?
SheDragon Liontamer The dealer has offers, most of the time it comes with an sd card. Although if it doesn't, I suggest a 8gb card would be great if you intend to get much photos and scenery, however a 4gb would work fine for minimal photos.

Thanks, yeah it definitely looks more professional! Unfortunately it won't shoot video before I get it a decent (Class 10) memory card, so that's definitely an advantage of the S4 Zoom that works pretty well on a Class 4 card.

you sir just bought the worst ILC camera for video on the market

It does autofocus during video, but the Focus motor is so noisy it is unbearable! So under video I will just focus manually.
Well, about the 60FPS support... It do support 50 fps at 720p which is pretty decent, it good be better though. I bought this camera for roughly 300$, the closest ILC (the 100D, 600D and Nikon 3200D) are all at least 250$ more expensive here in Denmark. So I decided that I would rather settle with the lower framerate (30FPS) to spare 40 % of the price.
At has a "ring" at the front of a lens!? I don't really know what focuspeaking is...
It isn't that bad? FullHD at 30FPS (maybe 24fps is actually cooler?) or 720P at 60FPS that is pretty decent. Then it shoots pretty good photos too :-)
I must admit that the microphone issue is annoying, but I guess it won't bother me till I buy an external mic :-)
I was pretty surprised about the missing IS though! As I read in several reviews and when I checked in my local store it had IS in the lens, but when I bought my piece it wasn't there! I guess there is different kits with minor differences out there :-)
It will not track your subject while recording
which is AF continuous. The 100d does do this
720p is half your resolution. And checkout comparisons Canon 1080p is already the softest footage out there.
The ring at the front of the lens is for manual focus. The problem is that it rotates your front element while focussing.
which means you cannot use this lens with polarizers and certain ND filters. Which means you can't use this lens for proper video at all.
The sound of this lens is indeed too loud. Which again means you should not have bought it in the first place. mirrorless camera's and the 100d have silent lenses. again vital for video.
Focus peaking means you camera shows edges in the EVF or on the lcd screen on what is in focus. It's very hand for pulling focus in video
Just return it. It won't suit your needs at all.
For video get something else. A second hand
Panasonic G6 or something else with the necessary features.

The autofocus on my T5 is whisper quiet.
This Canon Camera is great. If you are new to DSLRs, you should get this package. I understand that there are other higher end models such as the 7D Mark II, 6D, and 5D Mark III, but unless you are a professional photographer, it can be difficult to justify the extra cost just to have the most expensive camera. a small tip, if you don't mind, you should edit your videos and cut unnecessary parts out to save time and make your videos neater and seen professionally made hehe

I'm here for a public opinion. Should I purchase the Canon Rebel T5 OR the Nikon D3200? Both of great quality and equal price, just unsure.
Juan Gutierrez That depends on what you're gonna do with it. I would say Nikon for photos and Canon for recording.
But of course either of them can manage both of the jobs decently :)
Oh ok thanks. Its been about a month since I've bought the Canon and I can agree it's very great with picture quality. Would've loved to tried out the Nikon but I think the Canon is doing just the job.

Indeed it is! It is not the best for videophotography, but as an entry level DSLR and for photos, it is most definitely amazing!

I am going to invest in the 700D, do you reckon that would be a better idea, as this one does not support an external mic and videography is something I will be doing with my DSLR (Had a Camcorder and have decided its time to upgrade!)

No, not at all! It has no continuos autofocus and the kit lens makes an unbearable hell of noise! So don't get this camera for videophotography :/

+SimplyAlana Xo No I would definitely NOT recommend this for TH-cam! It's absolutely not good enough for video, no continuous autofocus, no external mic, noisy lens, low resolution fixed screen etc.
