HHP-8 Wheel-Slip @ Kingston

- This is the last HHP-8, AMTK 655, that I ever saw in service. As you can see, it was for the best. The wheels were slipping, the paint was chipped, the motor was having lots of trouble getting moving, and the bell was totally off kilter. Eventually, this was the final Amtrak HHP-8 to be retired on November 7, 2014. 651 was retired shortly before that.

This must have been one of 655's last runs. Hell, 651 was in better shape when Amtrak retired it a month after this video was taken.
When hhp8 got wheel slip that causing problems

Didn't see any problems there. Too bad there gone, those were my favorites, soon you'll see no variety on the NEC just nothing but Sprinters. It blasted you too with that awesome horn :-). Glad you caught it

Like stuff was when it was basically just the AEM-7? Also while the HHP-8 looked cool, they were maintenance nightmares and cost WAY too much to keep running annually
Amtrak's Intercity HHP-8s were complete failures because of wheel slips, cab signals malfunctioning, and having trouble switching voltages. MARC's Commuter HHP-8s were given a second chance with rebuilds and refurbishment in 2018.

Budder Shark don't say that and one will be restored and it's 690 from willmington, DA and it will have a new speed limit and it will be up to 220mph and also it can travel from 125mph or 140mph to 210mph and it will run again on April of 2020 and it Will be the fastest hhp8 On Amtrak and also it will travel 210mph in kingston, RI and it slows down at the bend at 150mph and at midnight in New Jersey when the acela reached 170mph it goes from 125mph to 210mph and also Iin larchmount, ny it can reach from 89mph to 145mph and soon when I'm in 10th grade in west hill high school I will see the hhp8 690 passing old derian, ct from 75mph to 110mph and it will slow down at the bend at 75mph and people from stratford, ct will see it going going from 80mph to 140mph north and also it will slow down when it goes up the hill at 150mph to 147mph and it's slows down when it passes the station at 140mph to 125mph and when it approaches the bend at 90mph and people from old saybrook, will see it passing it from 130mph to 180mph and it will pass Kingston station at 210mph and Evan mansfield, MA and also it will pass Stamford, ct at 20mph
Why didn’t Amtrak just refurbish their hhp-8s like Marc?

@@Zeffers716 Because you can still get some use out of them with an overhaul. And technically Amtrak didn't retire their HHP-8s, they're just in storage
Amtrak only leased these units and the lease is up the same time the Acelas are up, 2022.

Wait, what if HHP-8 #655 would made it's final run on November of 2014 then on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day from 2014-2015, HHP-8 #655 & 651 would run 170MPH not Princeton junction & hailmilton, NJ from Boston to Elizabeth and return
