Great video. Very informative, thank you. A question. My inlaws have a parrot who I've only met maybe 2 or 3 times, months and months apart, I've never seen him out of the cage, only through the bars for maybe 10 minutes, gave him a treat or two last time I was there. This time, when I went to say hello to him, he immediately started to do a little tap dance and bowed his head, allowed me to stroke to top of his head and then he regurgitate for me. When I said goodbye, he immediately started dancing and regurgitating. He hasn't done this for anyone else before apparently, and he's known to have quite a bite on him, but he didn't with me. Has he bonded to me that quickly? Should I be concerned?
Hey Gemma, To me that sounds like hormonal behaviour. It’s not a huge concern per say but it’s worth managing hormones or it can lead to biting and issues!
Hey there, That would depend on if he's doing it hormonally or not. It's fairly unusual for v.young parrots to regurgitate hormonally but not unheard of. Lovebirds can also do it as a sign of affection. But I'd also be mindful it could be a crop issue.
I am not sure if my teil is regurgitating or vomiting, I went on vacation for a week and gave them to my neighbour and they kept my cocktail on full seed diet and now my male bird is refusing to eat his fav treat even he is not being active as usual and when I toke him out of the cage he kept sitting at a spot and slept, he is also throwing some liquid with some seeds in it. Pls tell me what should I do I am really worried if he is sick or it is normal and if diet was the problem then what should I give him pls recommend something
It might be worth getting an avian vet to look him over as it doesn’t sound normal. It could be all sorts including a crop issue. Apple cider vinegar may help (see Sophie’s video)
Ty so much for this. I just got a new gcc and I was worried he was trying to regurgitate for me when offered food but it makes sense that he's probably crop clearing. He doesn't bring anything up.
My conure is regurgitating whilst opening his up his wings and looking really tired, Im really unsure what it is and I’m worried🙁he’s only 18 weeks and making nasal noises aswell
Do males regurgitate? I don’t know what my bird is and it regurgitated once so I wondered if it indicated it was a female or male. Thank you for another great video!
Ok so I have a cockatiel, no other birds and I have a mirror on my desk and obviously he loves it and twice now I’ve noticed like seed chunks splatted everywhere? I also have a toy on the mirror. The seeds have a speck of red which I’m going to assume is blood in it. Would this be a hormonal thing or? He’s eating and acting fine it’s just this one thing I’ve noticed
It may be worth reducing how much he gets access to the mirror if he is actively regurgitating for it or removing it entirely. It definitely sounds like a hormonal thing. If you notice it again it may be worth an avian vet visit, otherwise you're probably right to just keep an eye on it if he's ok otherwise.
Mine has done it twice today and I'm booking a vet visit just to make sure but I'm worried about my greencheek they are my new buddy and I love my bird
It’s always sensible to make sure they are all good with vet visits, so likely a good call! Having some apple cider vinegar on hand is also useful as it’s good for crop issues (Sophie has a good video on how to use it!)
Thank you so much you've been very helpful on my new parrot parenthood journey. My appointment is tommorow and I dont think its crop problems it may just be regurgitation trying to feed me only does it around my ears for some reason but Echo is still super active and loves flying around the room and riding the ceiling fan blades around. The fan is always off by the way for safety but loves to fly and land on them with speed and ride the momentum lol such a goofy bird
Update too young to be hormonal is what the vet said and it's just trying to bond with me and its perfectly fine we are adjusting diet a little bit but other than that healthy bird
I have a cockatiel and hes about maybe 2 months old and ive had him for two weeks, he started regurgitating seeds I dont know what that means?? I have it on video if you could pls answer it would mean a lot :)
I’d say it could mean a few things none of them too fun for him! Usually it means a crop irritation! It may be worth getting him checked by an avian vet if it keeps happening. Also it’d be worth giving him some apple cider vinegar (birdnerdsophie) has a good video on the topic and how to use it.
Great video. What if a lovebird brings up on his toy? and now he does it to the cage floor in his cage and sometimes for me when he sees me eating. Since his regurgitation behaviour he goes crazy trying to get the food we eat. We’ve given him some meat in the past which he loves but have stopped for about a month. He’s 7 and seems in excellent health otherwise.
I’d definitely avoid the meat as it’s really bad for them! Regarding his behaviour, it could be hormonal or over excited. If he’s healthy generally it shouldn’t be a worry if it’s occasional!
Very interesting Video. That brings me to another question. How do you manage the need of the birds for sunlight -UVA and UVB. Especially in your Country. I live in Austria and our weather is no much better than yours.
Hey there, We are lucky in that the room the birds are in gets lots of natural sunlight, especially with windows open, we also try to supplement through natural diet where possible. We are considering lights too, but are torn due to mixed reviews!
I heard those lights were largely unnecessary and not very effective. A lot of people can have their bird near a window or take them outside for a bit. They don’t need that long of light exposure anyway. I believe less than an hour.
You can get that kind of behaviour towards the same gender from parrots. If it's occasional then it's likely just friendly behaviour, if it's constant then it's likely due to hormones.
I’m sure your video was well and good but your birds were so loud in the background while you were talking. It was hard to hear half the video. Sorry I didn’t hear half of that.
The card in the back is so cute❤❤
Thank you! We love them too!
You rock. Thank you for making this. I’ve been distracting him per your suggestion and it’s been happening les frequently
No problems! Glad it was useful!
Awesome! I was rlly confused about regurgitation so this is rlly helpful!! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Did anyone notice his background? It looks so cool!
It's new lol Going to do a video on it!

They do indeed for multiple reasons!

@@TheParrotTeacher ok, i will try and cover it up when he’s out and see how he does. Thank you
@@exstrella77 no worries! There’s other things you can do hormone wise, I have a video on the topic!

My budgie used to regurgitate to my hand
But now he stopped 😌
That's good! Glad they've stopped!
Yeah my bird does it to me all the time
May be worth reducing/not encouraging if possible!
Ok thanks I will do
