Half Sphere Pinch Pot, POV Pottery #42

  • They seem easy... but to make a pinch pot that has even wall and floor thickness is deceptively tough. Here we do just that, we make a half sphere pinch pot whose wall and floor are 1/8" thin! My three steps to success are: even wall and floor thickness, continual compression, and moisture management. To achieve even wall thickness, one has to choose to shift one's awareness to the tips of their fingers, and to be aware of the distance between the thumb and middle finger.

    Wow! I have been shown how to make pinch pots, and I have watched other TH-cam videos about it, but your video is streets ahead. It answered all my questions I had and lots of things I hadn't even thought to question. So thorough, and detailed. Brilliant! Thank you.

    This video is great, it helped a lot with making my first pinch. I love how the video is in a pov perceptive were the watcher can see how your molding the clay from your point of view.

    I would love to see the final product to see what burnishing when green did to the surface of the bowl.

      I usually just start to add coils when I need to go bigger.

      It is water based clay, not oil based clay.

      You got this! Try again and the next one will be better. My first pinch pots were like Frisbees, wide and flat.
