I may be late but just to add some info: The Magician depicts Mordenkainen, the wizard; The Hierophant depicts Bahamut, the platinum dragon god, with his "Grandmaster of Flowers" form, accompanied by his golden dragons in golden canaries form; The Devil depicts Asmodeus The Tower depicts Tiamat
I read tarot and don't know much about D&D, I also thought pentacles would have been strength and swords are thoughts but a thought doesn't mean intelligence. Heard about the issues with the names not being on this deck. Came here to see how the new version looked. Thanks for the detailed look. Found a first edition for half price I may pick up regardless of the names not being there.
I mean, if you do pick it up, you could always add titles yourself or make it your own by re-ordering it! It works for me for the most part, but yeah, thought they should have been switched around.
I feel like I could have guessed this was coming and should have waited! To be honest though I personally think some of the court cards work better switched and I can do that when I don't have titles lol. Glad to see they've updated it though!
I thank you for breaking thia down as an upcoming DM and Tarot Card reader, your the only one that broke it down this well and straight to the point thank you very much 😢😢😢😢😅😅😅😅😅😊😊😊😊😊😊
I’m just learning Tarot and purchased this deck after finding out about the new printing. I love it though I think the card descriptions are too sparse for a beginner, they work better as a reminder I’d think once you have a better grasp on the card meanings. My 1st deck has art based on the 1650 Marseilles deck. In this deck only the major arcana and court cards have character illustrations, the ace-10 cards only illustrations suit and card number. I followed along in the book from this set as you did the card walk through. I was impressed by how the D&D character art fit with the character art in my 1st deck. Your descriptions were very vivid. I could definitely relate your descriptions of the art and your interpretation to the art and description in my deck. I’m bookmarking this video to refer back as I learn, thanks.
Awww awesome, glad it's helping you out! I do agree that the guidebook it comes with has a lot to be desired, so you're right that you kind of need to know the card meanings already for it to make more sense. Glad this helps, and good luck in your learning! Hope you're enjoying it so far.
Just got a couple decks from Game Crafters, and it's the same sort of (alleged) "linen" deck with rough sides. Curious if you tried lightly sanding edges and if it worked for you? Or if edging helped? I think I may give mine the barest trim and re-corner round them and see if that helps. Digging the artwork of this deck though. It's only $15 at the moment, I may have to spring for them. You already had me springing for those Exile minis this morning, I may as well round out this day with another "Crescent Dreams Tarot made me do it." ;)
@@wyomingwynne LOL hope you enjoy the decks though! And edging this deck I think did help, and I love how it came out. But if it's also on sale that is a great time to buy it 👀
I just came across the original version of this deck and wish I had known that there was a second version with the suits written on the cards before I bought it. Oh well... I am still pretty new to Tarot if I am being honest.... I just couldn't pass up a DND deck.... The artwork in this deck is pretty. I am a huge lover of DND and have been a part of my home-brew campaign for over two years now. It is so much fun. Some of the characters that they picked for the Major Arcana are interesting. I think the Strength Card is definitely an orc... but it also gives me some World of Warcraft (the movie) vibes, what do you think? The Emperor looks spot on to what I would think as well, and it reminds me of Gimli from Lord of the Rings. The art on the Tower card reminds me of Tiamat, the 5 headed dragon.
Oooh hey, great to see a fellow DND fan here! Strength is for sure an orc, and it's awesome, and agree on that Emperor basically being Gimli. And it could very well be Tiamat, which is always cool to see. Thank you for stopping by!
Question for you since you’re both experienced in D&D and Tarot. Have you looked at the Hit Point Press Fablemaker Tarot deck? Was curious if it’s more in par with a traditional Tarot deck or if there’s a deck you’d recommend to bring into a 5e game that’s better quality then these without getting into the Fablemaker Tarot Deck price point. Hardest thing to swallow why I’m leaning towards these D&D ones and then get the PDF of those rules to go with.
To be honest I've only seen a flipthrough once of Fablemaker for the same reason...its price point lol, and also not sure how I feel about the card effect/texture because I'm picky with cardstock. From what I've seen of it, though, it looks more like a RWS clone than something that would go with D&D. If you're thinking of something to tie to D&D, I know there's a kickstarter of a Deck of Many Things right now with artwork by Yoshi Yoshitani. Otherwise the D&D Tarot is just nice because of its artwork tie-in, but the Eldritch Overload Tarot is also supposed to have a more cyberpunk fantasy feel that might also work. I don't own that deck, but I've been eyeing it.
I don't think they would consider it a second edition so much as a second printing to fix the correction. But, you'd know it's a 2nd printing because it will have all the names on them.
@@natilili Ohhh that I'm not sure, but if you live in the US and order online from somewhere like Barnes and Noble, it should come correct. That's how I got mine.
I'm french. I triéd will see. Anyways thx a lot for your d&d expertise in this vidéo. I absolutely love thé depictions. And your explainations will help thx a lot
Not sure if you still need to know, but you can just check the back of the box. The three cards shown will be listed the same as the actual cards. So, the Empress in the center doesn't help, but to her right is the Ace of Charisma. If it just says "Ace" on the bottom then its an original printing but if it says "Ace of Charisma" then its a newer one. Also, my second printing box, as well as the one in this video, have the King of Strength to the Empress' left while the video I watched of the original printing being unboxed showed the Seven of Charisma (labeled as just "7"). I'm not sure if that's consistent though.
While the cards are ppretty, I feel like whoever made the cards really have no idea about tarot cards. So many of the cards feel mismatched. While its ok to no be strict with RWS, this often seems like a confusing mix. Decks that stray from RWS, have a clear narrative and purpose. This does not IMHO.

PS I love this deck - I ask the Querent to think ‘ Whats the Game …..?…..’ and then reading the Card with the Question is fantastic revelation …..

I think it's mostly confusing for the Strength/Charisma situation, because I still think they should have been switched.
@@CrescentDreamsTarot They are many cards that could be switched or are vague.
